I can cope with that if it is heard fairly on both sides. It is this constant going for the money that gets up most people's noses. They seem to want to sue everyone. They even said the would sue the PJ at one time, although they thought better of that. What is wrong with having an apology. Money won't bring Madeleine back.
Except that banning books doesn't sit well with many people. But yes, I take your point regarding the money. They don't seem too bothered about their being perceived as money motivated.

Absolutely, DG.
Firstly, if someone tries to ban a book, it always looks as if they have something to hide.
Perhaps you remember Spycatcher by Peter Wright?
And I object most strongly when people issue edicts about what I am not allowed to read, more so when those people are the McCanns.

I agree noone should be told what they can and cannot read, what I meant was people might not seem them in such a bad light if they didn't keep going for the money, rather than an apology. I think I worded it a bit wrong

The McCanns didn't have any trouble hiring the best of the best for their lawyers, though

Why did the McCann couple manage to find the best lawyers money can buy, but are so shit at hiring detective agencies to find Madeleine?
I don't think it's just a mistake or that they've been misled. These were intentional choices on their part. If they wanted reputable agencies searching for their daughter, the McCanns would have made certain to check out their backgrounds thoroughly before hiring them and would have hired the best of the best to carry out this work.
Where their freedom is at stake, they spare no expense to find the best lawyers of the land, both in the UK and Portugal, to represent their interests. When it comes to looking for their 'missing' daughter, they managed to hire not one, but two detective agencies with questionable backgrounds, both involved in criminal activities. How strange!

It isn't strange at all.
As many have pointed out, finding a good lawyer is comparatively easy - finding PIs with integrity is very much harder.
And if you know of a good private orgnaisation for finmding a missing child, do post it up, there are a lot of people who would like to know of it.

Here's a start, and it doesn't cost anything

This is a non-profit organization that works internationally: http://www.kidfind.org/
I don't know how effective they are, but there are testimonials on their 'about us' page.

What about Scotland Yard and MI5? Or is that MI6?
As a US citizen, I'm not sure which UK government agency would be responsible for investigating and searching for an abducted child. Have Kate and Gerry McCann worked with any UK government agency, apart from the joint UK police/PJ investigation, in gaining their assistance in formally investigating the disappearance of their daughter? Or does Portuguese law prevent them from doing so? If it does, then how can they manage to use the private investigators, which are allegedly forbidden from conducting investigations in Portugal? Perhaps someone not blindly pro-McCann can explain it to me, so that I will be able to 'hear' them. I don't have a lot of confidence in the information provided by the pro-abduction folks.

Well there's enough of them on the board of directors now to do it. Old Gezza and Kate have made a career of it. Kate has gone from part-time mum/GP to company director. Its her "Job" now, she works "really hard".

Sure it was supposed to, but then some pro-libel and police-corruption group furnished an old bag lady with some badly made posters to stand on the other side of street from the court house and shriek like a banshee, not so easy to be private then, is it? Luckily, they were all left outside though while the sane people who had an actual interest in the proceedings, including the journalists, were all inside the court-room.

You'll have to take that up with the Media.
They were asked to respect their privacy but the media decided they wouldn't.

Who tipped off the media? OT but I can't believe Sky are allowing comments about this, they have not allowed 'McCann' comments for months
