McCanns will still be looking in another year or two
I taped this afternoon's Press Conference in London.
Some journo asked about the aged enhanced photo. This was Kates reply:
(14.38 pm)
The picture of her at age 6 looked quite old so we weren't in a rush to kind of change it. If you have too many pictures it can get quite confusing but it is something we'd consider in another year or two probably.
Gerry immediately jumps in with:
You know when I went to Washington back in 2007 blah blah

Parasites?
Poor Madeleine McCann has become an industry giving remunerative employment to a great many people:maebee wrote:I taped this afternoon's Press Conference in London.

* The next set of age-progression pictures will need to be produced by somebody
* Bates Wells and Braithwaite employ lawyers, admin staff and secretaries to adminster the Fund
* Newspapers sell millions of extra copies
* Photographers get paid for taking photos of the McCanns
* The McCanns' website designers
* The makers of 'viral' and YouTube videos about Madeleine
* How many artists' sketches have we had so far? - the artists all have to be paid
* Clarence Mitchell's had a full-time or part-tme job managing the McCanns' reputation
* Melissa Little got paid some tidy sums for 'Bundleman' and 'Monster-Man'
* Kevin Halligen made 500 grand and treated him and his girlfriend to a high-living lifestyle
* Metodo 3 did nicely - was it £250,000? - or perhaps double that
* Many hotels and airlines have done well out of the McCanns
* Lawyers - Michael Caplan, Angus McBride, Edward Smethurst - and of course Adam Tudor, Isabel Hudson and others at Carter-Ruck.
Have I missed out any other

The film, of course.

Items 9 and 15 from our leaflet which compiled some of the sayings of 'Master Media Manipulator', Clarence Mitchell - full text over on our website [[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , under 'Articles']:ufercoffy wrote:Marian wrote:I wonder what is being lined up for the 5 year anniversary in 2012? The film, of course.
9. Making a film for TV about the McCanns’ distress ‘one year on’ whilst at the same time claiming the McCanns were not doing so
Clarence Mitchell told the media: “The McCanns don't want to do anything about 'woe is us a year on'. That is what the tabloids would like us to do, but we are not following their agenda, we are following our own agenda” (one of many references to ‘our agenda’). Weeks later, there was a two-hour long pre-recorded TV interview: ‘Madeleine McCann - One Year On’, clearly prepared long before his public statement, and certainly with his personal knowledge.
15. Claiming it would be ‘hugely entertaining’ to devise a cast list for a proposed film about Madeleine going missing
On 7 January 2008 it was widely reported in the media that the McCanns and their advisers were in talks with media and film moguls IMG, who made the film ‘Touching the Void’, about a possible film about Madeleine’s disappearance. Clarence Mitchell was asked whether Gerry and Kate would play themselves in any film or if their roles would be played by celebrity actors. He said: “It may be hugely entertaining and a bit of fun to speculate on a cast list, but we are a million miles away from that sort of thing”. On another occasion, he said of Madeleine: “If she is dead, she is dead”. These and other comments made some wonder how much ‘feel’ or concern for Madeleine’s welfare and fate Mitchell really had.

Kate's not expecting her to be found any time soon then.

Now there's a hugely entertaining idea for a new thread - coming up with cast members for the film

They never have. They've always been planning events well into the future, even from June 2007.
Gerry McCann, on June 3rd, 2007: “We want a big event to raise awareness that she is still missing. “We would look at high-profile people who have already pledged support. It will be some sort of focus around an anniversary, to tell people that Madeleine ’s still missing. I think it would be later this year, once media attention has dropped, to bring it back up, hopefully, for a short period. “It wouldn’t be a one-year anniversary, it will be sooner than that.”
And I still want to know why their online shop shows the date 2006 when Madeleine went missing in 2007.

Just an innocent mistake. It's obvious.ufercoffy wrote:

Just like the mistake over the jemmied shutters, and over who had closed the door of the children's room, and which side of the road Gerry and whoever were standing, or not, and the mistake over which way bundleman was going, and whether he was carrying a banket or a child in a blanket or even Madeleine Beth McCann, in pink, or white or both colours pyjamas, and whether it was a man or a woman, or both or neither, and whether they searched that night or the following morning, and whether anyone else ever searched and whether Madeleine is in the USA, or Australia on a yacht, or Morrocco, or a "hellish lair within 10 miles of Pdl....
Just MISTAKES. We must all understand that mistakes can be made.

Oh PeterMac, how I wish I'd been a copper working for you in CID child protection.

Suggested cast for the film
I'm having difficulties thinking of someone to play Gerry but how about Meryl Streep for the part of Kate? She's good with accents and took the lead in "Cry in the dark", the film based on the controversial dingo baby case in Australia.

The star of 'Liar, Liar', Jim Carrey, could play the part of Gerry. And he could pull the faces, especially the 'nasty smell under the nose' look.

McCanns' online shop
Re Ufercoffy's point about the year on the McCanns' online shop, I've checked it out and, while 2007 is on the home page, it does look as if all the other pages say 2006. I'm no computer expert (in my day we corresponded with chalk and slates!) so can anyone tell me if this is a simple error in the way that anyone could make a written mistake or does it indicate something very worrying as to when the site was first being created?

It is fascinating how often they have told the world that there is no chance that Madeleine will ever be found.maebee wrote:

Gerry immediately jumps in with:
You know when I went to Washington back in 2007 blah blah
Anniversaries, events planned months in advance, the Fund set up, the brother giving up his well paid job to run it, the delay in the production of the book, and that latest statement. Everything they say points to the certainty that she will not be found. Every smirk and grin and laugh when asked a difficult question, every sneer from Gerry when he is interviewed, the laughter and smiles coming out of the Church on day 8, everything points only in one direction.
They know, beyond a peradventure, - certain so that they are sure, that neither Madeleine, nor her remains, will ever be found.
(But then so did Haigh.)
