Respected officer slams Portuguese police for not staging Madeleine McCann reconstruction
A respected police officer said that Portuguese authorities should have carried out a reconstruction of the night she went missing.
Colin Sutton, who worked as a detective at Scotland Yard, said Portuguese police should have followed through with a plan to have Gerry and Kate McCann retrace their steps on the night Madeleine went missing.
The parents had been out with friends, who became known as the Tapas Seven, in Praia da Luz, Portugal, when Madeleine went missing on May 3, 2007.

Speaking on a 9News podcast, Mr Sutton said: ‘The accounts and timings and various statements that were taken immediately after Madeleine was reported missing, and the statements that have subsequently been taken, there is a degree of variation between what individuals say and also what the whole group says
‘I think this is the sort of [police] work that really needs to be done and should have been done.

‘If [a reconstruction] were done then we would have a much clearer, more solid picture of the timeline of what went on.
‘It would be easier to make a judgement about when an abduction could have taken place, and possibly even how it could have taken place.’

The reconstruction didn’t take place as the McCann parents were not considered suspects in Madeleine’s disappearance by August 2008.

Another terrible headline for us all as a result of the efforts of Mark Saunokonoko.Jill Havern wrote:Respected officer slams Portuguese police for not staging Madeleine McCann reconstruction

Bad press for the Portuguese press from the mouth of Colin Sutton.
Not for the first time, as we will all remember here how Sonia Poulton packed into her short documentary ELEVEN separate negative comments about the work of Goncalo Amaral and the Portuguese Police.
Did Mark Saunokononko include in his podcast all the details of how the McCanns and the Tapas 7 all refused to take part in a reconstruction?
Did Colin Sutton mention this to Mark Saunokonono?
Did Mark Saunokonoko even put this point to him?
We don't know how many people will actually be taking the trouble to listen to Saunokonoko's podcasts.
But what we DO know is that 9.EWS and the Press Association have given us two days of bad news, including:
1. Putting all the focus on Smithman, just as Operation Grange and the McCanns would love us to do
2. Telling the world that Dr Julian Totman is Cecheman i.e. Tannerman, and now
3. Lambasting Goncalo Amaral of all people for not holding a reconstruction.
It is just bad, bad, bad headlines for us

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Firstly, neither Mark nor Sonia can be held responsible for whatever slant the media puts on the articles it publishes. Similarly, Dr. Amaral can not be blamed for the repeated, untrue media reports that HE is suing the McCanns. Paper doesn't refuse ink which is why reports in the gutter press should never be cited or offered as "evidence "of anything!
As for putting the focus on Smithman
"as the McCanns would love us to do"
where on earth did you get that idea!!! The McCanns so "wanted" to put the focus on Smithman that they failed to contact Martin Smith as soon as they heard he had seen a man carrying off what could have been their daughter. While they gadded off about the world Martin Smith must have been sat wondering why on earth they had failed to visit him or request that he returned to P.da L. to visit them to discuss what the Smiths had seen and see if it could assist the investigation.
Not only did the McCanns avoid meeting the Smiths face to face but, despite having tonnes of close Irish relatives who lived less than 2 hours away from Drogheda, the Mccanns spectacularly failed to ask these relatives to seek a meeting with the Smiths to explore their sighting and any leads it might give.
All the evidence shows the McCanns desperately trying to IGNORE the Smith sighting for as long as they could until they were forced to acknowledge it to avoid further casting suspicion on themselves.!
Incidentally, no one in their right mind would infer that Sonia Poulton was "Lambasting" Dr. Amaral. Her piece was entitled The McCanns and the media and she was clearly showing how the MCCANNS used the media to try to discredit him.

That's not what you said when defending the press reports relative to Martin Smith back in the emerald isles, nor what you said when defending the Irish journalist who claimed to have interviewed Martin Smith.
Double standards springs to mind.

Verdi, Your memory must be failing you old girl! I am blue in the face from cautioning against believing any quotes attributed to the Smiths by MSM. (something I have regularly taken Tony B to task for) As I have pointed out REPEATEDLY, the Smiths had given no interviews when they were supposedly "quoted" by the tabloid gutter-press. I do not doubt however, that they did speak to Gemma O Doherty for "Village last year. Nor do I think Gemma O'D is part of the dastardly "conspiracy".Verdi wrote:Phoebe wrote:Firstly, neither Mark nor Sonia can be held responsible for whatever slant the media puts on the articles it publishes. Re: The Theory that Smithman = Gerry McCann – CAREFULLY EXPLAINED
by Phoebe on 01.10.18 11:35@ Tony Bennett. You state above -
"However, since the Smiths' credibility is in doubt, can we trust anything he says? After all, he was quoted back in January 2008 as saying that "I've met Robert Murat several times and known him for years".
The "quote" you proffer came from a newspaper. That's how trustworthy it is!!
Just one example. there are many more but it's late

Aha! In those few words you have revealed so much - things I have suspected for a very very long time. My advice to you ... a still tongue makes a wise head .
Meanwhile, CMoMM has work to do.

Re: Respected officer (Colin Sutton) slams Portuguese police for not staging Madeleine McCann reconstruction
"Village" is not an MSM publication, in fact what it has built its reputation on is exposing cover ups and corruption. If Gemma O Doherty and "Village" had lied about speaking with Martin Smith it would be common knowledge by now. He sent solicitors letters to six MSM newspapers who had claimed to be "quoting" him back in the day. Therefore, it follows that he would certainly be seeking a retraction from "Village" if it had lied about speaking with him or what he said.
I sincerely hope your advice about "a wise tongue" is not an attempt at censorship or silencing. You have recently said re. posts critical of Mark Saunokonoko that "constructive criticism is a good thing". Surely that can not apply solely to comments about Mark's podcasts.
