DNA clears crucial suspect in Maddie case

Euclides, already deceased, was the reason for the reopening of the investigation into the disappearance

The investigation line that had Euclides Monteiro as a suspect, which led to the reopening of the “Madeleine McCann case” has fallen down. The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) bet strongly on [the thesis of] abduction at the hands of a sexual predator that attacked British children in the Algarve. But DNA tests dismiss the participation of the already deceased man.

At the location of one of the alleged sexual abuses, a sample of semen was collected, which the PJ already knows does not belong to the former Ocean Club worker. Euclides’ DNA also wasn’t found in the apartment in Praia da Luz where the child disappeared from, seven years ago.

The sexual predator thesis started to be drawn out when the PJ inspectors collected five cases of alleged abuse involving British children on holidays in the Algarve between 2004 and 2006, one year before the disappearance. Euclides matched the description that was given by some of the victims and had already been imprisoned over theft, employing the same method of home intrusion – without a break-in. Furthermore, he worked at the Ocean Club, and on the day of the disappearance, he used his phone in that area. He was the man who matched the suspect’s profile. Convinced that the identification of cases with the same “modus operandi” allowed to admit the possibility that they had been performed by the same person and that this person could be related Madeleine’s disappearance, the PJ requested the reopening of the case, in 2013.

The investigators knew that, in one of the cases of alleged sexual abuse, there was a sample of semen. They compared it with a biological sample that had been collected from Euclides, which was in possession of the National Institute for Legal Medicine. The man, we recall, died a victim of an accident with a tractor, in 2009, and he was subject to an autopsy, as determined by law. The tests set Euclides apart from the abuse and from the Ocean Club apartment. The investigation remains open, in the hands of the PJ in Oporto, without any further known developments.

The Polícia Judiciária will question approximately tem persons at Scotland Yard’s request, within the British investigation. The list includes former Ocean Club workers. All of these persons are being summoned for the first time, some as witnesses and others will be made arguidos, adding to the four suspects that were already questioned in July. The diligences are to be concluded by the end of the current month.

How unhelpful of the PJ to rule out Tractorman - SY's favoured pasty! Presumably his picture will now be put in a prominent position on the McCann websites to share top-billing with the also-ruled-out Bundleman. With MacDonaldman ruled out by immigration records, it is no wonder that SY have panicked and created 4 brand new, never-been-seen-before arguidos and a fresh batch of important witnesses. Witnesses that were so important that they have waited until now to question...

Article with the so helpful 'oh look, after 6 years still no photos from the holiday' gallery. Apart from the fake one that is.

It states the PJ bet heavily this was the bloke responsible . So did they want a match too ? .

This is good news surely ... but if the PJ already knew that the sample did not belong to Euclides, why did they not tell SY that?    I also thought the PJ never went on record to say exactly what evidence led to re-opening the inquiry....so I'm not sure I believe that the PJ were focussing their case on Euclides.

  Do SY want to retest to test this sample themselves and this leaking to the press is a way to try and demonstrate their line of enquiry is nonsense?

 Most of the reports on this case just leave me with more questions!

Perhaps the PJ are simply giving SY the finger by doing their own DNA tests and now officially ruling out Tractorman? Just as SY are about to come a-calling.

Bundleman - ruled out
Tractorman - ruled out
Macdonaldman - wasn't even in the country
Smithman - still kept secret on the McCann sites
Malinkaman - apparently no longer a suspect
3 other SY arguidos - not even worth questioning again

Nobody left to question? Not a problem - let's create 4 new arguidos.

Perhaps it was the parents after all...?

If true, it's another person ruled out, so surely good news?

What a long way for a short cut, eh .. I wish we knew what game SY are playing here .. it's like a lousy pantomime .. "They're behind you" .. or right in front of their eyes, as the case maybe .. but for whatever reasons, SY  aren't interpreting the PJ files the same way a lot of us are ..

At  this stage I'm getting despondent .. it doesn't look like the right ones are going to be held accountable but i hope I'm wrong

It's worth noting that the PJ are not at all on the same page as SY. They basically stood around sniggering at SY as they dug up PDL for an old sock. And perhaps they suspected SY might try to pin this on Tractorman with some dodgy DNA work - and so they have put an end to that by doing their own tests and releasing the results - just before SY come marching into town with their test-tubes and portable 'aha-ometers'. Basically telling them to find another pasty.

I think SY knew it was coming though, and having now run out of suspects they had to quickly generate 4 more, along with another bunch of witnesses. Given that the last lot were "prime suspects" - this recent bunch must have even less connection to the case than before...! Unless EVERYONE is a burglar over there?

 Hopefully just  a sign that they're being thorough. I'd rather that then end up with a situation , like the Billie Jo Jenkins murder, where the accusation of police not investigating another possible suspect well enough, formed part of a successful appeal process.

Well quite
If the first lot were the primary suspects, then the next were secondary, and by now we must be well past tertiary and quarternary . . .
