Who is the man sticking up for the Mccanns? He doesn't know his facts, apparently SY have bought professionalism to the case and have done much investigation that wasn't done in 2007!

Two phone calls so far both agreeing with 'Sarah' who says mccann should stop looking and leave PDL alone.

Second caller saying children should have gone for meal and never been alone, should have their remaining children taken away And be banned from. PDL.

Last caller is disgusted that Portuguese police accused madeleines mother of being involved.

This caller is worried about effect on Sean and Amelie, Mccanns always put themselves first and children second 'what if there was a fire!' Says mccanns are massaging their own guilty feelings.

Repeatedly putting the PJ down with liberal use of the word 'bungled' unfortunately pushes the xenophobia button that many British people seem to have. Give some people an excuse to hate, and they'll stop any kind of critical analysis. Every political party knows this only too well. As far as I can tell, many voters vote for the party who is going to kick their chosen enemies in their nuts.

I have to say probably two thirds were for the Mccanns still looking for Madeleine.

However, the question was 'should the Mccanns give up looking for Maddie, given that SY and PJ are to dig up the resort at the start of holiday season' and l even l would have to say NO to that, a conclusion has to be arrived at.

One caller did mention the roadworks being dug up,again and moaned that the PJ should have searched them then knowing a child had gone missing, but we know that was all searched AND by the road workers themselves. So not so clued up l thought.

You may be able to listen to a podcast on iplayer later, someone may link to it.

Third caller should ask why hadn't SY searched back in 2011 when they started, most of the work the PJ had already done, along with the rest of the world, so SY should have achieved something by now.

Access to these programmes is stricty controlled.

I've noticed that the Daily Mail responses on McCann stories swing wildly between pro and anti. It seems pretty clear to me that sometimes someone is censoring all the anti-comments. Different mods presumably exercise a degree of personal judgement in line with editorial guidelines. Or maybe it depends on which lawyer reviews the comments...

Anyway, my point is you can't take the calls as indicative of public mood. In my personal contacts I have never come across anyone who said they believed the McCanns' version of events - and I have come across many people who are very hostile towards them. It's interesting as well that one comes across people occasionally who have clearly informed themselves via sites like this rather than MSM.

I very rarely encounter anyone who believes the McCann story. Even when I do meet someone who says "No, I can't believe they..." I give the a few links (this forum, them case files, the Truth of the Lie and a couple of others) and Presto! The next day they say "you've got a point" and it goes from there. I'm sure 'the people I know' isn't a meaningful statistical sample but it IS interesting and encouraging nonetheless.

I find the most common reaction to the McCanns is "I'm sick and tired of hearing about the McCanns." Which probably means that they don't have much time for the official story.

The Eddie and Keela video pretty much always changes people's minds, I've found. Except for those berks on twitter.

This is an aside but a saw a hilarious episode of South Park yesterday. Child had learned that Dad had been doing something he shouldn't be so Mum put the child into a car and put the car into a river. Then Mum and Dad told all the press he had been 'abducted' by a Porto Rican (of average size and build). The episode was based on Mum and Dad giving interviews to the press and asking everybody to try to find their child. Politicians and famous persons came to their aid to help, to fit their own agendas. What was sooooo funny was the innuendo of everyone, who could not say they did not believe the parents because of the influence of the politicians etc., but were so sarcastic in their 'agreement' of the fact of the unseen abductor. I just wish you had all watched it. I am sure the episode writer has followed other 'abduction' cases.

The best part of that South Park episode is the ending speech by Mom+Dad. Even though this is from 2005 and directly about the Ramsey/OJ Simpson/other cases it equally applies in this case too.
