What do Anita Dunn (U.S.A.) and Clarence Mitchell (U.K.) have in common?
Anita Dunn (U.S.A.) is President Barack Obama's White House Communications Director.
Clarence Mitchell (U.K.) was, until whisked away from his government office to become the chief public relations adviser for the McCanns, the Director of the government's 40-strong Media Monitoring Unit (MMU).
Here's Anita Dunn boasting about how she and the White House control the American media:

It will no doubt be recalled that Clarence Mitchell last year boasted how his role at the MMU was:
"To control what comes out in the media".
Never before have the U.S. and U.K. establishments exercised so much control over our mainstream media.
O.K., so I've answered my own question.
So here's another.
Exactly why is it - what massive interest did the British government have in all this? - that the erstwhile Director of the govenrment's top media control department had to be whisked away from his London desk to the sleepy village of Praia da Luz within days of little Madeleine McCann being reported missing, and why has he remained almost full-time on this case for over two-and-a-half years?

There was Gerry McCann's phonecall to his old uni friend Alistair Clark, who it is believed has close ties with certain elements within the government.
Could it be that Clark dropped a few of the names involved down Whitehall way which someone recognised (from their past?), and several crates of Imodium were urgently ordered?
Hence the sudden and unaccountable arrival of Mitchell in PdL?
Still, at least Anita Dunn didn't have to endure Debbie Butler's phonecalls.
Those otology specialists don't come cheap, I would imagine ---

No idea, I would guess there are hundreds of them, not an uncommon name, who is the one referred to by baconbutty?

In Correio da Manhã (2007-09-14 ):
English: "ENGLISH GOVERNMENT CUTS WITH MCCANN
The first call of Gerry in the night of the crime was for Alistair Clark, a great friend of the times of the university and diplomat next to Gordon Brown. Clark made various contacts to the highest level and - before the Judiciary Policy - already the Sky News and the British ambassador were informed of the abduction.
Alistair, with whom the CM wasn't able to contact up to the closure of this edition, is today a professor in an university in Belfast, Ireland, and also an assessor to the English Labour party Government. Gordon Brown was at the time the Treasury Minister and the candidate to Tony Blair's position.
and from Blackwatch's thesargeants blog --
Gerry McCann's friend, Dr Alistair Clark (the man Gerry is alleged to have called on the evening of May 3rd) is currently senior Lecturer in Political Science at Queens University Belfast.

Gerry did call or is alleged to have called, both are posited in your post?
I'm not optimistic considering the 'newspaper' article is riddled with other errors.

Well we know it is NOT true that Sky were rung before the PJ (the evidence is in the files, written in big letters that anyone can decipher)
so that makes me wonder if any of the rest is it either.
CdeM have published a lot of utter crap.
