Madeleine McCann cops tracing 13 KEY SUSPECTS seen acting suspiciously in Praia da Luz

POLICE probing Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are still trying to trace 13 suspects.

They were all seen acting suspiciously in and around the resort of Praia da Luz in Portugal before and after the youngster vanished in 2007.

Despite high profile police appeals and the release of a series of sketches and e-fits in the 12 years since, none have come forward.

One suspect is feared to have carried out up to 28 sex attacks on other children within a 40-mile radius of the apartment from which then-three-year-old Madeleine went missing.

Wearing a surgical mask, he got into bed with a seven-year-old British girl but fled when she woke up and asked: “Is that you daddy?’’

Another suspect was chased from a holiday apartment after a horrified mum caught him standing over her young daughter.

Some scouted out houses pretending to collect cash for an orphanage which did not exist.

Another was spotted sneaking away from the McCanns’ holiday apartment six hours before Madeleine disappeared after her parents left her asleep inside while they dined with pals in a nearby tapas bar.

Two were spotted carrying children – one a blonde girl around Madeleine’s age wearing similar pink pyjamas – after the youngster’s doctor mum Kate discovered she was missing.

The sightings were either reported to police or private investigators hired by the McCanns to look for their daughter.

So far only one – initially thought to be crucial – has been definitely ruled out.

The fact so many leads remain active may explain why the Portuguese and Metropolitan Police both insist their investigations – now running in tandem – should continue.

Officers in Portugal have been granted extra resources to probe a “new lead and new suspect” understood to be a foreign paedophile who was in the Algarve.

Meanwhile Scotland Yard – which has spent £12million probing Madeleine’s disappearance – has asked for an extra £300,000 to fund its inquiry for at least another year.

Met commissioner Cressida Dick said last week: “We have active lines of inquiry."

Kate revealed a number of the sightings in her 2011 book about her daughter’s disappearance.

Portuguese police said their investigation is continuing.

The Met said it “will not give a running commentary” on its probe."
