Portuguese police have kept the confidential file for years following a spate of break-ins in and around Praia da Luz, the resort from where Madeleine disappeared when she was three in May 2007.
Children were abused during some burglaries.
A businesswoman renting villas in the area confirmed: “Police have a special file on burglars operating in the area. Most of them are Portuguese and Romanian gypsies.
“Burglars go anywhere and everywhere in Luz and normally break in during the middle of the night when you’re asleep.
“Burglars come in and steal your stuff and sometimes you don’t know about it until you wake up in the morning.”
The woman, who does not wish to be named, said from her office in Lagos, four miles from Luz: “It’s been going on for years, well before Madeleine disappeared. Police here are aware of the problem but the public aren’t aware.” Yard detectives to whom the Portuguese break-ins dossier is being made available are reported to be focusing on three burglars who targeted people in Luz.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe disclosed last week how his officers and Portugal’s Policia Judiciaria are moving towards a joint investigation team and have the names of suspects.
Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, believe their daughter, who would now be aged 10, could still be alive.
Former GP Kate, 45, revealed in her book about Madeleine’s abduction that she had discovered five cases of British children being sexually attacked in their beds while on holiday.
She wrote: “It broke my heart to read the terrible accounts of devastated parents and the experiences of their poor children.
“British tourists in holiday accommodation were being targeted. It is so hard not to scream from the rooftops about how these crimes appear to have been brushed under the carpet.”
One British mother claims kidnappers may have tried to take her own young daughter just six weeks before Madeleine disappeared.
She claims that while she was staying at Montechoro, near Albufeira, 30 miles from Luz, a scruffy migrant from the former Soviet Union spiked her drink then tried to take her one-year-old blonde daughter to a getaway car.
The 30-year-old woman said: “It was terrifying, like something out of a film. I’ve given a statement to Scotland Yard and they are arranging to interview me again.
“I’ll do anything I can to help. I can’t be the only mum who has had a near-miss.”

Now all they have to fit into this ridiculous scenario is the dawgs. You just can't shake 'em off and you can't cherry-pick results case by case. They are either accurate or they are flawed. The evidence of the dogs will hang as a millstone round the McCanns' necks for the rest of their lives, I have no doubt of that.

And welcome to the stage the "Romanian Gypsy Child-abusing Burglars". Four suspect stereotypes neatly combined into one. And presumably next week, the local gang will also be discovered as "ex-employees (with keys)". You couldn't make it up. Oh - sorry - they have!

Next you'll be introducing paedophile manchester barrister man, back to Jane Tannerman now come forward as Crechechinosman, then we have the re-emergence of blacktractorman VIctoriabeckamlookalikewoman must surely be on the list somewhere. Must be really boring to the detectives on the case, they cannot interview the chief suspects so must spend all day trying to fabricate stories for the press.

Re: Sunday Express - Burglary files to aid hunt for Madeleine McCann
So...let's get this right...5 British families have gone to Portugal on holiday, had their apartments burgled, had their children sexually assaulted, had their complaints about these outrages completely ignored by the Portugese authorities...and then - have said NOTHING about such matters when they got back to the UK!!!
Well done Kate...very credible not.
I think the Express is just taking the p - choosing the most ludicrous claims to rubbish by appearing to support them. It must really p off the McCanns to have the Express papers picking up on these stories when THEY want to be in control of the news agenda.
I guess you might say the Express is in passive-aggressive mode.

Could a rich burglar engage Farter Cluck to issue a writ against the Express citing 'reputational damage'?

Totally agree - it drives me insane that the dogs and their findings are NEVER mentioned in the MSM. Do you think there is some sort of injunction regarding Eddie and Keelers findings?Mirage wrote:

If the case is 'solved' without any mention of the dogs there will surely be an uproar.

I very much doubt there's an injunction in force and I consider it unlikely the MSM will publish the late Eddie and Keela's 'scentings' unless and until this evidence emerges during the course of the trial of those who are complicit in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. .

Is Kate getting in first when she mentions the bed and sexual activity ?
I do recall something relating to the Portuguese keeping back a list of known BRITISH pedophiles in the area at the time of the 'incident' at the request of the BRITS.

Yep,
The Met's experienced investigators are 'barking up the wrong tree' with their 3stooges 'burglars' routine.

Its the British way of doing things.
The McCanns made the mistake of calling the police straight away. They should have carried on with their holiday as normal and flown back to the UK on the 5th May. Then two weeks later go to the UK police and reported it as a burglary.

This years Jackanory prize goes to
James Murray and Tracey Kanohia, from the Lazzeri school of Jouralism
Just when you thought that British Journalism could not get any worse we get this hilarious little gem
Burglars were regularly breaking in to apartments, stealing your stuff and sexually abusing your children, while you slept. Despite the noise and the screaming child, you don't know anything about this until morning.
Despite the vast amount of burglaries in the area, the public are completely un-aware that this is happening
A very privileged but yet again UN-NAMED woman, has been given the information that Portuguese police kept a SECRET dossier on these burglars that no other member of the public is aware of.
The Dossier is so secret that the Portuguese police have disclosed the information, confidentially, only to this one woman (the PJ must know who she is then) and to NSY who disclosed this only to the Sunday Express.
Well done Scotland Yard - no wonder the Portuguese Police don't wish to work with you.
Sir Bernard Hogan - Howe, Met Police commissioner whose honesty is currently under review as he is investigated over the Hillsborough Scandal, says that they are moving closer to a joint investigation with the Portuguese Police. This is despite the attempts of the British to ridicule the Portuguese in the British media with false claims of cases being bungled or brushed under the carpet, not to mention the lack of co-operation from the UK police in 2007/8 when vital documents (containing information of possible sex offenders who had free access to apt 5a) were being delayed for 6 months before being forwarded to the PJ and other documents which were withheld altogether.
If the British are not reporting these incidents until two weeks (or 7 years) after returning how do they expect the PJ to investigate them?

Re: Sunday Express - Burglary files to aid hunt for Madeleine McCann
There can be but one solution as to why this rubbish is printed at all.
Absolutely nothing to do with the McCanns.
It is indeed a big social experiment to test the level of intelligence of the British people, neatly divided into sections and sub-sections by the papers they read.
Obviously the creators of the experiment don't read any papers since they make the news themselves.
After nearly a YEAR of this kind of press ( this started in April 2013) saturation level must be achieved soon. A 95% probable solution will be selected based on the results of this year long experiment. Leaving Maddie more than 50% alive, thus legalising the Ltd. Co.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
If 'the man in the street' swallows this whole, it will be no problem to make them believe a couple of trillion debt isn't a problem for GB, climate taxes are fair and the EU is a fair, honest and just institution, working hard for the good of Britain.
But I live in hope - what has made me into an Anglophile is the wonderful bloody-mindedness of the British in general.

As I understand it, in the early stages of the investigation the PJ wanted to see the UK sex offenders register which is not available to the public. They eventually got the register on the grounds that it contents were kept confidential. In a recent interview, Goncalo Amaral, mentioned that the files that the PJ held back were files that held information on UK sex offenders. I am assuming that this means that the files not published contained confidential details held in the UK sex offenders register and were withheld to comply with the UK's request for confidentiality.
Re: Sunday Express - Burglary files to aid hunt for Madeleine McCann
I am wondering if the papers are deliberately printing these stories, which let's be fair appear to be complete and utter nonsense.
The parents have said in the past that they wish the reporting would now stop and that they need to have a private life (not exact quote). No way is that going to happen soon by the look of things.
I still can't understand how anyone can ask the media to help, then sue them and then help with a campaign to shut them up. The media are watching I strongly believe.

I believe the media are waiting.
The McCanns welcomed the media into their lives initially and then their Team have worked the media to suit. They have played them.
Of course the McCanns now say that they want them to all go away, so that they can get on with their lives.I'm sure they felt that after 7 years, that would already have happened.Media attention would be elsewhere.
But I'm afraid most people smell the same rat they did at the outset of this crime. It is now like watching a slow public hanging.

Un-named woman, Secret dossier, Portuguese police had not released it . . .sob, sob,
BUT
Kate knew all about it when she wrote the book - published in 2011, so she KNEW in 2010, or even 2009.
And she states that she found the details in the documents released by the PJ.
Unlike the e-fits !

So NOT secret, and in fact in the public domain for many years. One of the most concerning and upsetting pieces of information to emerge quite early was the record of sexual crimes against children in the Algarve. This discovery made me feel physically sick. I read of five cases of British children on holiday being sexually abused in their beds while their parents slept in another room. In three further incidents, children encountered an intruder in their bedrooms, who was presumably disturbed before he had the chance to carry out an assault.
Unlike the e-fits !

You may well have a point there and in addition to that, how many times have the Sunday Express reported, seemingly, in favour of the McCanns but placed the article right next to another article or headline that discredits the McCann article in some way? Then we have the news articles, supposedly having a pop at us truth seekers but directing the public straight to our websites, blogs and social networking sites.
The press are being cautious at the moment but I don't think that the McCanns are really in a position to sue, the journalists know far too much about the early days. All they would need is a headline saying something like, "McCanns set up by top police police dogs who alerted to 11 McCann related areas" that would cause the McCanns a few problems but it's hardly libelous.
What I cannot understand is the possibility of the Met Police jumping to the tune of Rebekah Brooks. She is obviously playing a major part in all this.
Re: Sunday Express - Burglary files to aid hunt for Madeleine McCann
Will this ever end. It's getting worse with each passing day.
For the McCann parents or their representatives who read here - Hogan Howe revealed live on air he has the names of the burglars who burgled your daughter. Imagine that. Seven years and there sits a man who can tell you their names. This is huge, surely ? Why are you not calling for immediate action ?
There's still money in the fund. Call one of your former investigators - are they all still incarcerated or are some still walking free ? They will cut through this EU red tape, no need for rogatory letters through that very slow Portuguese postal system (another problem with that Country, your post cards never arrive).
Get them knocking on those burglars doors and put us all out of our misery. Don't go at night though, the expert interviewed in the Express says that's when they go out burglaring and stuff.

TRACEY KANDOHLA:sharonl wrote:This years Jackanory prize goes to:
James Murray and Tracey Kandohla, from the Lazzeri school of Jouralism
LEST WE FORGET
A. THE PRESS COMPLAINTS COMMISSION FINDING AGAINST HER
Complainant Name: Mrs Gill Faldo
Clauses Noted: 10
Publication: The Sun
Complaint: Mrs Gill Faldo of Berkshire complained that a journalist from The Sun had sought to obtain information about her in breach of Clause 11 (Misrepresentation) of the Code of Practice.
The complaint was upheld.
The complainant said that the journalist, Tracey Kandohla, had turned up at the complainant’s house and pretended to the housekeeper that she was a friend of the complainant who was desperate to contact her. The complainant was abroad at the time but the journalist was invited into the house and chatted with the housekeeper about the complainant’s new home. Shortly afterwards an article appeared about the house including an estimate of its worth and details of its interior. The complainant found this article intrusive.
The newspaper said that while the journalist had not said that she was a journalist she had not claimed to be a friend and at no time was she asked whether she was a journalist. Furthermore, her name would have been familiar to Mrs Faldo so there was no question of her impersonating somebody else in order to gain information.
Decision: Upheld
Adjudication: It was clear to the Commission that, in not revealing that she was a journalist, Ms Kandohla had allowed a misleading impression of who she was to develop. The housekeeper had been given no reason to believe that Ms Kandohla was a journalist and consequently she discussed the complainant and allowed Ms Kandohla access to her house, something she would not have done had she known Ms Kandohla’s identity. The Commission could understand the complainant’s irritation and upset at the journalist’s behaviour and upheld the complaint.
B. MORE ABOUT TRACEY KANDOHLA
I spoke to Tracey Kandohla a few times around the time of the publication of '60 Reasons' (December 2008). She told me, inter alia, that she lived in Rothley, that she knew the McCanns very well, and that she would see Clarence Mitchell about once a week. Most weeks he would 'come and have afternoon tea with me whilst he was up in Rothley.
At that time, a film-maker had approached me about making a film about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. He had explained that it would be necessary to have the McCanns' point of view, and he said he would need to contact Clarence Mitchell about that. He said he would do so via Tracey Kandohla. On 10 December 2008 the film-maker sent ,me this e-mail:
Hello Tony,
I sent an e-mail to Tracey this morning and received an almost immediate response, she first of all phoned me at the office and then on my mobile.
It was the first time I have ever spoken to her, although I know of her, she is a practising journalist mainly with the centre-right tabloids, I think public school educated. Tracey was courteous and polite and offered to refer me to Clarence Mitchell in person, I am now looking forward to hearing from him directly.
She didn't seem to have any issues with yourself, indeed she remarked that you are 'perfectly entitled to your opinion'. I am long in the tooth enough to know this means nothing especially coming from a journalist who has in the past been in bother with the P.C.C.
At the end of the day if she is willing to play ball with me then fine.
I will keep you posted, [name withheld]
C. JOANA MORAIS' RANT MORE ABOUT JAMES MURRAY AND TRACEY KANDOHLA
Joana Morais was outraged by a story in 2010, by the very same James Murray and Tracey Kandohla, about the McCanns' new 'team of crack detectives'. Here's what she wrote:

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Re: Sunday Express - Burglary files to aid hunt for Madeleine McCann
Oh dear.
Thanks Tony.
Can this story in the Sunday Express be courtesy of a "helpful hint" by Team McCann?
It seems so.
Suitable for lining the bottom of the hamster's cage, then.

sharonl, Rebekah Brooks has already answered this, in a notorious text message once sent to the Prime Minsiter of the United Kingdom, David Cameron:sharonl wrote:What I cannot understand is the possibility of the Met Police jumping to the tune of Rebekah Brooks. She is obviously playing a major part in all this.
"We are all in this together".
In relation to the complete mystery of Madeleine McCann, never were truer words spoken.

At least there's no disappointment for a second Sunday running that there's no barmy McCann story in the papers.

Kate wrote, "It is so hard not to scream from the rooftops about how these crimes appear to have been brushed under the carpet.”
So, if she knew about this before writing her fairy story, why didn't she, as a former member of the caring profession, "scream it from the rooftops" at the time, in order to warn other parents who might be going on holiday there???
Is she now trying to blame it all on the cleaners - for brushing these crimes under the carpet.............?

The Express is having a laugh and ridiculing the police and the McCanns.
