Why did nobody assume that little April Jones had been exported to Russia/Morocco/Germany/Sweden/New Zealand/Brazil when she disappeared? Why didn't the dying man give the names of any others involved if there were any and why did he not say what region he thought she was sent to. I wonder if we will see a relative of the dying man come forward saying that they had a letter from him confirming it but could no longer find it.

Most other missing children don't have parents who hire a series of PRs and press spokesmen, who then run police-style press conferences describing women allegedly seen in foreign cities without a Maddie-like child not engaging in any kind of crime. Why did so many newspapers swallow this particular nonsense without saying: "So let me get this clear: a man has come to you a year after Maddie's disappearance saying he was on a stag night in Barcelona a year ago and some woman asked him if he'd seen her daughter, and you're promoting this as a lead to Madeleine? Seriously?"
But the press lapped it all up and printed the "Posh Spice" e-fit (because papers love that added celebrity angle, as any experienced press spokesman would know).

They just reproduce it unquestioningly, usually with pictures of the grieving parents and that old pic of Maddie with the 'eye' – the recent "Brazil" scoop that was exposed as an airport evacuation in Spain is a prime example. But it's cheap and very easy 'journalism', and it sells newspapers, so of course they lap it up.
