I guess if any further evidence was needed that the BBC news and current affairs dept. needs to be disbanded this might be it.
To invite a couple, who have not yet been formally eliminated from the involvement in the disappearance of their daughter, onto a current affairs programme is utterly irresponsible.What are they going to lecture the British people about?
The BBC is out of touch and setting appalling standards.

Andrew Marr is recovering from a stroke. The programme is hosted by someone else at the moment I believe.

An interesting other guest is Sinead O'Connor who has a reputation of being a loose cannon. I wonder what she thinks about the McCanns?

She is also very outspoken on the subject of child abuse....but no, she'll be on there plugging something or other no doubt.

This seems like a mini McScamm fest, what with them trawling Siberia for Madeleine, they are busy people ! What a COINCIDENCE that the court verdict is due this week.

Eddie Mair does the 5pm news programme on BBC Radio 4, sometimes does Any Questions, and has been presenting Newsnight on occasions.

I expect this will be all about the McCanns and the 'Hacked Off' campaign pulling out all the stops to try to force Cameron into agreeing to their demands for direct government control of the media. As if they haven't already got Clarence.

Cameron just wants a new stronger complaints body.

For all those who do NOT want Gerry McCann-style government control of the media, there is Tony's petition on the Prime Minister's website to sign. It OPPOSES the campaign by the McCanns and 'Hacked Off':

Has anyone managed to "sign" the petition opposing press control? I'm getting a message saying that I can't sign twice. Needless to say, I haven't done so before.

Yes, all of a sudden, the 'Hacked Off' campaign has decided on a media blitz, with all guns blazing, the most powerful weapon in their armoury being, not Hugh Grant - but Gunner Gerry McCann.

I thought that the tipsy gypsy who told Raymond Hewlett he had masterminded the capture of Madeleine in between Gerry's long stop in the loo and Jane Tanner's sighting of a man (or was it a woman) said he had stolen her for a wealthy North African family? If only, if only, Wayne Hewlett hadn't burnt that mystery man's letter. Or maybe the mystery man can recall what Hewlett wrote on his death-bed? There are currently 1,325 signatures. It was 1,324 a few minutes ago

I signed it a little while ago and it went through without any problem. I did notice that the number count didn't go up when I signed it and when the email confirmation came through but I went back onto the website and the counter had gone up.

I'm reading this through my fingers. However a sliver of hope remains - (dare I say, window of opportunity may be jemmied open).

How apposite that the fates should conspire to bring together Kate McCann and Sinead O'Connor on a seductively cosy Sunday morning sofa to talk about, ooh let's see - the inherent wickedness of the world? the silenced voices of children caught in a wilderness of abuse and untold suffering?

Ms O'Connor has just unleashed an excoriating denunciation of Cardinal Ratzinger's career in covering up child abuse within the confraternity of the faithful. If she is calling the pope's resignation "His greatest act" I'm all ears to find out what his nadir might have been. Will she turn to Kate McCann and say: "Nothing compares to you".

I very much hope this savvy lady is up to speed on the McCann farago. It all depends if she's a one-trick pony or she has done her homework and joined the dots.

How strange Jean - I had the same message last week when I tried to sign. I just thought I had forgotten that I had signed it. So when I saw your message I went back and tried to sign again. It is still telling me I have already signed! I can't see where I can look at the list to see if my name is on there. Normally you can see who has signed but not on this one - unless I am not looking properly.

Why did you leave your toddlers alone again after they cried the night before asking "Where were you?" Why did the you delete a significant number of their mobile 'phone voice mail and SMS text messages before the police obtained your mobile 'phone records? Why did Gerry's brother John McCann give up his well paid job to dedicate himself to the search? Madeleine could have been found within days! Why did you never physically search for your daughter, as you admitted to Jane Hill on BBC radio? Why did you refuse to answer the questions from the police who were looking for the daughter you left alone? What did you mean when you said "I know that what happened is not due to the fact of us leaving the children asleep. I know it happened under other circumstances”. ? What are these other circumstances? Why did Father Pacheco say that he could not reveal all you said to him? Why did he add ‘The McCanns have destroyed me’? Why did you chose to ignore the findings of top dog handler Martin Grimes, when his dog Eddie alerted to the odour of a human corpse in these locations: four different places in your apartment, two of your clothes, one of your children’s T-shirts, on the pink soft toy, ‘Cuddle Cat’, and in two places in the Renault Scenic which you hired. Eddie did not alert to a corpse scent anywhere else in Praia da Luz. Eddie had never given a false alert in around 200 previous outings. Can you explain this? Why are you suing Dr. Amaral and Tony Bennet? They are only trying to find out what happened to the daugher you abandoned.

A waste of time I know, but ............some day it will happen. Madeleine will get the justice she deserves.
