Portuguese police probing the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been given a new kidnap suspect, it's been claimed.
Today marks 12 years since the young girl vanished on a family holiday in Portugal on May 3, 2007.
Policia Judiciaria have been given extra resources to look at a “new clue” and a “new suspect”, according to leading Portuguese daily Correio da Manha.
The newspaper also claimed that “Portuguese police admit to being nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine McCann” and said authorities had “many doubts” she was still alive.
It's said public prosecutors had turned down its request to see new material relating to the case because of “active lines of investigation”.
“Police are following new Maddie kidnap clues,” the well-known tabloid reported today.
It added: “More inspectors are advancing with an investigation into a new suspect.

“A new clue and a new suspect, which the PJ are trying to keep an absolute secret, has led to new resources being put in place to investigate the little girl’s whereabouts.”
Police in Porto, who had the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance reopened in Portugal in October 2013 after linking convicted burglar Euclides Monteiro to the inquiry, are said to be looking into the new information.
Monteiro, an immigrant who was a restaurant worker at the beach club, had been fired from his job for stealing from guests.
According to Portuguese media, it is claimed he may have kidnapped the girl as an act of revenge against his former employer.
But police never got to question the ex-employee because he died in a tractor accident in 2009.

There was no immediate official response in Portugal to today’s report, which coincides with the 12th anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance from her family’s Algarve holiday apartment as her parents ate tapas nearby.
Madeleine's parents today vowed to carry on looking for their missing daughter “for as long as it takes”.
In a message to mark the latest harrowing milestone which they wish they could “fast forward”, her parents have shared their heartache that Maddie would soon be turning 16.
In a posting on the Official Find Maddie Campaign website, the couple from Rothley, Leicestershire, jointly say: “It’s that time of year again.

"As much as we’d like to fast forward the first couple of weeks of May, there’s no getting around it."
Last month Portugal’s Attorney General’s Office was unable to say if British authorities had made any further formal requests for help.
Asked if any more rogatory letters had been received from authorities in the UK, where a separate investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance is continuing, a spokesman said: “As is public knowledge, an inquiry in the Portimao section of the Faro DIAP Public Prosecutors Office is ongoing.
"It is under investigation.”
A spokesman for Portugal's Attorney General's office said: “Regarding these facts, as is public knowledge, an inquiry in the Portimao section of the Faro DIAP Public Prosecutors Office is ongoing. It is under investigation.”
Scotland Yard said: "The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing. We are not providing a running commentary

ETA: Story also in today's Daily Express, which refers to 'a masked foreigner'

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"
Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

Sounds like the police in Portugal have said absolutely nothing and our fakenews outlets have made the assumption that they're looking at a new suspect. Why would the Portuguese offer any information at all if they work in silence?
And why, if they don't think Madeleine is alive, are they trying to find her whereabouts?
Yet another badly written article

What's that smell?"A new clue and a new suspect, which the PJ are trying to keep an absolute secret, has led to new resources being put in place to investigate the little girl’s whereabouts.”
BS?

There is only one smell they should be concentrating on, if they did that they'd solve the case

They still need to find a body.

Standard practice. And they are issued with Human Cadaverine spray, boxes of sated mosquitos to splat on walls, and A4 drawings of eggs to release to the press.sandancer wrote:Yes of course , the police always inform the suspect through the media that they're after them !
In the boot of every car is a full repair kit with spares for smashed and jemmied shutters

The police, (depending on which country you are in) also come with favourite luncheon traditions. For instance, the UK police like nothing more than to have several beers after a hard day's work in Kos, whilst the Portuguese like to munch sardines and ignore their duties.PeterMac wrote:Standard practice. What a dirty, dirty, dirty campaign this has been.
ETA: I am referring to the media reports of UK Police shipped over to Kos, conveniently to solve Ben Needham's disappearance and the subsequent negative media reportage of the senior officer.
I have no idea how to be subtle about all of this.

There is no way to be subtle any more.
The dead German / Polish / Bulgarian / Gypsy Paedophile in the surgical mask, who speaks English and smells funny [garlic - it's always garlic] and is swarthy and hunched and limps - obviously
still has to avoid the Tapas 7 as they are trotting back and forth, get in sometime somehow, get across the room, avoid waking the twins, pick up Madeleine, kill her, remain in the living room and the wardrobe in the parents' room for sufficiently long for cadaverine to develop to the point where it is detectable, and then get out, again avoiding the Tapas 7 and Gerry and Jez W.
All without leaving so much as a fingerprint or a hair, a footprint, or a scuff or glove mark.
He had 1 minute and 20 seconds to do it. Their figures, not mine.
It doesn't matter who they choose, they still have to explain what happened so that a jury can understand it, and "see it" in their minds' eye. That is how criminal justice works.

Hi Peter, could you explain the one minute twenty seconds bit please. or, if its already been discussed point me in that direction. I knew time was tight but hadn't realised it was such a "small window of opportunity" ( to quote Kate)PeterMac wrote:There is no way to be subtle any more.
