Man in court accused over murder of two girls aged nine thirty years ago

A MAN is to go on trial for the murders of two girls more than 30 years ago. Russell Bishop is accused of killing nine-year-olds Karen Hadaway and Nicola Fellows.

Thanks Jill, I posted on the Robert Wagner thread how Police keep a case open . I so remember reading about these two little girls disappearing and being found dead and I am pretty sure Bishop was the main suspect but probably lack of evidence got him off. Hope the McCanns and friends can sleep easy.

I know that polyenne but my point is the fact Russell Bishop was a suspect from the beginning and wasn't charged obviously through lack of evidence to secure a conviction. However, 30 years later he is being tried before Judge and Jury. He has spent the last 30 years thinking he has got away with it but always at the back of his mind must have been that thought of the truth coming out - and it's probably now. That's why the McCanns and cohorts will never be able to rest. Sleep easy Tapas 9.

One hopes that the McCanns and/or their supporters monitor these sites, and especially this one, to understand that, bit by bit, the machinations of that week are slowly getting picked apart.

He was actually charged with and then cleared of the murders in 1987.

Thanks @Amy Dean. So Bishop was charged and cleared in 1987 but he's being tried again in 2018. Didn't the Double Jeopardy Law get scrapped years ago in the UK? So Bishop can be tried again for the same offence - someone please correct if wrong. I don't know about Portuguese Law and I understand the McCanns haven't been charged with anything yet but it must put the willies up them - to coin a phrase.
