Re: Helen Bailey murder: Fiance Ian Steward guilty of killing author as police re-examine death of first wife
A really horrible case. It appears the lady may have been heavily drugged but still alive when buried among sewage pipes by this monster. Also, her dog was found buried with her. Poor woman.
As you say GEG they are now looking at the circumstamces surrounding the sudden death of his first wife. It does not auger well.
The capacity for human evil and deception is a constant source of appalled amazement to me.

Helen Bailey trial: How her mobile phone gave Ian Stewart away
IAN Stewart thought he had got away with the perfect murder
But a series of blunders convinced detectives he was the killer.
Stewart slipped up by keeping Helen Bailey’s mobile phone after telling police she had it with her when she vanished.
Five days after killing her he went to her seaside retreat in Broadstairs, Kent, supposedly to check if she was there.
But he took her iPhone with him and computer equipment in the cottage automatically connected with the device.
Stewart also consistently slipped sleeping pills in her food so it would be easier to suffocate her.
But he failed to realise traces of the drug would still be found in her hair long after her death.
The killer also blundered in his 999 call to report her “missing”.
When detectives examined the transcript of the call, they realised he referred to Ms Bailey in the past tense before correcting himself.
He made the same mistake while talking to a community psychiatric nurse at his home.
Phone pings
Sedation detectable in hair samples.
Referring to her in the past tense
Have we seen this anywhere else ?

Jails are full of people who believe they have committed the perfect crime. Usually it's something simple which they overlook which eventually convicts them.
There is no perfection, yet despite showing all the signs of being complicit, our dastardly duo slip through the net, free to silence all who speak up.
Strange isn't it, that the traits which convict others, are laughed off in this case as the ramblings of nasty trolls.

This guy must have been a sociopath or something surely? He didn't necessarily have the intelligence to cover things up well though.
I think it's interesting that people say statement analysis is not proven and pseudo science yet ordinary people (and police) pick these things up and it indicates foul play to them.

Sentence has been passed. 34 years. Just read the following on Sky:
"However, Judge Bright said he felt the offence was not serious enough to justify a whole-life sentence."
Honestly, what part of drugging someone and burying them, possibly still alive, with their beloved pet, in a cess pit , is not serious enough to put them away for life?
If I were a judge those words would not pass my lips. Whatever must that make her relatives feel like?

Re; Helen Bailey Murder by Ian Steward
I send Empathy and Sympathy to Jamie and Oliver over the possible demise of their Mother Diane Steward and hope that Helen Bailey may Rest in Ever lasting Peace.
There is something wrong with Humanity to commit such vile acts and hope to get away with their Crimes, the Judgement issued may not seem Harsh enough of Thirty four Years and may have received a life sentence, but it is unlikely that this person will never be freed back into Society?
Ian Steward has possibly ruined the lives of his Son's after his conviction for the Murder of Helen Bailey and they may never know of what happened to their Mother Diane!

p
Quite a coincidence that his defence was that her death was an abduction, by two people who couldn't be traced, & that it had gone wrong.willowthewisp wrote:I send Empathy and Sympathy to Jamie and Oliver over the possible demise of their Mother Diane Steward and hope that Helen Bailey may Rest in Ever lasting Peace.

It's very easy to slip up under the pressure of an interview as the clips below of Gerry's sister demonstrates.ChippyM wrote:This guy must have been a sociopath or something surely? He didn't necessarily have the intelligence to cover things up well though.

Many times when I was conducting an IUC I felt as though I should have had Bob Danvers-Walker's gong to bash every time the suspect dropped themselves in the mire.

But it shouldn't be confusing if you look at all the evidence which leads to the only logical conclusion which has to be that they're being protected at the highest level.JohnyT wrote:....yes but a lot of the time they don't seem to deliberately hide things.......this is what confuses me.JRP wrote:Jails are full of people who believe they have committed the perfect crime. Helen Bailey: Murderer of children's author 'arrested over 2010 death of first wife'
Ian Stewart is reportedly under investigation over the death of Diane Stewart
· Shehab Khan @shehabkhan 3 days ago
The murderer of children’s author Helen Bailey has been arrested over the death of his first wife in 2010, it has been reported.
Ian Stewart from Bedford was questioned in connection with the death of Diane Stewart in Cambridgeshire, a year after he was convicted of Bailey’s murder and Ms Stewart’s case was subsequently reopened.
The 57-year-old who was jailed for murdering his fiancee, Ms Bailey, in 2016, is now under investigation for the death of Ms Stewart, who was found in the garden of the house she shared with Stewart in June 2010.
An inquest at the time concluded she died of natural causes as a result of epilepsy but on 22 August Hertfordshire Police said a man had been arrested and then released under investigation.
A spokesperson said: “Detectives from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit have arrested a man following a re-examination of 47-year-old Diane Stewart’s death at her home in Bassingbourn on 25 June 2010.
“The 57-year-old man from Bedford was arrested on Tuesday 21 August and questioned on suspicion of murder before being released under investigation.”
Stewart was jailed for 34 years at St Albans Crown Court for smothering Ms Bailey.
