I think you'll get fobbed off Tony.

They won't give details of an ongoing investigation.

When this is dead in the water I think they will have to answer.

BlueBag wrote:I think you'll get fobbed off Tony.

You couldn't be more wrong.

They have given us multiple details for four years:

* Innumerable 'suspects' and 'persons of interest'
* A dozen people publicly named who were summoned to give interviews under caution
* The lead suspect, 'Tannerman', revealed to be a bloke supposedly carrying his daughter home from a night crèche without a buggy and clad only in pyjamas
* Detailed statistics about numbers of leads, lines of enquiry, suspects, persons of interest, sex offenders to be investigated, documents to be studied, mobile 'phone to be checked etc. etc.
* Moving the timeline for the abduction from 9.10 to 9.15pm to 9.10 to 10.00pm, allowing 'more time for the abduction'
* Numerous press conferences and statements about burglaries and incidences of sexual assault along the Algarve
* Stories promoted about 'smelly bin ban', 'tractor man', 'the soothing couple' etc.
* A bogus reconstruction on BBC Crimewatch
* Two different e-fits of a suspect which had gathered dust for five-and-a-half years
* Details of rogatory request
* News of visits to Portugal by senior Crown Prosecution Officers...

...and so on...

Has there ever been a criminal investigation with so much information given out?

Or was it all misinformation?

Given the huge international coverage of this case, and the amount of public money spent on its investigation, I think this question of mine is reasonable:

2.  Dates of all occasions when the Senior Investigating Officer, or other responsible officer, has (a) reconsidered the remit of Operation Grange (b) made a recordable policy decision or (c) given reconsideration to the necessary or appropriate lines of enquiry for Operation Grange to follow.

What is so secret that they can't reply saying:

"The remit was considered on the following x occasions and the remit has not been changed: " and

"Recordable policy decisions were made on the following dates: " and

"Necessary or appropriate lines of enquiry were reconsidered by the S.I.O. on the following dates: "?

I'm sure you will get fobbed off.

Worth trying though.

I wonder exactly how many FOI's have been submitted regarding Operation Grange. Sonia Poulton said she was awaiting the outcome of a FOI before publishing her documentary although she didn't claim to have made it herself.

Tony might be slated for sticking in FOI's and I don't think his FOI's are unreasonable. Tony isn't the only one on this forum and others who stick in FOI's. The UK Press stick in FOI's all the time about anything they want to know on any subject and feel they have a legal right to know under current legislation.

So come on folks, how many FOI's have been submitted regarding Operation Grange? Is there a way of knowing? It's not important who made them, just the number made.

Using “Operation Grange” (without inverted commas brings up 4k odd) and no date limitation as the search it pulls up 19 requests, but this is only the on-line ones. Tony is responsible for 11 of these. I don’t know of any way to search for other requests not in this system, although the Met’s weekly disclosures report on all their requests, but not searchable as such. Searches under McCann and other key words would no doubt pull up more.

That's interesting Doug D.

Perhaps someone media and techno savvy could enlighten us as to the '4k odd' and how to establish just how many FOI requests have been submitted.

Perhaps Tony could submit a new FOI asking how many FOI they've received regarding the Madeleine McCann investigation. It would show how much interest there is in the case.

Sorry didn't make it clear. The '4k' odd includes anything that matches either word so vast majority are nothing to do with OG.

Would you expand on that Doug D for the technically challenged (myself and no doubt a few others on the forum).

Let's get down to how many FOI's have been submitted re Operation Grange.

Without the inverted commas pulling the two words together in a search, it would look for either word in isolation, so every query into any police 'operation' would get included as would, say, an address that included 'grange' in it.

I think the only way we will get to a proper figure would be to actually ask in a FoI as suggested by hogwash above.

My request to the Home Office (see OP), for informaion about Operation Grange, submitted on 12 December, has still not been answered over two months later. So they are well out of time.

So I've sent them this:

"I am very concerned that it is now 2 months and 1 day since I made my FOI Act requests, so the Home Office is around 28 days late in answering my request. I do not wish to refer this to the Information Commissioner but may have to if I don't get a reply in the next few days. I want an internal review".
