A TOP Brit detective has lashed out at trolls for attacking Madeleine McCann's parents Kate and Gerry and creating a "vile cesspit" of allegations.

Jim Gamble was the UK’s top child protection police officer in the UK and heavily involved in the initial search for Maddie. 

The experienced cop spent years examining the case and analysing evidence – and has now called for the police to step in over Kate and Gerry's abuse. 

The tragic tot disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on the evening of May 3, 2007.

British and Portuguese police afterwards launched an enormous operation, but the desperate hunt continues 12 years on. 

Since then, sick trolls have made allegations about Kate and Gerry – despite their being no evidence to support their claims. 

The family have been relentlessly abused on social media, with keyboard sickos posting cruel jokes and baseless theories on Facebook and Twitter.

Mr Gamble helped Gerry draft a statement during the initial investigation.

He told Daily Star Online: “The trolls take the view that Kate and Gerry can ignore Twitter and not go online, but that is in essence harassing someone from a public place where they have every right to be.

“The hypocrisy of the trolls that really gets me is: they hide behind anonymous names, they rant at the parents, and they do so claiming to be child protection advocates – to be only interested in doing what’s best for Madeleine and children.

“Yet they’re failing to grasp the irony that Sean and Amelie (Madeleine’s siblings) will now be at an age when they’ll be occupying online spaces.

“And every time they search their names or search anything about their sister, they’re going to come across this cesspit of vile comments that these self-proclaimed child protection advocates – who are in essence trolls – have left there for them.

“I remain disappointed at the police’s failure to hold those who are clearly committing offences of criminal harassment online responsible.” 

Sean and Amelie are Maddie’s twin siblings, and were born in February 2005, meaning they are now aged 14, so highly likely to be aware of social media.

They were two years old at the time of their sister’s disappearance on May 3, 2007, and are thought to have been asleep during her disappearance. 

Cops are still trying to trace 13 suspects seen acting suspiciously in and around the resort before Madeleine’s disappearance. 

Despite high profile police appeals and the release of a series of sketches and e-fits in the 12 years since, no trace of Maddie has been found. 

One suspect is feared to have carried out up to 28 sex attacks on other children within a 40-mile radius of the apartment from which then-three-year-old Madeleine went missing. 

Wearing a surgical mask, he apparently got into bed with a seven-year-old British girl but fled when she woke up and asked: “Is that you daddy?’’

Another was chased from a holiday apartment after a horrified mum caught him standing over her young daughter.

A Risky Gamble

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) was formed in April 2006, and was absorbed into the NCA on 7 October 2013 by the UK Crime and Courts Act 2013.  The predecessor to CEOP was the Paedophile Online Exploitation Team.

Until March 2010, this was headed by Jim Gamble - he who called for a "panic button" for the public to report suspected paedophiles, to be installed on the main profile page of every Facebook user,  thereby planting the suggestion that every single Facebook user is also, potentially, a paedophile.  And of course inviting millions of aggrieved teens, or even older, to treat them as flippers on a pinball machine.

The common word in both CEOP and it's predecessor is, of course, "online".

Mr Gamble, now so-called "self employed", keeps himself very busy online, particularly on Twitter.  Here is a small selection of his microblogs.


Mr Gamble has also been involved, with the McCann case, right from the start.  Even though there is zero suggestion that Madeleine has been involved in any nefarious online activity; and zero evidence that she has been abducted by paedophiles.

Yet Mr Gamble has thrown his entire person into the fray.  He has blocked every single person on Twitter who has even remotely questioned the McCanns' version of events, including many who have never even interacted with him.  He has publicly stated that persons with a contrary opinion should not be allowed to give broadcasts on the radio.  He very visibly applauded Sky's Martin Brunt for doorstepping one dissenter, on the very day that that lady's probable suicide was announced.  He is now actively attempting to prevent independent journalists from writing, or broadcasting, about the case.

One has to wonder why Mr Gamble is so passionate and involved over this one particular case, when there is absolutely no reason for himself or his former agency to become involved at all.

We must also ask how Dr Gerry McCann came into possession of several hard-backed CEOP internal manuals, as early as 2007; Mr Gamble tells us that "they can be downloaded by anyone from the Internet".  He seems unwilling, however, to provide any links, or explain how a digital download can suddenly transform itself into a hard-backed book.

Or how a former senior policeman has apparently, suddenly transformed into one of the "haters" and "trolls" that he claims to despise so much.

To CMMoM, Members, it's been a few years since Big Jim Gamble,Gerry, Martin Brunt and sir Bernard Hogan Howe call to rescue the McCann family from Trolls? 

These Four "Amigo's"came out once again in support of Madeleine's parents, Not Madeleine McCann?

With the help of Sky News Corporation, Martin Brunt uncovered the "Sweepyface, Account", then hounded Mrs Brenda Leyland, didn't Mrs Leyland have the EHRC, Article 6/8 Mr Howe, like Mr Richards?

Just what "Powers" do the mysterious "Couple" have to influence all these special people to support them,Not their lost daughter Madeleine, Twelve years ago!

Since when do cops help the suspects with their statements?

Sounds to me that they fear what the twins may find on the internet.  It won't be long before the they are able to carry out their own research/investigation and may just spill the beans.   Is this why the McCanns wanted to secure 250,000 euros each for them, courtesy of Goncalo Amaral?

 13 people acting suspiciously in one resort? Give it a rest Jim.

If one person was acting suspiciously there would probably be a crime committed and reported.  Are you saying that all these people behaved suspiciously but no crimes were reported?  

Furthermore, if as you say, Madeleine had wandered off at night, why would someone need to be acting suspiciously beforehand?

 

Whilst we are talking about people acting suspiciously though, did you hear about the man who was seen entering a child brothel in Cambodia?  When he was spotted he claimed that he was there to make a film.  We have never seen that film, i wonder why that is.  Anyway, who in their right mind would make a film advertising a child brothel?  I reckon that man was acting very suspiciously, don't you Jim?

If the twins can now access "Social Media" they can presumedly access the PJ files and read the evidence for themselves.
They can then ask their father why he lied about the door in the first statement he made, their mother why she lied about the curtains, and all sort of other things 14 year olds are capable of understanding.

If nothing else, Gamble, with the help of Towers, has successfully re-introduced the twins into the foray, something most of us prefer to avoid for the sake of their privacy.  Personally, I believe they are old enough to think for themselves if/when they research the case - certainly old enough to be asking questions.

Having said that, the buzz word aside, a lot of what's written on twitter and facebook etc. is diabolical.  You can't deny that simple fact - it does the cause no favours and most certainly doesn't respect the name Madeleine McCann.  They play right into the hands of Messrs McCann.

Perhaps that's what it's all about?  Are they there for that reason alone?

ETA:  Not the first time I've seen reference to Jim Gamble being heavily involved in the 'search' slash 'campaign' slash 'investigation'.  I know he was shipped over to Portugal to befriend the McCanns and later asked to prepare a 'confidential' report, as reported by the press. 

Remind me - what else has he done?

Who was it who made an undercover taped conversation with a "Former Prime Minister, Cameron, Leveson 2 No longer needed Mathew Hancock, Conservative Government, Operation Grange, Theresa May Rebekah Brooks?

How do they Read or Hear about this "Hate Mail,Trolls", oh they pay "Family members" out of the "Find Madeleine Fund", Portugal Hearings, Supreme Court ruling?

They still pay for the "Loyal" lap dog service provided by Clarence(discredit them) Mitchell?

He gets caught in a child brothel in Cambodia, he was in a position to do something about it, instead, according to him, he was making a film. The parents of Madeline McCann have been inundated with hate mail after extra funding was given to the effort to find their daughter.

Last week it was revealed the Home Office had approved £300,000 for Scotland Yard to fund the investigation into the missing girl for another year.

The extra funding brings the total spent on the search for Maddi to £11.75m, with parents Kate and Gerry refusing to give up hope.

As the campaign to find her after she went missing in Praia da Luz, Portgual in May 2007 continued, an official website was set up to help find Maddie and monitor the taunts of trolls.

While its digital coordinator usually ignores the barbs, the close friend of the McCanns fired back this week.

She posted: "Ha ha, so funny to play games on a missing child’s page. You play these despicable games, you will be banned.

"I know we should ignore and we usually do. This is but a small sample of what we have to deal with from people on hate pages conspiring to disrupt our page.

"Please do not send these hateful people private messages. We are all better than these despicable people.

"Apparently, they can harass and torment an innocent family, but are crying because people are calling them out on their awful behaviour."

After a Portuguese inquiry into Maddie's disappearance foundered, Scotland Yard opened its own investigation, Operation Grange, in 2013.

The extra funding means Operation Grange will continue at least until March 31, 2020.

The couple’s spokesperson Clarence Mitchell told The Sun: “Kate and Gerry have expressed their gratitude to the police for all the work they have done and continue to do in the search for their daughter.

"They are greatly encouraged that the Metropolitan Police still believe there is active work left to be done and they remain incredibly grateful to the Home Office for providing an extra budget for the investigation.

"It shows that officers are still doing everything they can to get a resolution after all this time. And it gives them hope that one day they may finally find out what happened to Madeleine."

One of the country’s top experts in child exploitation has hit out at comments made by Michelle Dewberry over funding for the Madeleine McCann case.
Former detective Jim Gamble is recognised as putting child abuse to the forefront of the British police agenda.
He is the former chief executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) and served as the senior child protection officer in the UK's first investigation into Maddie's disappearance.
He came to wider public prominence through his forthright interviews in the Netflix documentary about the youngster, titled The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
On Twitter, he reacted with anger after Hull businesswoman Miss Dewberry questioned whether the money would have been spent on a child from Hull who had gone missing while their parents "went to the local boozer".

But Mr Gamble said: “What a load of unadulterated nonsense. The original Home Secretary that set this off was from Hull.
“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing & an opinion on the back of absolutely no experience worse.”
In 2007 the then-three-year-old disappeared from a Portugese holiday apartment where her parents where staying. More than £11m has since been spent on the Met Police investigation to find her - although it has uncovered no answers.

Speaking on Sky News debate show The Pledge last week, panelists argued whether the continued stream of Home Office funding was "according to class" - something former The Apprentice winner and election candidate Miss Deberry agreed with.
She said: "If this was a family from Hull who had gone to a caravan park down the road and left their kids in the caravan, while they'd gone to the local boozer.
"This wouldn't be getting millions of pounds worth of attention and funding, and all the rest of it."

Following up on social media after the show, Ms Dewberry reiterated her position, saying "there wouldn’t haven’t been a fraction of the money spent on the search".
Operation Grange, the Met Police investigation into Madeleine's disappearance, was set up in 2013 by David Cameron after the Portugese inquiry failed to produce substantial answers.

The force have had to apply for Home Office funding on a regular basis to keep the British investigation afloat and have once again been successful in their attempts to secure further funds with a government commitment to continue the search until March 2020.
The McCann family has pledged to never give up hope of finding their daughter, who disappeared from the apartment they were staying in as they dined out at a nearby restaurant.

However, the decision to continue to pour hundreds of thousands of pounds into the investigation again has stirred up controversy.
Mr Gamble further explained his position on Twitter.

He said: “They would not get more money unless there are credible lines of enquiry to be followed. And this is a very rare type of investigation.
“This case however is rare because it involves a child who went missing abroad, suspected abducted in a foreign country. The only other similar case I know is Ben Needham.”
After starting his career as an ordinary policeman, Mr Gamble became known for being an expert in child crime and online risks.

He was awarded the Queen's Police Medal in the 2008 New Year Honours list.

That's all very well but as I said, some of the comments on social media - in particular twitter and facebook, are really beyond the pale. Totally unacceptable.

It plays right into the hands of the McCanns and contributes nothing towards justice for Madeleine McCann nor respects her memory.

I find it disheartening that folk can be so vicious. Debate the case by all means, there's no shortage of material but to make disgusting threatening comments about the parents doesn't bode good.

Consider if nothing else, they have two remaining children and family that don't deserve this abominable online behaviour.

As an aside, it would be extremely helpful if some bright spark could come up with a definitive definition of the word troll. As it stands, it appears to apply to anyone with a difference of opinion.

You are right, "troll" is a go-to word to describe someone who says something you don't like and don't want to discuss.

Same as "...phobe" and "...denier".

It's the weaponising of words.

As he did here, but he went quiet when I asked him a follow up question.

I've also asked him why CEOP became involved from the very beginning but has he refused to answer and it's a bit pathetic because I know and we all knows he has the answer to that simple question.
