With today's Oakley revelations, had a quick look at Surrey Coroners listings for Halligen (Richard Powell).
Nothing listed of course up to 18th April, but I did notice at the top
'Additional cases may be heard at short or no notice'
so they could easily try and slip it through on the quiet.

Today is 19 months to the day since Richard Powell, better known as Kevin Halligen, was found dead in a pool of blood at his Surrey home.
His friend Adrian Gattan, who made the film 'The McCanns and the Conman', portraying Halligen as a fraudster who 'duped' the McCanns, quickly told the media that he probably died from a drunken fall against a table leg or other sharp object.
There is a reasonable suspicion that he was murdered. Surrey Police are investigating and the Surrey Coroner is due to hold a full Inquest.
Any news of a date for his Inquest yet?

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

I received a response from the Surrey Coroner's office today, following a further chaser, advising she should have an update in the next four weeks.

For Paulo Sargento, the thesis that Gonçalo Amaral revealed at first hand to "SP" that the blanket could have been used in a funeral ceremony at the Luz chapel "is very interesting".
And he adds: "In reality, when the McCanns went to Oprah's Show, the blanket was mentioned. At a given moment, when Oprah tells Kate that she heard her mention a blanket several times, Kate argued that a mother who misses a child always wants to know if she is comfortable, if she is warm, and added, referring to Maddie, that sometimes she asked herself if the person who had taken her would cover her up with her little blanket (but the blanket was on the bed after Maddie, supposedly, disappeared!!!).

Chased by e-mail yesterday, but no response yet. 'Upcoming coroner hearings' list updated today, but still no sign. I will let you know when I hear back.

Received this today after chasing again:
A file has now been prepared for the Coroner to review so hopefully there will be an update in the next 2-3 weeks.
Don't forget he died on 8th January 2018, so it's coming up to two years. Clearly not a straightforward case.

Just to update, although no positive news.
Last heard from Coroner's Office in early December promising they will e-mail me as soon as there is any news.
I do keep an eye on their diary updates as well, just for luck, and again nothing as yet.

On the Surrey Coroners 'Upcoming hearings' page they've given Halligen/Powell a date of 30th March at 10.40am.
The place of death 'Normandy' looked odd but is part of the address originally reported in the press.
It is a 'D' hearing, which is 'documentary' and has been given a 50 minutes slot.
The coroner, R Travers, has been allocated a 10.00 & a 10.20 (both documentary) before this and then an 11.30 after it.

The documentary hearing was due to take place this morning and I am awaiting confirmation from the Court that this did in fact take place.
The Coroner decreed that I could not attend as under the present restrictions it could not be classed as essential travel and would not entertain a video link.
The Coroner's findings and conclusions can be made available at the end of the hearing and I am waiting to hear where and when these will be published.

With the help of @ Doug D I have been in touch with the Coroner's Officers by email on and off for the past few months and this morning I spoke to a Mr Dave Cole, who said he would telephone with the result later today.
His colleague John Aberdeen 'phoned me a few minutes ago and told me the verdict was:
'ACCIDENT'.
Yes, just that one word.
The only other thing I heard from him was that a "Mrs Powell" was present at the Inquest.
That is all I know, maybe further written details will be published later.
A decision reached, effectively, in secret.

The Inquest has been heard and concluded. The Coroner gave the following findings and conclusion
Accidental Death
Mr Powell suffered a fall at his home on 8th January 2018 and an ambulance was called. Despite attempts to save his life Mr Powell died at 05:26 hours that same day whilst still at his home address. Police attended and found no suspicious circumstances and the post mortem examination did not reveal injuries consistent with an assault or third part involvement.
Another seemingly dubious verdict to add to the growing list.
If it was so straightforward why has it taken the police and coroner over two years to come up with this?

I think there are a number of possible explanations for this.
I consider that amongst the three most likely are:
1. The nearest relative - presumably 'Mrs Powell', or another - objected to the 'accident' scenario and demanded a second past-morterm and second opinions etc. which had to be resolved
2. There was a second post-mortem called for by the Coroner which differed in material respects from the first post-mortem and these differences needed to be resolved
3. He was murdered and this was a high-level cover-up.
The timing of this Inquest nearly two years and three months after his death and immediately after the coronavirus lockdown began IMO makes Option 3 very possible.

If you take a look at the current Surrey Coroner's list of upcoming hearings, there are several deaths that occurred over two years ago, including one in Decenber 2017. So, not unusual.

WHOOSH and the three hundred grand disappeared.
Was there ever a formal complaint to the cops? was there any snivelling to R Trace with a report appearing about how appalled they were? I may have missed it. If so would some kind poster share a link.
