MADELEINE McCann's parents are "not getting their hopes up" over cops closing in on a new prime suspect following a breakthrough.

Portuguese police are probing a “new clue and suspect” after talks with British officers, according to a bombshell local media report.

Her parents Kate and Gerry are said to be “very grateful” that British cops are remaining so “focused and committed” in their painstaking bid to find out Madeleine’s fate.

But a family pal said: "They have had their hopes raised then dashed many times in the past so they are not getting buoyed up by any fresh developments. It’s too devastating when nothing comes of it.

"The Met Police are keeping them informed every step of the way and when there’s something significant happening they’ll be the first to know.

"But they can’t discuss in public what may or may not be going on while the investigation is still underway. Officers have told them not to say anything."
POTENTIAL PRIME SUSPECT

Correio da Manha newspaper claimed local detectives are now "nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine”.

The breakthrough comes after a tip-off over a mystery "foreign" man who was in the Algarve at the time of Madeleine's disappearance in 2007.

Detectives from Scotland Yard recently met Policia Judiciaria (PJ) officers in Porto to share key information on the investigation.

But the face-to-face meeting between British and Portuguese police is believed to be the first since the new suspect came to light.

It could be the biggest leap forward in the £12million investigation since the youngster vanished from her holiday flat at Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007.
'THEY'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE'

The McCann source told The Sun Online: “Over the years there have been numerous reported sightings of Madeleine in different countries and alleged significant developments in the police inquiry. But Kate and Gerry can’t get their hopes up every time, they’ve been here before.

“They keep level headed while the police get on with the task in hand."

Madeleine, then aged 3, is believed to have been snatched from her bed while her parents Kate and Gerry had dinner with friends just yards away.

The local probe into her suspected kidnapping was axed in 2008 and Scotland Yard launched Operation Grange in 2011.
EXTRA FUNDING FOR COPS

Scotland Yard said their investigation is "ongoing".

Earlier this month, the Home Office pledged £300,000 in extra funding for the Met Police investigation.

Despite a 12-year search for the missing girl, no trace of Madeleine – who would now be 16 – has been found.

In May, Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry laid gifts in her untouched bedroom to mark her 16th birthday.

They also hosted a party to honour the missing youngster at their home in Rothley, Leics.

The McCanns wrote on the Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page: “Happy 16th Birthday, Madeleine!

“We love you and we’re waiting for you and we’re never going to give up.”

Madeleine, then aged 3, is believed to have been snatched from her bed . . .

I thought it has always been settled McCann / Mitchell / News Corp / Sun policy to state that she WAS snatched . . .
Why the change ?
Are the media beginning to plant the seeds so that they can quote articles and say "we were never really taken in . . ."
Gamble is doing the same, using the phrase 'believed abducted'.

Has it taken them 12 years to realise that there is still, still, no evidence of entry, of presence, or of exit.
The PJ saw that by about 0930, 5/5/7.  BritPol about half an hour after arriving two days later.
There was, and is, NO EVIDENCE to support the proposition that a Crime of Abduction was committed

In English law - and in most other modern Western jurisdictions - the Prosecution has to prove 2 things
1.  That a crime has been committed
2.  That the accused committed it

In that order !

Didn't think it would be long before Tom Towers jumped to attention ..

Madeleine McCann's parents 'keeping level headed' as cops 'close in on prime suspect'

MADELEINE McCann’s parents are keeping “level headed” as police reportedly close in on a prime suspect in the investigation.

By Tom Towers / Published 24th June 2019

Cops are supposedly probing a “foreign” man seen in the Algarve around the time of her disappearance in 2007.

Scotland Yard officers have since met with Policia Judiciaria detectives in Porto, Portugal, and are “nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine”, local media reported last week.

But the missing tot’s parents Kate, 51, and Gerry, also 51, aren’t getting their hopes up.

A family friend told The Sun Online: "They have had their hopes raised then dashed many times in the past so they are not getting buoyed up by any fresh developments. It’s too devastating when nothing comes of it.

"The Met Police are keeping them informed every step of the way and when there’s something significant happening they’ll be the first to know.

"But they can’t discuss in public what may or may not be going on while the investigation is still under way. Officers have told them not to say anything."

They added: “Over the years there have been numerous reported sightings of Madeleine in different countries and alleged significant developments in the police inquiry.

“But Kate and Gerry can’t get their hopes up every time, they’ve been here before. They keep level headed while the police get on with the task in hand."

Earlier this month, the investigation was granted another £300,000 in funding.

The probe has already cost the taxpayer £11.75m since Maddie’s disappearance in 2007, according to Home Office accounts.

Operation Orange is now set to continue until at least March 31, 2020, after the announcement.

The McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry have expressed their gratitude to the police for all the work they have done and continue to do in the search for their daughter.

"They are greatly encouraged that the Met still believe there is active work left to be done, that they are focused and committed, and they remain incredibly grateful to the Home Office for providing an extra budget for the investigation.

"It shows that officers are still doing everything they can to get a resolution after all this time. And it gives them hope that one day they may finally find out what happened to Madeleine."

Daily Star Online has approached Mr Mitchell for further comment.

An other "interesting' point about this latest non-story is that several papers say they are quoting from
Correio de Manhã, the Portuguese Tabloid

But they aren't.
As Natasha has pointed out, there has been NO RECENT ARTICLE IN Correio de Manhã.

https://www.portugalresident.com/2019/06/24/maddie-investigation-police-closer-than-ever-before/

Media buzz over the weekend centres on Portuguese police being “closer than ever before” to solving the mystery of what really happened to Madeleine McCann.
Quoting Correio da Manhã (which hasn’t actually a recent story), British tabloids say talks have gone ahead with British officers “on the new prime suspect”, which appears to be a “foreign man in the Algarve at the time of the youngster’s disappearance” over 12 years ago.
Says the Mirror, cops working on Operation Grange – the Scotland Yard investigation that has to date spent over €12 million looking for Madeleine – have travelled to Porto recently “to discuss the investigation”.
But it’s all “very secret”.
“Only the police know who the suspect is”, explains the Mirror – and “it is not clear if the suspect’s current whereabouts are known”. The story has been duly picked up by media sources throughout Europe.

So YET AGAIN we have British Tabloids inventing stories, and blaming it on someone else.
(A bit like the Sun and the Olive Press, locked in a permanent mendacious loop, from which neither seems able to escape.)

WalesOnline wrote:Police will look at a “new clue and suspect” and claimed they “admit to being nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine”, says the Correio da Manha newspaper.

So sayeth Martin Fricker for WalesOnline (he do get aboot).

Recent reporting?  "... says the Correio da Manha newspaper" but when did they say that - ten years ago?  Or was it quoted in the Netflix soap?

The tabloids, here there and everywhere else, regurgitate stories like a Kat with fur balls.

Come clean, there ain't no new clue/s nor suspect/s. Stop wasting our time.
