Kate McCann has admitted that she will try to find it in her heart to forgive whoever kidnapped her daughter Madeleine.
In a moving interview Kate, 42, a devout Catholic, says: 'It is hard to say but I would like to hope I could forgive. It would be a bit difficult. I just want to know why they have taken her.
'I always pray for the family. Most of the prayers are centred on Madeleine. But I pray for the people who have taken her and the people who know what has happened to her.'
Kate and her husband Gerry, 41, were among 450 people taking part in a fun run in London's Hyde Park yesterday to raise funds for the charity Missing People.
During the 10km run the couple wore tops bearing a picture of their daughter smiling and the words 'Don't give up on me'.
In the interview broadcast on Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday this weekend, Kate, from Rothley, Leicestershire, tells how she takes sanctuary alone in the village's Sacred Heart church.
She says: 'I've got the key to the church. It's kindly been given to me. It's a bit of a sanctuary - a refuge - and I can go and speak out, when no one else is there, and get it all off my chest really.'
She believes God is looking after and protecting six-year-old Maddie, who vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007 just days before her fourth birthday.
She adds: 'There are times I have got angry with God but my faith has sustained me and it has got stronger.'
She said having a child snatched was 'the worst thing that could ever happen to a parent. The pain is just incredible and I cannot help but worry about her.
'The wounds are less raw now and the pain doesn't go away but I am a lot stronger than I was a year ago.'
She says enduring her third Mother's Day without her eldest child is painful and 'a constant reminder that one of my babies isn't with me'.
But she vows to 'get through it like any other day'. She adds: 'I am still Madeleine's mum and always will be.
'I just want to bring her back into the warmth and love of our family.'
Kate was expected to attend a church service in the village to mark Mothering Sunday. She is due to be given a bunch of daffodils there by her five-year-old twins Sean and Amelie.
She adds: 'The twins are really positive and keep us going. I have a lot of hope that Madeleine is still alive but the difficult task is trying to find her.'
She describes Maddie as 'an amazing little character' who has 'loads of energy, is really funny and quite knowing. I want everyone to meet her'.
Asked if she had a message for mothers who are facing similar heartache, she says: 'Dig deep and just keep hoping. Surround yourself with positive people and don't give up.'

Everything is so artificial and stage managed.
Do the twins have to present Kate with a bunch of daffodils at the church ? Why not give their mum some flowers at home if it is the giving which is important ?

It's because they are narcissists and thought they are celebrities and the eyes of the world are on them. They bet....but not for the reason they thought.

Quite a few churches have small bunches of daffodils for the children to give their Mums on Mothers Day usually during Family Service,it isnt anything specific or related to the McCanns.

Why does she have the keys to the church? Is this something that the church does for all parents of children who have died as a result of illness or accident or is it yet another example of the McCanns being given special treatment?

I can remember, in the very old days, (showing my age again) churches were open 24/7. Anyone could go at anytime and pray and be alone with their thoughts. This of course changed quite a number of years ago, with vandalism and homeless people sleeping in them. I have never heard of anyone being offered the keys to a church since then, and I know quite a few families that have lost loved ones and have had visits from the priest, but have never been offered the keys to the church. It would be a huge responsiblity, especially if you were distraught etc., and might forget to lock the place up. I just can't see it somehow. I could envisage a scenario where the priest may say call at the presbitary (can't spell it) and collect them and then return them, then the priest could go back and check the place was locked up again. It just doesn't ring true imo.

I think it is quite likely that she may well have an arrangement to collect and return the keys. Perhaps her PR team advised her to say she had been given the keys as it would imply that she is trusted by the church. She seems to popping up everywhere these days, maybe her PR are working on improving her public image - theyl have their work cut out

Hi Candyfloss
I remember that time too when churches left their doors open so that those who needed to or wished to could go inside. It is another sad sign of the times I suppose that they cannot do that anymore.
I believe that Mrs McCann probably has been given the keys but to somebody who has great faith I wonder why you would need to pray or feel in touch with their God inside of a brick building to be honest.
Take care

I have always said that you can pray anywhere, it doesn't really matter. I would have thought being alone in Madeleine's room, would be as good a place as any. However, when I remember back to the good old days (again) I sometimes popped into the church, just for some calm and to light a candle. It somehow did give you a kind on inner peace. But, I am sure Autumn is right and that this is a PR thing, else why on earth would you tell the media such a private thing.

I have no doubt that its PR spin as usual, imo thats where Team Mccann have gone wrong right from the start insisting on telling the public to much unimportant stuff, especially Gez's blogg ie what they have for tea, who really cares, but for some reason TM think we are interested.
We have had a little too much of Kate recently, Im just wondering WHY???

Re: Kate McCann: I pray for the people who have kidnapped Madeleine
Yes good point Lilly, the last few weeks we have been bombarded with Kate MCCann articles, with Kate being much more vocal during interviews. They have always presented themselves as a couple before, and now the focus seems to be completely on KM. After all GM ran in that race on Saturday, and he was hardly mentioned, all articles about Kate. I too wonder why this change of tactic.

Re: Kate McCann: I pray for the people who have kidnapped Madeleine
I reckon it's to swamp google with pro-Mc entries. Put in Kate McCann earlier and had to wade through page after page about Kate's prayer, Kate's run, Kate's radio show. Expecting something not so good?

Yes change of tactic, for what reason though, Im sure we will find out soon.
What has a beginning has to have an end, and I really feel this year will be the start of the end for Team MCcann.

I think all the attn is being focused on KM because the pope is considering her entrance as a nun into the catholic church. :yahoo:
