A BRITISH woman has told Scotland Yard detectives seeking Madeleine McCann that she overheard a conversation in which a man said: “Why did you bring her here? Now we will have to dispose of the body.”

The potential key witness has been interviewed several times in Britain and used to live almost opposite apartment 5a of the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz on the Algarve, from where Madeleine, three, was taken on May 3, 2007.

The Sunday Express understands the comment was heard several hundred yards from the Ocean Club in a residential area towards the seafront.

The woman gave an interview to Portuguese detectives 13 days after the disappearance but the report on the informal interview does not mention her overhearing a conversation about disposing of a body.

However, in April 2008 the woman made a further statement in which she recounted hearing the astonishing comment, saying she heard it days after the abduction. She also claimed that the owner of a pub in Luz was called by a woman shortly after the disappearance who said she had overheard the comment about getting rid of a body.

The Sunday Express understands the owner of the bar has been interviewed but cannot recall the conversation.

The woman has since returned to Britain with her child and is living in the Home Counties.

When contacted by the Sunday Express, the woman, who we are choosing not to name to safeguard the investigation, said: “I do not want to say anything.”

Last month Scotland Yard detectives shadowed three searches of wasteland near the Ocean Club but no obvious clues were found.

Some materials gathered in the search were sent for forensic examination but officers were not hopeful of a breakthrough in the investigation.

The critical point here would be what language she heard it in, assuming as a British woman she heard it in English. Have we actually got a breakthrough, or are we now looking for bi-lingual binmen tractor driving burglars ?

Begs the question why she didn't mention it at the time, oh look she did, but those silly portugese didn't listen.....

Sounds like it's another one for the binman to put in the back of his wagon.

It is a copy and past from the SUN !
So must be treated with the plastic disposable gloves and the tongs provided, and placed in the appropriate bin, for disposal by properly trained operatives.

Everyone knew knew he told lies, so when he said he was innocent, everyone assumed it was just another lie.

There is another case where everyone knows knows that the the two people concerned have told many many lies, so when they say they are innocent, no one believes them

May 16, then - the very same day that Peter Smith 'remembered' seeing a bloke carrying a child and 'phoned his father, Martin Smith, saying: "Am I dreaming, or did we see a man carrying a child 13 days ago?"

does not mention her overhearing a conversation about disposing of a body.

She forgot? Or made it up later?

However, in April 2008 the woman made a further statement

She reported it, so we are told, to the police on 16 May. Did she hear this claimed conversation the same day or the day before? - or days earlier?

Very interesting. So who has disclosed this woman's identity to the Sunday Express? IMO it is very unlikely to have been Operation Grange. Which points the finger right back at the McCann Team - to Brian Kennedy's men once again. We can be almost certain, then, that this story has come about because this woman has spoken to the McCann Team, and that their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, has supplied the Sunday Express with the woman's address or contact details - maybe just a 'phone number. That must be the source for this story. In which case, we might well ask the question: was the placing of this story in a Sunday tabloid:

a) a genuine attempt to use the media to advance the search for Madeleine? or

b) a cynical attempt by the master of media manipulation and control to promote a fabricated non-story in ortder to maintain strong public perception that Madeleine was abducted?

'Shadow'? Quite a good word for a shadow so-called 'investigation' which in addition is 'shadowy'. The British taxpayer will be paying not only for the shadwoing but also all the Portuguese Police costs of carrying out these unproductive searches

They unearthed some rabbit or goat bones, I think?

Another extremely cynical attempt by the McCann Team and the mainstream tabloid press, acting in concert? - the McCann Team to promote the abduction claim, the Express to make money?

The Brit overhearing a conversation in a bar - IN WHAT LANGUAGE ?
And if you say anything other than English, the supplementary question is
Do you speak that language yourself, and if so so what level of competence ?

Sean hearing Dr Amaral speaking on the radio on the school bus ?
IN WHAT LANGUAGE, KATE ?
Dr Amaral does not speak English with any useful degree of fluency
Therefore he must have been speaking Portuguese - on English radio - - - ! (But Kate told us, and surely she is an honourable woman)
Or Sean already speaks Portuguese to a high standard - useful when he takes over the search, I suppose (But Kate told us, and surely she is an honourable woman)

We had all this many years ago with the cretin from Devon who heard the man speak "Fluent Portuguese"
though it turns out he himself had not a single word of the language, and as we commented at the time,
it sounds nothing like Spanish, to which it is closely related, and more like demotic Russian.

I love the way in which, almost without fail, these stories are built around overheard conversations which sound like lines from a very badly written play. Does anyone seriously believe that someone in the situation of having been presented with the body of the most well known 3 year old in the world would actually say "Why did you bring her here? Now we will have to dispose of the body." in a public place loudly enough to be heard? Only in a Victorian melodrama.Similarly the extraordinarily mature reflections on life attributed to the McCanns children are straight out of some fourth rate novel.

The only significance of this article is that it yet again reinforces the idea that Madeleine is dead which suggests to me that it wasn't actually the pink one who placed it particularly as it appears to have originated in Portugal.

I think this is tm getting the public to come to terms with death, as km saying a few weeks ago that she needs to know what happened. I think she knows she dead, but in the way OG seems to be heading lately, as burglar, killed and took the body for burial, certainly not by the tapas9 though. IMO

This story for me is as bad as the son who received a letter from Hewlett, but he then burned it so (very unfortunately) no evidence of what the son said was in the letter.

What use is this story anyway, she heard someone, didn't see them, couldn't identify them (except maybe voice) and if those words were uttered no doubt they would have been in hushed tones. So what on earth is the point of the story.

There is a 20 grand reward on offer from SY though.

Edited to add - and if hushed tones were used, she would have been close enough to identify the person surely.

Cr@p I'm sure, but wasn't there was a phone call from a local pub to LM/GM mobile on the night of the 3rd? Or they were placed in the pub on the night of the 3rd?

I just cannot remember the details - wasn't the pub on Rue de 25 April - was it Clive's Bar or Kelly's bar - can anyone remember any details?

"There are people who say that they were seen entering an apartment block near the cemetery in Praia da Luz. At that point in time we weren’t able to detect which apartment they entered, who lived there, because it’s also a bit complicated because you have to understand it’s a tourist area and often it’s not known who the apartment belongs to."

NickE -yes that apartment sprang to my mind as well and yes there was allegedly a freezer in the basement. I am sure the pub where the phone calls originated from and the apartment were all in the same area around rue de 15 Avril - I will try and find the threads later today they are interesting reading in their own right anyway.

I find this report quite interesting because I have often thought that the McCanns pre-planned to some extent and knew full well what happened to MBM but in carrying the plan out something either went wrong, or there were disagreements about the final stages of the plan. Or the plan had to change very quickly because it went wrong hence all the bungling.

Hence 'the fcuking bastards have taken her', the bruises on KM and maybe the need for the alleged phtotoshopped sunglasses to hide brusies on GM in the last photo? Also the traces of cadaver found in the apartment and the hire car - to me this bungling indicates something went wrong or they were maybe dropped in it to dispose of a body themselves at the last minute.
How this ties in with the establishment cover-up I do not know but I am sure something went wrong with the 'plan' (remember RM's words to the effect of ' this is the biggest cock-up on the planet'?).

I am sure this report is as dubious as most of the MSM cr@p but the idea behind it - a bungled 'plan' and a body that nobody knew how to or wanted to get rid of - is actually quite interesting to me.

All in my own opinion nothing stated as fact.

Quite. You can easily imagine how a misunderstanding would arise. Perhaps two people were discussing, speculating how one might in such a case dispose of a body.

A. "Well where would you bury her if you were the murderer?"

B. "Well I would bury her on wasteland. Like the wasteland over the other end of town."

A. "Well we agree on that. It has be wasteland and the wasteland on the other side of town would be a good place to bury her."

B. "I agree. But how are we going to bury her without the police or anyone else spotting us?" and so on...

If the woman heard the conversatino only from the third line onwards, she would not realise it was speculation - especially if she's a bit thick or the type who jumps to conclusions.
