A new photograph of Madeleine McCann – dressed as a pumpkin for Halloween – has been released by a campaign group, with the blessing of her parents.

The touching photograph shows a happy and beaming Maddie dressed as an orange pumpkin, wearing white trainers and clutching a cuddly teddy bear, grinning for the camera.

The picture – believed to be one of the favourites of her parents Gerry, 45, and Kate, 46 – was taken only three months before the then three-year-old went missing from Praia da Luz resort in Portugal in 2007.

The new photo appears on the Facebook page of the Official Find Madeleine Campaign, which is supported by the McCanns.

The photograph was released on Friday to mark Halloween, and appears beside three others of Maddie, including the well-known one of her clutching three tennis balls under her chin.

A source close to the McCanns said: ‘The photo which hasn’t been seen before has been put out as part of the campaign and is authorised by Kate and Gerry.’

The new picture is accompanied by a plea, saying: ‘Someone, somewhere knows where Madeleine is.

The Sun published this photo some time ago, ID'ing it then as Madeleine dressing up for Halloween. Clearly not three months before she disappeared.

I swear that child in the pumpkin suit is the same one in those weird Christmas photos featuring a "Madeleine" with brassy blond hair and a big, wide mouth with red lips and no teeth gaps. I think she and cousin Fiona are riding on Gerry's back in the photo, though I don't have a link handy. And I said it once before in a photo thread and I don't think anyone replied so maybe I'm way off base, but there's a black/gray scale photo from one of the holiday cameras (the series of photos that are all in black and hard to see); anyway, there's a photo of a child's face close up and it's that same mouth again. It's just my opinion, obviously, but I really think that child's image has been used to depict Madeleine in this pumpkin photo and that Christmas one. You can even sort of see blond hair in that black/gray photo. I don't know who it would be but it must be another Tapas child to appear on the holiday camera.

All IMO, of course.

The only known first cousins are Trish Cameron's much older son and John McCann's son and daughter, something like 4 and 7 years older than Madeleine.

This really is incredible though, isn't it? I mean, especially the Mail's stance, when they themselves ran the story all that time ago. If you pointed it out to them would they be surprised, unsurprised, nonplussed, angry... what? I just get an endless feeling, when following this whole circus, that I'm having my chain pulled, and I can't see how the entire world doesn't feel the same. Maybe we are the one eyed men in the kingdom of the blind?

Does this suggest that apart from the photos we have all seen, there are no other pictures of Madeleine in existence. Someone noticed that in a video of Kate Mc at her computer, the eight or so photos she had displayed were all ones from publicity campaigns...not a single "private" pic. Yet so many Madeleine photos are either photoshopped or weird or seem to be quite another person. Who is the real Madeleine?

Quite apart from the ludicrous suggestion that Halloween 2006 was only three months before May 2007, and the generally fawning nature of the article - (though we note that Kandohla is a personal friend of the McCanns, and that she is not noted for impartiality, nor accuracy)
it is seriously in error since the Daily MAIL, amongst several other newspapers, published this photograph in 2008.

One of the other Sunday papers implies that Mitchell has been responsible for planting this story - yet again, and is probably therefore responsible for the dishonesty involved.

Yes I well remember that pic and also a discussion on it about the gaps in Maddie's teeth, but not in the pumpkin photo.

What is going on, nothing seems to add up and how on earth could such a mistake be made?

There are a number of disparate photos from the UK of MMcC, also some familiar video clips
However, I don't recall seeing any videos of her in PdL, which surprises me
This pumpkin photo is supposed to be taken in the months before PdL, as is the one on the shetland pony on 13th April, ie some of the last photos before the holiday

If you believe that, your starting point should be whether there were any independent witnesses in PdL who already knew her, ie could say for sure she was there. Then you can work backwards towards the pumpkin
