Pulse Films will investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for Netflix
Pulse Films will investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for Netflix, as the SVoD revolution gathers pace for UK indies.
The eight-part true-crime series is being made in association with Viacom-owned Hollywood studio Paramount Television. It aims to shine a light on the three-year- old’s disappearance in 2007, and will include interviews with key figures and investigators.
Pulse managing director of non-scripted television Emma Cooper is exec producing the project. The Vice-owned indie declined to comment.
The project is Paramount Television’s highest profile factual series to date. It recently co-produced comedy-drama Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events for Netflix and is co-financing BBC1’s forthcoming John Le Carré adaptation The Spy Who Came In From The Cold.
Pulse’s project is the latest in a long line of McCann documentaries; in May, BBC1 aired Panorama special Madeleine McCann: Ten Years On, while a Crimewatch special on the disappearance drew nearly 7 million viewers in 2013.

Re: Pulse Films will investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for Netflix
Will there be any sort of criticism in this film?
Will the CPS be watching it?
Will be interesting as Pulse films apparently like to make films which get people talking. It will certainly do that.

Re: Pulse Films will investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for Netflix
May and October every year are significant months in the McCann calendar. May I can fully understand because that's the month Madeleine allegedly vanished but October? Could be a simple explanation - a celebration, an anniversary, to mark the McCanns flight to freedom way back in 2007 or maybe a return to work after the summer recess. Whatever, it's become very tedious after ten years of the same.
It was one cold windy rainy October day that Ms Poulton first announced the making of her blockbuster the 'Untold Story' in the light of the dossier of death - why October? Is this to be the grand finale - is Pulse Films to be the final destination for the untold story or is this latest only a re-hash the Australian TV documentary aired last April? It's got Sky written all over it.
This is just another worthless distraction methinks.

Pulse films has got a facebook page but there's nothing about Madeleine on there. https://www.facebook.com/pulsefilms/
Broadcast are reporting that Netflix is to explore Madeleine McCann's disappearance in a series similar in tone to their other true-crime megahit Making a Murderer. The eight-part series which has yet go into production will delve deeper into the case with interviews with 'key people' involved in the case. The article also references the fact that the streaming giant as recently hired BBC Storyville editor Kate Townsend to head up a UK-based factual division.
The McCann series will be produced by UK based company Pulse Films. At this early stage there's no firm details on how soon we can expect the series but the announcement follows the confirmation of Netflix's first UK drama from acclaimed writer Jack Thorne which will produced by Manchester based Red Production Company.

I had a look at Pulse Films dot com - nothing there either. Doesn't look like the type of outfit to take on yet another McCann documentary.

It's a UK film company so presumably Carter-Ruck are on stand-by.

Surely it is a Police Operational Decision to evaluate the evidence to a supposed Criminal Activity, not a film Company, but alas if you have the Assistant Commander of the Metropolitan Police Service,Mark Rowley, clearly state that the,Tapas 7/9 and Mr &Mrs McCann are not suspects, of involvement, then Pulse films must have the Right to find out what happened to Madeleine McCann on her disappearance 3 May 2007 from 5a Ocean Club Apartments as declared by her Parents.sallypelt wrote:The present and past directors/officers of PULSE FILMS LTD

Ergo, why aren't Kate and Gerry informing Pulse Films that they(Pulse films) maybe jeopardising the Investigation of Operation Grange into finding the Guilty parties who are to be held responsible for what happened to Madeleine 3 May 2007,stating,Thanks but No thanks for the Time being??

Re: Pulse Films will investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for Netflix
There is something very odd about this. I'm sure I recall Poulton having some connection with Pulse - maybe not films but a news channel with a Sky News link? I'm not clued up on media conglomerates, it's all too confusing for me, it would appear that the brand name Pulse is prominent in the 'alternative' media realm but whether or not there is a link between my recollection and Pulse Films remains to be seen.Get'emGonçalo wrote:Pulse films has got a facebook page but there's nothing about Madeleine on there. https://www.facebook.com/pulsefilms/

Vice Media to buy Pulse Films
Vice Media, the youth-focused media company, is set to acquire Pulse Films, the independent content studio, ahead of launching a TV channel in the UK.
29th March 2016
Viceland: will launch in the UK on Sky later this year
The move, announced by Vice this morning, follows from a partnership with Pulse which began in 2013 and saw the studio produce online content in the US.
Vice said the acquisition would bolster its programming capabilities across digital, mobile and linear TV, while Pulse would continue as an independent brand.
The two companies first worked together in 2012 on Shut Up and Play the Hits, a documentary film that followed James Murphy, the frontman for LCD Soundsystem, over two days around the time of the American rock band’s final gig.
Vice is hungry for content after recently launching its 24-hour TV channel, Viceland, in the US and Canada, with a UK version confirmed to arrive later this year. Spike Jonze, the Oscar-winning writer and director and creative director for Vice, will oversee the development of Viceland.
Earlier this month Vice announced plans to expand its operations into Russia and other countries in eastern Europe.
Pulse Films, which was founded in 2005 by Thomas Benski and Marisa Clifford, employs 130 people with offices in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Berlin.
While Vice is looking to establish itself further in the UK, Pulse has been looking to develop its presence in the US. Last year Pulse launched a joint enterprise to produce comedy-led branded content with American production outfit Merman, whose talent roster includes Chris O’Dowd, the star of The IT Crowd.
Benski said: "This deal will bolster our respective commitment to create relevant, brave and popular films, TV shows and digital content.
"Leveraging our complimentary skills, talent and resources will not only amplify our output and reach but provide us the resources and freedom to continue to grow while retaining our culture and identity."

Madeleine McCann's disappearance haunts resort
Scarred by Madeleine McCann's disappearance 10 years ago, the seaside resort town of Praia da Luz in southern Portugal is struggling to shake off the mystery surrounding the British toddler.

Scarred by Madeleine McCann's disappearance 10 years ago, the seaside resort town of Praia da Luz in southern Portugal is struggling to shake off the mystery surrounding the British toddler.
"The residents are all fed up... 10 years later we want to forget all this. It's a shame that this case shed a bad light on this lovely place, it's totally unfair," says Ron Clark, a 68-year-old retired British soldier.
"Praia da Luz doesn't deserve this. There has been too much fake news," said David S. Jones, 72, a writer from London who has lived there for 45 years.
Many British expatriates in the city gather in the shady courtyard of the Baptista supermarket, spending mornings buried in British newspapers and drinking tea.
But the subject of "Maddie" rouses the group, interrupting the calm routine.
About 200 metres away (650 feet), the blinds of apartment 5A at the Ocean Club hotel complex are closed. Madeleine disappeared from one of the apartment's rooms on May 3, 2007, days before her fourth birthday, while her parents were having dinner with friends in a nearby restaurant.
Was it a kidnapping? An accidental death? Homicide? After ten years, hundreds of hours of questioning and numerous searches, the case remains a mystery to Portuguese police and Scotland Yard.
The girl's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, say they are convinced their daughter was kidnapped and have vowed to do "whatever it takes" to find her.
British police scaled back their search in 2015 after launching a new investigation in 2011.
Scotland Yard said this month that they were still pursuing "critical" lines of inquiry.
'Stolen time'
The tenth anniversary of her disappearance is a "horrible marker of time, stolen time", Kate McCann wrote on Facebook.
There are no more photos of the blonde girl on Praia da Luz's cobblestone streets or near the whitewashed church frequented by the McCanns.
"We haven't forgotten her. We still pray for Maddie every Sunday as we do for all missing children," says John Payne, 76, a member of the Anglican parish.
The only visible trace is on some traffic signs, where "STOP McCann circus" is spray-painted in stencilled white letters, reflecting the frustrations of many in the city.
The McCanns seem to have few supporters in the ancient fishing village in Portugal's southern region of Algarve. It is a slice of paradise for the overwhelmingly British population, which makes up two-thirds of the town's 3,500 inhabitants.
The huge amount of media attention spooked vacationers, especially families with young children, in the years after the girl's disappearance.
"The hotel sector suffered for three or four years. The Ocean Club lost a lot of clients, which had a ricochet effect on other hotels too," says the town's deputy mayor Nuno Luz.
The Ocean Club laid off workers, Luz said, paring staff levels back to just 20 employees from 400.
"But meanwhile, tourism has returned to normal levels," he said.
Mystery tours
Holiday-makers stroll along the palm-lined promenade that borders a sandy beach where children play on a cloudy day ahead of the high tourist season.
"It's a safe place. I have been coming here regularly with my children aged of seven, five and two years," says Jo White, a 38-year-old Briton with a big smile.
There are some tourists, however, who want to know more about the mystery.
One British resident in his sixties is engrossed by the story, and offers guided tours for the curious
.
"It's not a tourist tour but I am showing places of interest to experts of the Maddie case," says the man, who declines to give his name but says he does not accept any money for the tours.
His tour starts in front of the apartment where the McCanns had been staying, and continues along the street where a man was reportedly seen carrying a child the night of the disappearance.
It eventually leads to scrubland surrounded by villas and apartments where police searched for the child's body in 2014. Horses graze there today.
Facing criticism over his tours, which strike many as morbid, the guide stands his ground.
"I would like to help to resolve the case," he says.

...which was published on 13 October 2014, days after Brenda Leyland's suicide.
The video was produced by one of Sonia Poulton's two cameramen, both of who, together with Sonia Poulton, marched on to the McCanns' property, with Kate McCann obligingly opening her front door to them.
The first part of the video is simply a showing of the Goncalo Amaral documentary.
Then, at 51 mins 30 secs, we get cameraman Alan Taylor-Shearer introducing another cameraman, Dave Eden. The two of them used to operate under such titles as 'Community Press Group' or 'Awake Radio' and 'Live Pulse News'. They all seem to have since sunk without trace years ago.
UNQUOTE
It's been suggested that Netflix/Pulse Films might be preparing to show the alleged documentary put together by Sonia Poulton and her two cameramen, Dave Eden and Alan Taylor-Shearer.
I very much doubt it.
Nor can I see Netflix/Pulse Films producing anything other than a film which rehearses the official version of what happened to Madeleine, perhaps with some new 'twist' with no proof whatsoever along the lines of 'her body is in a well', 'she was dumped at sea', 'buried in the roadworks', 'she wandered off' etc. etc. Or maybe it will be a now-dead digger driver as per Ben Needham.
No way will the Directors of Netflix/Pulse Films go anywhere near to upsetting the official 'truth'.

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Ps.
"Shut Up and Play the Hits, a documentary film that followed James Murphy, the frontman for LCD Soundsystem"
is amazing if you are a fan of the LCD Soundsystem. My mate worked on some of the post production.

It was this bit snipped from Get'emGoncalo's post that set my mind a wandering..
The McCann series will be produced by UK based company Pulse Films. At this early stage there's no firm details on how soon we can expect the series...
Back to the drawing board.

Just go on YouTube there are quite a few good documentaries on this, and unfortunately for the Mccanns they are not potrayed in a positive way. Who knows so I'll keep an open mind on this.

They didn't find a third party. After extensive investigation. You would not in your right mind leave three children under three 400M away in a foreign country alone so you can party. It stinks.

Hopefully it will cast a new eye in the context of the abandonment that occurred. Madelaines parents have never admitted their failure in duty of care to protect three small children. They are both doctors, as a doctor your who career sits around valid risk assessments. On what planet do you leave three children under three in an apartment, in another country so you can party all evening. Don't you say ok its my turn this evening, you go enjoy ..or get a baby sitter. And they know that . So that raises a question. Why did they do it. They have never admitted culpability for abandonment because they are too arrogant or because admitting culpability might lay them open to other more serious questions. Given that a third party has never been found. Surely the focus of attention should be a clarification of why they abandoned their children. In many countries in including the USA what they did was abandonment. There could have been any other number of ithings, madeleine could have woken up when her siblings were crying, gas leak, fire to name three. A professional you measure the risks, how was a mitigation of one parent going back every 30 minutes acceptable. Well clearly if their version of events, that she disappeared, is true, it fell very very far short. Ass an analogy if I leave my phone or wallet on my car passenger seat, your pretty sure that a broken window is the result and its stolen.
It doesn't make sense not to have atoned unless there was another reason. And that reason is that you didn't want the lens to be cast over you.

So your ok with leaving 3 under 3 years old on their own are you ? 400m away while your at a dinner party, clearly if that is the truth, which s you see I doubt, it resulted in her abduction, That is simply not bad luck. That is bad judgement.

Interesting that most people who have followed it from the start have begun to conclude that NEITHER of these happened. No neglect, and no kidnap. Something else. Accident and stupid decision being high on the list of possibilities.

agreed they are either completely negligent and unlucky and the third party abductor an absolute genius at covering his/her trail. Or they accidentally killed Madelaine and this was a subterfuge to explain away the accident possibly an overdose to help her sleep while they partied. I don't get it u would get a baby sitter or just one of you go. Doesn't add uo

Hmmmm. Will they ask real questions, or simply follow the "Official Story" that she was abducted on Thursday 3rd May 2007. Neither police force, nor the Public prosecutors, nor the court of Appeal or the Supreme Court think that is correct. There is increasing evidence that something entirely different happened, probably on the Sunday / Monday night.

Re: Pulse Films will investigate the disappearance of Madeleine McCann for Netflix
Well it won't be Metodo3 because they're all in the nick. It won't be Oakley International because one is in the nick and the other is in disgrace. It won't be Cowley and Edgar because one is off the planet and the other is in a hellish lair on the Algarve. It won't be Operation Grange because they're err erm hmmmm eeeek ....
Key figures? Otherwise engaged ....
The usual suspects are giving them their 'few millions worth' .
