Goncalo Amaral
Can someone please tell me, if Goncalo Amaral, is appealing against the conviction for falsifying evidence, to help cover up for 3 of his officers who were accused of torture? The 3 officers were later cleared, but I haven't heard anything about Dr Amaral, appealing against his conviction.

Goncalo Amaral and the Lisbon Appeals Court Ruling
Hi, I didn't make myself clear when I asked about Dr Amaral's conviction. The case was regarding the disappearance of Joana Cipriano. I thought that once Dr Amaral's men were cleared of torture, he would have had his conviction quashed.
Also there is a translation on the Joana Morais board, of the Lisbon Appeals court Ruling.

Being discussed on the" book ban overturned thread" kathy
As for the conviction I think there is still an appeal to be heard. I may be wrong though

Re: Goncalo Amaral
Hi Candyfloss and thanks for your information, I have also asked Joana (Morais) the same question on her forum. I am fed up of people on another message board calling Goncalo Amaral a convicted criminal who botched up the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance. Whilst making out that the only mistake the McCanns made, was leaving their children alone, when they went out to dine.

I have just had a reply from Joana (Morais). She has told me that Dr Amaral (and others) did file an appeal against the Faro Court's decision, in what is known as the Leonor Cipriano "torture trial" Joana also says that as far as she knows, the outcome of the appeal is still pending.

thanks kathy,
I was searching and found this from The Madeleine Foundation letter 28/9/10 to Portuguese Embassy
[snipped]
5) We are informed that Snr Amaral appealed against his conviction immediately after he was found guilty. It is now over 16 months and yet his appeal has not yet been heard. One reason given for this long delay was that the four members of the jury had not been paid, and we understand that an appeal agaisnt conviction may not be heard until the jury is paid. A highly respected judge once said: ‘Justice delayed is justice denied’. A delay of over a year in hearing an appeal is unjust. In most countries, an appeal against conviction is heard within a matter of weeks, or a few months at most. We suggest that a public enquiry in Portugal should investigate the reason for this serious delay. We also appeal to you to make representations to the judicial authorities in Portugal to hear Mr Amaral’s appeal without further delay.

Re: Goncalo Amaral
Hi Candyfloss, once again thank your for your information. I've just looked in my saved emails and found the letter you're talking about. The letter was in an attachment, in an email from the Madeleine Foundation. In the same email there is also a letter to the Prime Minister. I have been having problems opening emails from my AOL and TalkTalk accounts and when I could open the emails, I couldn't open any attachments.
Whatever was wrong, seems to have righted itself now.

Re: Goncalo Amaral
my two cents worth.
Actually Amaral's appeal against that conviction (an administration offence) has absolutely nothing to do with mccanns case, and in no way can be compared to the horrendous crime mccanns were suspected of having committed.
Far as I know it's only the sickos pros (and I suspect team mccanns) who used that as an excuse to smear Amaral's reputation as if he's handling of another case is a reflection of his standards. How pathetic is that?
How can that be compared to people who got rid of their daughter - even the dogs know so.
If his team had used force or coercion (sp) on mccanns they would be in jail now and not home and dry......so I dont know why the pros thought it smart to compare that. There was nothing smart in that - in fact it was a no brainer - what came across was their vindictiveness.
Are they trying to imply Amaral falsified documents where the mccanns were concerned?
Hello it was cadaver and their dodgy behaviour which gave their game away?
