strange
On the 3rd May she received a visit from her niece CAROLE during the morning, who said that when she was on her terrace she saw a male individual looking into the McCANN apartment, a situation which has been told to the police, her cousin even made a photo fit.
During the day nothing unusual happened, until almost 22H30 when, being alone again, she heard the hysterical shouts from a female person, calling out "we have let her down" which she repeated several times, quite upset. She then saw that it was the mother of little Madeleine who was shouting furiously. Upon leaning over the terrace, after having seen the mother, she asked the father, GERRY, what was happening to which he replied that a small girl had been abducted. When asked, she replied that she did not leave her apartment, just spoke to GERRY from her balcony, which had a view over the terrace of the floor below. She found it strange that when GERRY said that a girl had been abducted, he did not mention that it was his daughter and that he did not mention any other scenarios. At that moment she offered GERRY help, saying that he could use her phone to contact the authorities, to which he replied that this had already been done. It was just after 22H30.
She said that after the mothers shouts, she had seen many people in the streets looking for the girl. She also refers to an episode when GERRY was speaking to a policeman, she doesn't know what kind of police force, saying that more police officers were needed to carry out the search.
When asked, she replied that on 3rd May she did not hear any noise from the McCANN apartment, not even the opening of doors. She also said that before hearing the shouts she was watching television, as she often stays up late.

Yet at the same time Kate says that they were completely non-functioning. How could they be working hard in that case? How also is not physically searching compatible with doing absolutely everything?

Re: Quotes from mccanns and team...
When we went back to the UK for a family baptism there was an empty seat on the plane and Sean said 'that's Madeleine's seat'. That caught me. Because I wasn't going home, it didn't feel too bad leaving. It was important for me to go. The hardest thing wasn't being in the UK, it was to be with such a close family and for Madeleine not to be there. I knew how much she'd have loved to be there ... Despite her small size she just has this huge presence. She brings a lot of joy.
Amelie asked me afterwards, 'Where's Madeleine? I miss my big sister.' I don't know where that question came from, it could have been because it was a family day. She's obviously made that connection, she knows Madeleine's her big sister. Amelie will sometimes point at the Cuddle Cat [Madeleine's cuddly toy] and say 'Madeleine. Her Cuddle Cat. Looking after it.' She's probably heard me saying that.

Kate said: "The kids had a fantastic time and Madeleine was so happy."
But her voice fell to a whisper as she revealed Maddie had been due to take part in a dance show on May 4 - only hours after she was snatched.

Leaving the twins...
'Earlier Kate revealed she was so traumatised by Madeleine's kidnap she could not face sleeping away from the twins. She said: "We've become totally protective parents."' - Daily Mirror 28 May 2007
The next day, 29 May 2007, Kate and Gerry left for Rome on the first leg of their European campaign. The twins? They stayed in Praia da Luz with Trish and Sandy Cameron.

So is she admitting they weren't totally protective parents before? - leaving the three young children alone as they claim they did is not my idea of a totally protective parent. Perhaps she means leaving them like that is merely being protective as opposed to being totally protective?
When the McCanns went off on the jaunts to meet the Pope etc, the twins were left with family members, certainly a more protective situation than being left home alone.

Madeleine's father has insisted he will leave "no stone unturned" in the hunt for his daughter as a businessman offered a £1 million reward for her return.
Gerry McCann joined by his wife Kate said: "We have now seen at first hand how hard the police are working in the search for Madeleine and their strong desire to find her.
"We are doing absolutely everything to assist the police with their investigation and we will leave no stone unturned in the search for our daughter Madeleine.

The McCanns spoke at the press conference of their frustration with official efforts to find Madeleine.
Gerry said: "We've met three separate home secretaries, and we're still not sure what the government has actually done."
Kate added: "When you're in a position such as the prime minister, you have a responsibility. If you're not willing to work for a child, you have to ask: who are you working for?"

Publishing the McCanns' words of wisdom
Somehow I think that it would be very hard to get such a book published - I wonder how long it would last on Amazon before being Carter-Rucked? I also wonder how long it will be before the expression Carter-Rucked officially enters dictionaries and reference books with the meaning of shutting up those who dare to speak out against injustice?

Katie, you forgot Madeleine. Again.
"Others have seized the opportunity to profit from our agony by writing books on your daughter, several of them claiming to reveal "what really happened". Which is extraordinary, given that the only person who knows this is the person who abducted her on 3rd may 2007"
Katie, why wouldn't Madeleine know if she is as you repeatedly claim, alive?

Re: Quotes from mccanns and team...
Just reading through the first reactions/comments from McCann & friends from May 3rd and this one says it all really....
A woman friend of the McCanns - one of their holiday party of nine adults and eight children - said: "We went for dinner at 8.45pm in a restaurant near the apartments as we've done every night.
"A parent from each family went back to check on the children every half hour.
"Someone checked at 9.15. But when Kate went later Madeleine had gone.
"The window shutters, which had been closed since we arrived on Saturday, were open along with the window. They can be opened from the outside.
"The window opens on to a car park. The door to the room was shut. It looks as if someone has come through the window and possibly left through the door."
This is a very interesting quote atributed to 'a woman friend of the McCanns'. Although the woman friend is unnamed, judging by the time they say they arrived at the tapas restaurant, it is most likely this was Rachael Oldfield speaking. Fiona Payne and Diane Webster are not believed to have arrived until 8.55pm. It is interesting for 6 reasons:
1) Before Jane Tanner's appearance on Panorama in November, this was the only quote to come from a tapas group member that specifically spoke about the events of that night, May 3rd.
2) It clearly implies that the last check was done at 9.15pm, before Kate discovered Madeleine missing at 10.00pm. This fits in with Gerry's check at 9.05pm but would appear to cast doubt on Matthew Oldfield's alleged check at 9.30pm.
3) She states how the window shutters which 'had been closed since we arrived on Saturday, were open along with the window'. This makes it even more remarkable that, on 6 separate occasions, members of the group walked past them and didn't see, or register, they were wide open and supposedly damaged. Jane Tanner walked past 3 times, Russell O'Brien walked past twice and Matthew Oldfield allegedly stood in the apartment , at the entrance to the room, and had a 'cursory' look inside. The window, behind the shutter, would almost certainly have needed to be forced or smashed to gain entry - there was no evidence of any forced entry anywhere in the apartment.
4) She states that the window shutters 'can be opened from the outside' but we know this to be incorrect. It is impossible to open the shutters from the outside. The shutters are made from heavy metal and are ratcheted so they can only be opened from the inside the apartment.
5) She continues: 'The door to the room was shut'. This clearly contradicts Kate's later story that the door had been open. Kate stated that she immediately knew there had been an abduction because, as she opened the patio doors, the door slammed shut when the wind whistled through the apartment.
6) She reaffirms the version of events reported in the immediate phone calls to Kate and Gerry's family/friends, that the 'abductor' entered through the window and escaped by the front door. Yet, we are now led to believe that the abductor entered through open patio doors and escaped by the window. How could she get this so wrong when she was actually there?

Re: Quotes from mccanns and team...
So the McCanns do not condemn the activities of people grabbing an 8 year old girl from her family in an Indian market. They also do not show 'any' remorse for the employees at Mark Warner either who have since lost theirs jobs due to their little abduction hoax. Instead GM goes back 2 years on strutting around like a king getting in as many photo opportunities as poss, to watch a reconstruction with actors, when they could have done this reconstruction themselves nearly 2 years prior and left this community to rebuild itself and reputation. they don't show any thanks or gratitude for the employees for their efforts and care in trying to help in May 2007! Nor for the big negative impact their scam has caused to this community. With millions sitting in the fund, wouldn't it be the decent thing to do to contribute some financial help to those employees who have lost their jobs because of them as a thank you and compensation, instead of using the fund to pay lawyers to crush anyone with a different opinion to theirs and pay their mortgage. Would it be a decent thing to offer some compensation from the fund to the poor terrified family in India as a sorry. The quotes below reflect what the employees feel about the McCanns which I totally support them on
"We worked from 8.30 a.m. until midnight just to protect them. We did everything, we helped with the searches, we looked everywhere, we never let the journalists in and this is how we are thanked", a former reception worker laments. She accuses Kate and Gerry of having created serious financial difficulties for the company by scaring tourists away with the media circus that they created, and of promoting a bad environment.
"Gerry didn't want to come here when the Polícia Judiciária contacted him. Why does he come now? Does he want to push this place even lower than it already is? Hasn't he realised yet that we live off tourism? There are 21 ruined families. It looks like he is mocking us", she accuses. As there are no doubts that the case has weakened tourism, they consider the possibility of suing the couple. "We hurt nobody, all we want is our work, to be left alone and that the tourists return. Mr McCann should disappear from here for good. We've had enough of him". In 2007, 130 persons worked at the Ocean Club. Two years later, the number was down to 48. Now, 21 have been dismissed, and the ones that remain fear a similar outcome."
"Go home" and "let us live in peace" were some of the sentences that some residents of Praia da Luz shouted at Gerry and the team that is producing the documentary, which will be broadcast worldwide. "What are they doing here? They didn't help the police when they should have, and now they put on this show to ruin our lives even further", an upset resident who didn't wish to be identified told Correio da Manhã, fearing reprisals, because she realises that the couple "are very powerful".
