Perhaps the Sunday Express has been in touch with the PJ and their spokesperson has said they will reopen the case if the McCanns return to do a reconstruction and answer the questions, perhaps they are calling their bluff? It wouldn't look too good in the publics eyes if they refused.

DETECTIVES working on the Madeleine McCann case say they are ready to reopen the investigation into her disappearance.
Portuguese police have indicated they would be happy to work with the missing girl’s parents and their friends.

The gesture will come as a huge boost to Kate and Gerry McCann, who last week launched a petition and urged Home Secretary Theresa May to request a review of the case.

A senior police source in Portugal said: “Detectives are committed to resolving this case and would work on any review and pursue any line of inquiry suggested.”

As the McCanns launched a petition last week, a frustrated Gerry said: “For the past three and a half years, the authorities have not being doing anything proactive to help Madeleine. I don’t think it’s right that the onus should fall on us. The authorities really should be doing more.”

Kate added: “We need action. I don’t need fluffy, worthless words. We need somebody to do something.”

Almost 26,000 people had yesterday signed the online appeal for the Government to do more to find Madeleine.

Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry are thrilled with the number of people who have supported them. It shows them there is still a huge amount of public opinion behind them.”

The couple, doctors from Rothley, Leicestershire, are due to fly to Lisbon on Tuesday to consult their lawyers.

Legal sources in Portugal say they should use their visit to ask their lawyer to formally write a letter to the Policia Judiciaria and to the Portuguese attorney-general’s office.

If a review was ordered, the Policia Judiciaria would suggest that there should be reconstructions of two key incidents on the evening of May 3, 2007, in Praia da Luz on the Algarve.

The McCanns’ friend Jane Tanner said she saw a man holding a child she believed to be Madeleine. Irishman Martin Smith said that the same evening he saw a man with a child in his arms walking to the beach.

Last year, a documentary prepared with the McCanns’ investigator, former British police officer Dave Edgar, highlighted those sightings.

A well-placed source in Portugal said: “Mr Edgar clearly recognises the importance of these two incidents. We had hoped to do full filmed reconstructions but that did not take place but we would be happy to try again to get that vital work done.”

He said that both Kate and Gerry McCann and their holiday friends, David and Fiona Payne, Diana Webster, Rachel and Matthew Oldfield, Jane Tanner and her partner Russell O’Brien, would be treated with great sensitivity in any reconstruction.

Last week Kate, 42, said she was “disappointed” over the Home Secretary’s failure to help find her daughter, saying: “There is an abductor out there who is free to take another child. Other children are at risk and nothing is being done.”

She added: “We don’t know how long this will go on for but it is our life. You get stronger handling the pain.”

The Portuguese police source said: “Every time we get information sent to us we look into it. Nothing is ignored.

“The frustration is that there has not been a strong lead for a long time.”

A McCanns’ spokesman said: “We would welcome any indication of support from the PJ. However, we would be hoping to have an official response to our call for a review of evidence.”

This is what Mr. Martin Smith told police, in Portugal and, later, in Ireland:

“I saw Gerard McCann (sic) going down the plane stairs carrying one of his children on 9th September 2007 BBC news at 10 PM, I have been shown the video clip by Sergeant Hogan which I recognise. A clip I have seen before on the Internet. In relation to the video clips of Gerard McCann (sic) and the person I saw on 3rd May 2007 when I saw the BBC news at 10 PM on 9th September 2007 something struck me that it could have been the same person. It was the way Gerard McCann turned his head down which was similar to what the individual did on 3rd May 2007 when we met him. It may have been the way he was carrying the child either. I would be 60-80% sure that it was Gerard McCann (sic) that I met that night carrying a child.”

Translations of Martin Smith and family statements can be read here

MADELEINE MCCANN: DID THE CAMERA HOLD VITAL CLUE?

http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/210032/Madeleine-McCann-Did-the-camera-hold-vital-clue-/

THE detective who led the initial investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance believes her abductor was caught on camera – but revealed that the film was wiped before detectives saw it.

Yesterday controversial figure Goncalo Amaral backed Kate and Gerry McCann’s demand for a review and reopening of the investigation.

The Sunday Express took Mr Amaral, whose book Maddy: The Truth Of The Lie was banned briefly from bookstores, to Praia da Luz to ask him to reveal where mistakes were made.

He walked the route he believes the person who snatched Madeleine took. It begins at apartment 5A of the Ocean Club, from where the three-year-old disappeared on May 3, 2007.

Mr Amaral believes the person would have crossed a road leading to a poorly lit road alongside waste ground.

Standing at an entrance to the waste ground, Mr Amaral said: “This area was thoroughly searched.”

He walked a few steps and looked up at a CCTV camera and sighed loudly. The camera belongs to the Estrela da Luz resort hotel. “I believe that the person carrying a child in his arms was captured on film from that very camera,” he said.

“I asked my officers to gather all the CCTV footage in Luz but, by the time they got to this hotel, the film from this camera had been wiped over. It was a mistake and I will always regret it. I do feel Madeleine was let down.”

Walking alongside the waste ground, he enters a narrow street called Rua da Escola Primaria. “This is where there was a significant sighting of a man carrying a child in his arms,” he said. “He was seen by a witness, Martin Smith from Ireland.”

At least we have mention of the Smiths sighting for a change.

One has the feeling that the Sunday Express story will not be going down at all well in some quarters.

Ahhh bless, the Amaral news has Aunty Phil bonnybraes perplexed

Another oddity - look at who Gonc has given this bizarre interview to.
None other than James Murray of the Express, who has been on the receiving end of numerous from Ms Morais.
The whole thing is peculiar.

Re: Sunday Express front page - Portuguese to reopen the case???

Post by kathyBelle on Sun 7 Nov 2010 - 4:32

If this case is reopened, the McCanns should once again be made arguidos and they should remain in Portugal, until it is proved that Madeleine was abducted. If there is proof that she was abducted, the McCanns should then be charged with the wilful neglect of Madeleine, that lead to her disappearance.

If there is no proof Madeleine was abducted and if the McCanns have made statements, to say they were the last people to see Madeleine alive, the McCanns should be charged with the murder of Madeleine and the disposal of her body. If the McCanns have made statements, to say that they left their 3 children alone, on the previous nights they went out, they should also be charged with the wilful neglect of all of their children.

If the PJ can prove that the British Government intervened in this case, when they wanted to bring charges against the McCanns, then the person who intervened on behalf of the British Government, should be named and shamed. If the Prime Minister, who was Tony Blair, at the time of Madeleine's disappearance, sanctioned this action, he too should be named and shamed. Along with the person from the Portuguese Government, who allowed the British Government, to intervene and overrule the PJ.

If the PJ can't or won't officially say, that the British Government intervened in this case, then they won't be able to make anything stick against the McCanns. They had it in their power to charge the McCanns, with at least the wilful neglect of Madeleine, on the night she disappeared and for reasons best known to themselves, they didn't.

Also for reasons best known to PJ, they hounded Robert Murat, who may or may not have been involved with Madeleine's disappearance. Whilst allowing the McCanns, to go hither and thither to anywhere they pleased, knowing full well that they were 100% responsible for whatever happened to Madeleine on the night she disappeared.

It isn't too long ago, that the British Government extradited a football fan to Portugal. The fan had been found guilty of an affray in Portugal and returned to the UK. It was quite right that the fan was extradited and jailed, for his part in the affray, but it beggers belief that the McCanns, who are responsible for Madeleine's disappearance, are not only walking free, but at the moment are calling all the shots, with people too scared to challenge them, for fear of what they might do.

Who are the McCanns?

It does mean he is giving plenty credibility to Martin Smith's sighting.

So does it mean Mr Edgar is not in with the maccanns' game?

I Can`t seem to find anything at all in the Portuguese news about any of this - surely a re-opening of the case would be big news. The news that Amaral went walkies with the Express and showed them the route that the abductor may have taken is pure fabrication and bad journalism of course, but what about the news that the case is to be re-opened? I don`t see it any where credible yet.

Either way, some people are panicking - something good is going on, but what?

Sunday Express : An eye catching headline and a plug for the McCann's petition; the real news this week being that there is a risk that Halligen may spill the beans on what he was really tasked to do by the Kennedy / McCann fund. No wonder brother John and Doug wanted out!

I am shocked - far more than usual in this case

PLEASE - could someone look at page 9 of todays Sunday Express (paper copy) and tell whether I am imaging things or has the Express really gone to the trouble of dressing someone up to impersonate Goncalo Amaral.

I'm really confused here !!!

After everything the British press did to Goncalo Amaral, why on earth would he now be doing exclusives with any of them??

Is Goncalo wearing glasses full time now?

Stella, I am wondering why the newspaper groups, are so defensive of the McCanns, after they sued them. I know the newspaper groups printed lies amongst the truth, but the bottom line is, the newspaper groups know that the McCanns are responsible for whatever happened to Madeleine.

Hi kathyBelle, I have no doubts that the media have plenty of stories that they are not YET allowed to print, but even when they do, can we ever believe any of it?

Only today, Kandohla in the Daily Wail is claiming Gerry is a surgeon !!

Regarding the mirror's use of "abductor", it is factually correct.

Indeed Madeleine was abducted from apartment 5a, abduction needn't be carried out by a stranger. The removal of Madeleine was a deceitful act, the purpose was to hide her body so that those responsible for her demise could evade capture, gain public sympathy and rake in oodles of money - Ask the McCanns

Blood and cadaver alerts

Retired DCI Gonçalo Amaral: "The English can always present the conclusions to which they themselves arrived in 2007. Because they know, they have the evidence of what happened - they don't need to investigate anything. All this is now a mere 'show off'."

Retired murder DCI Colin Sutton: "I would also like to make the point that Operation Grange was so restricted from the start as to be destined to fail."

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley made public on national TV that Operation Grange is a complete fraud.

Ex-DCI Andy Redwood had a "revelation moment" on BBC's Crimewatch on 14th October 2013 when he announced that Operation Grange had eliminated the Tanner sighting - which opened up the 'window of opportunity', in accordance with their remit, to allow the fake abduction to happen.

Despite "irrelevant behaviour" from blood and cadaver dogs in the McCann's apartment, on Kate McCann's clothes, and in the car they hired three weeks after Maddie disappeared, Ex-Chief Inspector, Ian Horrocks, said: "The thought that Kate and Gerry McCann had anything to do with the death of their daughter is frankly preposterous."

Gerry McCann called for example to be made of 'trolls'. SKY News reporter Martin Brunt doorstepped Brenda Leyland on 2 October 2014. She was then found dead in a Leicester hotel room. Brenda paid the price. She paid with her life.

Ex-Deputy Chief Constable, Jim Gamble QPM, congratulated SKY reporter, Martin Brunt, on twitter for doorstepping Brenda Leyland on behalf of Gerry McCann.
