Saving our skins Empty Saving our skins

Post by Honeyblade 05.07.15 12:26

Hi been a lurker for a while but never posted as I'm not certain I can be completely unbiased when it comes to this subject.
I wanted to just purport a possibility based on experience of what might have been behind the confused/delusional Tapas 7 explanationans.
I worked as a nurse in a private hospice on the High dependency floor,we had 28 rooms,4 staff and a floor supervisor who usually was any where but near a patient.
The manager of said hospice was a narcissist and ruthless we were told at every turn that we were to blame for everything that could ,would and did go wrong and so on.
So picture if you will 28 very ill people and four staff .. Oh but 2 are on break or one didn't turn up or its night and ratio is 2::28 patients and then add in the lazy one or incompetent one the one who is always making visitors a cup of tea and I'm guessing you see where I'm going with this scenario ... The unthinkable happens patient falls out of bed or visitors arrive to find loved one not clean, someone falls and breaks bones because the nurse turned back to deal with something else .
This happened to me ,arrived at 8am patient under my care has an injury ,reported to supervising nurse , written up in notes and all procedure followed ,injury became worse throughout day and sent to hospital my shift ends.
Next day 8am there is a full scale social services investigation and we are in deep u know what ... The thing is in 12 hours we became me .... My written up notes deleted from file ... Supervisor denies my report of 8am making it later thus excusing night staff and putting injury on to me I went through hell every one so desperate to keep their job, reputation etc telling different stories .. Interview after interview ,whispers etc add into mix being a different nationality and bingo I have a breakdown ... 30yrs a nurse with unblemished record whooshed as you say...
Now looking back 3 years I realise just like Tapas 7 anyone outside looking in probably would see the inconsistencies (lies) people were telling to deflect blame from themselves and protect hospices name /reputation. Patients in beds make money with some paying £1800 a week ,so at the initial stage from manager downwards integrity of hospice ,owners etc had to be protected whatever the price , nurses lied because of their dependence on the hospice for unlimited overtime as many were working there to support family back home .
My point ?self preservation makes people act differently lie , fudge , introduce fitting theories that become truths ,finger point and it ends in someone like me)taking blame for something they 'knew ' I hadn't done causing my subsequent total emotional and physical breakdown thus reassuring them that they were right along and Otherwise why would I become so I'll?
I think, you can pelt me with rotten tomatoes if you've covered this ground before, is what Tapas7 did they all had to make up a story to protect their reputations, child care choices and each other etc and had there not been such huge interest it would have worked but thankfully Tony's and your dissection of evidence found them out.I hope maddie gets the justice she deserves and these despicable people get their justice.
Mods feel free to delete if you think I'm off my trolley or its irrelevant.

Welcome!

You are very welcome here. I have read your post with greatest interest. I really feel for you.

Your analysis is probably the right one.

It makes one wonder. If there is really a culture of covering-up and subterfuge like you report, in fact the behavior of the Tapas is very true to form, a sort of reflex, which in itself is a red flag:

Because they are accustomed to having to cover their backbones, their prime reaction to a crisis of this magnitude (child missing presumed dead, or dead presumed missing) is more likely to (help) cover up to get themselves and their mates off the hook, than to volunteer opening up to the authorities, in casu the police.

Scary thought, this

Hi and thanks for welcome ...
Yes I believe it's a reflex action and a red flag because I told the truth and it highlighted the appalling care level and number of staff .. In my case it had to be away from 2:28 staff ratio at night and also then my 3 colleagues on that shift had to deflect from themselves for a number of reasons ..
I think it's a tacit understanding in all HC settings and their overseers the CQC & SS it goes on but don't get caught and never speak about it openly then the patients will never know.
The two night staff knew what happened and we could have been shut down and they could have been struck off ,even prosecuted for neglect or assault .
Just like the Tapas 7 who know but whose world depends on keeping K&GM free at all costs ..

Hi Honeyblade, thanks for your post and I hope you are on the road to recovery with regards to the work place incident.
There really are some nasty people who made "Management Material" and their first input must be how to cover your own *rse as you have found out!
The Tapas 7/9 will forever be remembered as desperate inactions with the way they behaved on that night and they will have to learn to live with what they did or did not do on 3 May 2007 to try to find Madeleine McCann!?
The people who have read their statements from the PJ files cannot believe the incredulity of these persons and they are "Doctors who are supposed to have ethics", the only ethics they shown at that time was to save their own skins, thank goodness the PJ released the files otherwise the public in the UK would just be like mushrooms, UK MSM feeding us sh*t and keeping us in the dark!?
People have the internet now to peruse and be able to make their own minds up and this is worrying Governments throughout the world, of how they have deceived generations of people with cover ups and lies!

Completely agree !
Yes I'm ok now a lot of my anguish was due to shock that cover up is so easy and manipulation of truth is explained as poor record keeping and all that happens is managers say mea culpa blame it on a disposable Lone Ranger , write a nice shiny new policy and then it all goes back to normal.
I too think your right internet brings truth out from under the rocks because it ensures anonymity , but my heart breaks as atleast 70%of patients passing through that hospice door alone had no relatives ,friends or advocate ensuring best practice around popular patients and very often bad practice around less fortunate ones .
