Comic Frankie Boyle slammed by family of Maddie McCann for jokes at Liverpool Philharmonic

THE LIVERPOOL grandad of missing Madeleine McCann hit out after a comic made “low” jokes about her disappearance.
Brian Healy, dad to Madeleine’s mum Kate, told the ECHO he and his family were angry and hurt after Scottish stand-up Frankie Boyle made gags about the night the three-year-old went missing and how the family were coping.
Boyle is best known as a panellist of TV game show Mock the Week, but when he transfers from screen to stage is notorious for telling shocking jokes, regularly using rape or child abuse as his subject matter.
Mr Healy, 71, said although he hadn’t seen the show at the Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street on Saturday night, friends had told him what was said.
//
Mr Healy said: “If he’s making jokes like that he must be very short of material.
“That is really low, bottom of the barrel stuff, going to that sort of level just to get a laugh.”
Advertising for the show, called “I Would Happily Punch Every One of you in the Face”, carried warnings about the content.
Boyle played three sell-out shows at the Philharmonic over Saturday and Sunday, and was seen by nearly 5,000 people.

Re: Comic Frankie Boyle slammed by family of Maddie McCann
Frankie Boyle is one of the wittiest, funniest and most relevant and incisive comedians to have come out in the UK since Peter Cook.
He cracked a very funny joke about Gerald McCann putting a pool table in Madeleine's unused bedroom.
71 years old Healy needs to have a word with his own daughter and son-in-law about using Madeleine's coloboma as a good marketing ploy, despite their own admission that they were aware that whomever was allegedly holding Madeleine could damage her eye or otherwise harm her.
Why did Healy not comment on his daughter's fury at Amaral's book ban being overturned?
It is outrageous and tragic that the Team McCann are insisting on dragging out this sick old man to put in their spin machine. For the sake of his grandchildren, Healy should refuse to have anything further to do with the media. He and his wife have caused their daughter and son-in-law enough trouble by mentioning sedation and describing Madeleine as a completely different child to the one known by the nannies in Praia da Luz.

Re: Comic Frankie Boyle slammed by family of Maddie McCann
Brian Healey, needs to look a little closer to home, before he starts complaining about comedians telling jokes about Madeleine's disappearance. I take it he didn't see the interview between Sandra Felgueiras, his daughter and his son-in-law, when they were asked a question about the cadaver dogs. "Ask the dogs" said Gerry McCann and burst out laughing. I've never found anything funny about Madeleine's disappearance, but the McCanns have. The only time the smile is wiped of their faces is when they are confronted by some very uncomfortable questions, regarding their behaviour in Praia da Luz.
I wonder how much money Brian Healey and his wife are taking out of the fund to find Madeleine, that is the biggest joke of all. Only the joke is on those who donated to this fund.

I honestly think the Liverpool Echo had someone there to do a write up about Frankie Boyles show and when the reporter heard the joke, he/she contacted Mr Healy for his comments.
I don`t believe for one minute a friend was so callous that he would phone an elderly man and repeat the joke.

I dont think there is ever a reason for making jokes about a missing child,Madeleine did nothing wrong in all of this,an innocent and should not be targetted in this way. Some things are just not the stuff of jokes no matter how "witty, funny, incisive and relevant" the comedian may seem to some.

I agree Rainbow that joking about Madeleine would to me at least not be funny. But what I glean from the interview was that it was more about the family, and we don't actually know what this joke was do we. Probably not that bad, and has been embelished for the tabloids to give more publicity to the McCanns.

Perhaps you should be asking Kate and Gerry why they smirked and sniggered their way through interviews and were photograghed smiling and laughing only days after Madeleine's disappearance.

A week or so after Madeleine disappeared, on what would have been her 4th birthday, the McCanns were filmed outside the church, laughing and joking, as they accepted gifts of flowers, from the locals.

So that makes it alright does it in your opinion?

It is not alright but many people it seems have joked about the "Search for Maddie"
Why might that be??
Because they do not believe one word that comes out of the McCanns mouths.
They are not laughing about the situation poor Maddie found herself in or at Maddie herself, they are laughing at the antics of her parents as they stumble around trying to evade justice IMO

@ Rainbow
You have totally misunderstood what Frankie Boyle's joke is about, and it is therefore foolish of you to continue making your silly comments towards the rest of us here.
One will repeat once again that Boyle is without doubt, one of the funniest, wittiest, incisve and relevant comedians since Peter Cook. This does not mean we all have to laugh at his jokes, but we should take onboard the fact that he has chosen to give Gerald McCann a mention in his performance.
He is a modern day court jester, and one would suggest that you acquaint yourself with the job that they used to do by spreading the news of the day. In order to leave a banquet with their head attached to their neck, they would choose humour to make comment.

Re: Comic Frankie Boyle slammed by family of Maddie McCann
Actually this "joke" is about four MONTHS old. It was reported on in the Daily Mail back in JUNE. And the Shock! Horror! factor has simply been resurrected because Frankie Boyle has just played a gig in Liverpool.
Now were the Healys in the audience? How do they know what the "joke" was, then? Did someone tell them? If so, who?
Or perhaps you should be asking yourselves why the Healys are so "shocked" and "traumatised" about it all NOW, when nobody bothered to complain about it four months ago.

I agree, clearly Frankie Boyle has not been taken in by the McCanns' deception and I applaud him for having the courage to convey his feelings about Gerry by means of humour.

Re: Comic Frankie Boyle slammed by family of Maddie McCann
Is it true that Boyle attended the same school as McCann?
We have already had a medical man say that one would have to watch one's back when McCann was around. One wonders if there was ever any schoolboy mischief that Boyle may reveal one day .

Re: Comic Frankie Boyle slammed by family of Maddie McCann
They both went to Holyrood Secondary on Aitkenhead Road in Govanhill. But they would probably not have met each other there as Frankie Boyle is much younger, so they would have been in different years. As Holyrood was the biggest Secondary School in Glasgow at that time (in terms of pupil numbers) it is not particularly surprising.

One likes to think that some of the ex-pupils of this school are like dormant hot-house flowers, only waiting for the day when they can be quickly forced to display themselves to the world's media. The press already know who they are.
If only we knew what the police discovered upon questioning the McCanns contemporaries.
