Latium was the ancient kingdom formed by the Latin people, later of course to merge into the great Roman Empire. Today its name is Lazio, most famous perhaps for being the team that Gazza (Paul Gascoigne) once played for.

Possibly its greatest king was King Tarquinius Superbus (‘Tarquinius the Superb’) who in 531 BC built a temple to Jupiter (or ‘Jupiter Latiaris’) and other pagan gods of the time. In return, Jupiter Latiaris conferred upon whoever was elected the King of Latium (or the Latin Confederation as it became) the power which went with his title: ‘Dictattor Latinus’. The celebrrations included a triumphal procession.

The temple, and the sacred college of high priests which developed as a result, is revered in ancient Freemasonry. The ‘King of Latium’ appointed a high priest to run his sacred college, called the ‘Pontifex Maximus’ - one of titles later adopted by the Popes (along with ‘His Holiness’, ‘Vicar of Christ on Earth’ etc. etc.). The ‘Pontifex Maximus’ was also known as ‘The Great Architect’, the name given to the supreme being according to Masonic beliefs.

The great goddess of the ancient world was Artemis, being worshipped in parts of Europe, Asia Minor and north Africa. An especially sacred grove to her, the Grove of Nemi, was located in Latium. It was a place where the sacred king was sacrificed or killed in a duel by his rival, in order to continue the cycle of the year (an interesting version of this ritual was preserved in the tales of King Arthur’s court).

Meanwhile, arguably one of the greatest (and fattest) of all Freemasons was Albert Pike (so fat that I think he choked on his own fat and died).

Pike was said to be not only a Freemason but a Satanist, who indulged in the occult, and apparently possessed a bracelet which he used to summon Lucifer, with whom he claimed he had constant communication.

He was certainly the Grand Master of a Luciferian group known as the Order of the Palladium (or Sovereign Council of Wisdom), which had been founded in Paris in 1737.

Palladism had been brought to Greece from Egypt by Pythagoras in the fifth century, and it was this cult of Satan that was introduced to the inner circle of the Masonic lodges. It was aligned with the Palladium of the Templars.

In 1801, Issac Long, a Jew, brought a statue of Baphomet (Satan) to Charleston, South Carolina, where he helped to establish the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.

Long apparently chose Charleston because it was geographically located on the 33rd parallel of latitude (incidentally, so is Baghdad), and this council is considered to be the Mother Supreme Council of all Masonic Lodges of the World. The 33rd degree is of course the supreme rank of organised Freemasonry.

Hmmm, and now this from today's 'Daily Star':

POLITICIANS, judges and police chiefs who allegedly abused care home children in North Wales dodged justice because most were freemasons, claims a victim.

Keith Gregory suffered two years of mental, physical and sexual abuse at the Bryn Estyn children’s home.

Mr Gregory, now a councillor in Wrexham, said he was regularly driven out of the home by staff to a hotel where he was sexually assaulted. He claimed up to 13 other victims had committed suicide.

Mr Gregory told BBC Radio 5 Live he is convinced the abusers escaped justice through Masonic loyalty.

He said: “Most of them were Freemasons. There were two MPs, senior judges, serving police officers, senior police officers, market traders, business people from Wrexham – but there were people from all over Britain.

“One MP was a Conservative but I’m not sure of the other.”

He added: “Everyone at Bryn Estyn used to cry themselves to sleep every night.”

Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered an investigation.
