Updates
Statement 5th October 2010
We were told last night of the resignation of Jim Gamble from the Child Exploitation and On Line Protection Unit (CEOP). We are certain that he will be a huge loss to the field of child protection. Knowing how committed Mr Gamble is to this cause, it is extremely saddening that he feels unable to continue to lead CEOP which appears to be as a consequence of the proposed Governmental changes.

The search for our daughter Madeleine has been greatly enhanced by the work carried out by the team at CEOP. We would like to thank Mr Gamble for all of his efforts, both for Madeleine and for all missing and exploited children.

In this challenging economic climate, we urge the Government to remember the value of our children and the importance of the invaluable work which is necessary to protect children against the devastating crimes of child abduction and exploitation.

It's strange how they thank Jim Gamble, but not the two directors who resigned.

Just for info this is interesting regarding Sarah Payne setting up a Foundation and she isn't allowed to be a trustee as it would constitue a conflict of interest.

Sara Payne angry at charity ruling

(UKPA) – 2 days ago The Press Association

Campaigner Sara Payne has spoken of her anger after she was told she could not act as trustee of her own charity.

Mrs Payne, whose daughter Sarah, eight, was murdered by paedophile Roy Whiting in 2000, launched The Phoenix Foundation in order to help the victims of paedophiles.

But when registering the group with the Charities Commission earlier this year she was told she could not act as trustee as it would constitute a conflict of interest.

The charity was intended to provide a free advocacy service, supporting victims and their families through the courts and other services. She has now had to hand over control of the charity to another party, a decision which she said has left her feeling "betrayed".

Mrs Payne said she and two associates applied in June to the commission to work as 'unpaid trustees' of the charity. Once they had raised the cash needed they would step down to undertake the victim's advocacy work in accordance with the Charity Commissions rules.

She explained: "The Charities Commission kept on claiming that we were applying or inferring that we were asking to be 'paid trustees' and claimed that my work on Sarah's Law and as a victim's advocate, created a potential conflict of interest that they would not explain - but that on those grounds - refused our application.

"In the end, just last week, we were forced to put three different people up as trustees to get the foundation registered and as a result of being forced to do that, our organisation closed on Friday, we lost our staff and some of our funders."

She added: "I've dedicated the last ten years of my life to child protection and victim advocacy and against all the odds have managed to achieve so much and feel there is so much more I can do, I feel betrayed, devastated and confused that I can't be a trustee of my own charity in order to raise funds for desperately needed services that are just not available anywhere else."

A spokeswoman for the Charity Commission said The Phoenix Foundation had now been registered. She explained: "Before the registration was completed there were a number of issues that needed to be addressed, including resolving a potential conflict of interest that existed in the charity's original application.

"Charity trustees must avoid any personal conflicts of interest and generally are not entitled to receive any payment out of the charity's funds. Where conflicts of interest do exist, these must be appropriately managed."

I will publicly confess that I am not a fan or admirer of Sarah Payne and I think she was the wrong person to be put into the government as an adviser on child sexual abuse etc.. Having said that, my heart goes out to her over the way she lost her daughter - tragic - and all because Roy Whiting deceived a woolly-thinking parole board into releasing him.

As for this from the McCanns: "we urge the Government to remember the value of our children"...

...an image of nine adults very much 'into each other' and knocking back copious quantities of wine and strawberry daiquiris springs to mind - whilst anything could have happened to their three children in a darkened room - fire, accident, nightmares, suddenly being ill or sick, needing comfort mistaking drugs for sweets...and (if true) Why weren't you there last night when me and Sean were crying..."

McCanns fear child protection plan

(UKPA) – 1 hour ago

Missing Madeleine McCann's parents have joined the chorus of concerns about the Government's child protection policies after a top policeman quit in protest at plans to curtail his agency's independence.

Kate and Gerry McCann said it was "extremely saddening" that Jim Gamble felt he had to resign as chief executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (Ceop) Centre.

They urged ministers to remember the importance of the "invaluable work" carried out by his organisation to protect children against abduction and abuse.

Mr Gamble believes plans to assimilate Ceop into a new National Crime Agency are not in the "best interest" of vulnerable children.

The McCanns have a close working relationship with Mr Gamble, who last year launched a new internet video aimed at pricking the conscience of the key witness who knows what happened to Madeleine when she vanished in Portugal in 2007, aged three.

Mr and Mrs McCann said in a statement: "We are certain that he will be a huge loss to the field of child protection. Knowing how committed Mr Gamble is to this cause, it is extremely saddening that he feels unable to continue to lead Ceop, apparently as a consequence of the proposed Governmental changes.

They added: "In this challenging economic climate, we urge the Government to remember the value of our children and the importance of the invaluable work which is necessary to protect them against the devastating crimes of child abduction and exploitation."

The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) said it was "in firm support" of Ceop remaining as a stand-alone agency, while shadow home secretary Alan Johnson went further, saying the Government's plans "will harm child safety networks".

"Their lack of consultation has led to the resignation of Mr Gamble, who is highly respected within and outside of the organisation he served so well. His expertise will be badly missed," he said.

But Home Secretary Theresa May defended the move, saying: "The Government recognises the importance of child protection and wants to build upon the work of Ceop, but does not necessarily feel this is best done by creating a new quango."

Yes, I braved it !! There was a clip of the Saints, getting ready to sprint off on one of their charity runs (why that clip, I don`t know !!).
Then Kay Burley drooled over Clarence as he explained how very upset the McCanns were. They were good friends of Jim Gamble but more importantly, Jim Gamble was a great help to their campaign !!

Didn`t really take in too much of what he was saying, just noted that he was in Birmingham at the conference.
Luckily I hadn`t eaten, so no need for this :puke:

They've got some neck to come out with a statement like that after they left their 3 babies home alone which did NOTHING AT ALL to protect them from abduction and abuse.

Why are these two plonkers working so hard to be on the list of the most despised people on the planet?

If we were to make a list of all the dumb and dumber things they've done it would make your eyes pop out of your head....in fact a list would convince me that this whole thing is a hoax because I really can't believe that all this is real, including all the people who are associated with the McCanns. You just couldn't make this stuff up.

It's like the McCann's have been appointed to be used as an example in as many news stories as possible, because nearly everything affects the McCanns - they seem to pop up with monotonous regularity like emoticons in posts. That's what they are, they're real-life emoticons....they're McCannicons! Statement from Madeleine Fund re CEOP and Jim Gamble 110921

Does anyone remember Logicman's Hoax Theory - and has anyone got a copy? I tried to find it a while ago and would love to have another read of it.

thinking

There must be many reasons, one of which must be the fear of a loss of liberty. And of course a fear of doing manual work such as laundry, mopping and general cleaning duties are not something that some prisoners take to if they have had help with this from a spouse or a housekeeper in the past. Some people dread the thought of sharing a cell with a stranger. Of course, it may be the thought of never tasting a glass of New Zealand again or having a round of golf If one thought one would never again enjoy the cameraderie of the 19th hole, one would try one's damnedest to ingratiate oneself with all of those people at the very top of all the professions and cloak oneself with the media for protection.

And one would say to Hell with all those who would say that one protesteth too much.

Mitchell's role is a peculiar one without doubt. His main job is to look after the Establishment. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth herself would not dare trifle with the Establishment. The reputation of the Establishment is of such gargantuan proportions that we could only consider it in the same way we would consider Carter Ruck for instance. Quite dangerous and formidable and working in tricky areas, but with a job to do come Hell or high water.

Quite how Mitchell has found time to do all he has done over the years is an enigma in itself. Not for nothing was he nicknamed the Angel of Death. Therefore, we must realise that the McCanns or people closely connected to them are VIPs and more protected at all costs.

One read a post here earlier, and noted that a poster who does not post here had asked about a connection with Ecclestone in the past. One has always found it most peculiar that Mosley and McCann were outting their case to the PCC at the same time, but to note Ecclestone's mention today, will provide much food for thought.
