He who released the balloons...
Support for search for Madeleine
Madeleine McCann has now been missing for more than a month.
People in Liverpool are helping to promote the continued search for missing toddler Madeleine McCann.
A thousand messages of support attached to helium balloons will be released later by Madeleine's grandparents Sue and Brian Healey.
The 4-year-old's grandparents live in the Mossley Hill area - Madeline's mum Kate grew up in the city.
The four-year-old was snatched from her bed while on holiday in Portugal's Praia da Luz resort on 3 May.
The local community want to show support for the appeal.
Failed search
The balloons will cost a pound to sponsor and all money will go to the Madeleine appeal fund.
The Chief Constable of Merseyside Police - Bernard Hogan Howe will lead the release of balloons on the highest point of Liverpool inner city on Mossley Hill Field at 1400 BST.
Portuguese police conducted a search of scrubland nine miles from where Madeleine went missing after a Dutch newspaper published a letter which claimed her body was under rocks there.
Officers failed to recover anything and that line of inquiry has now been discarded.

A new Metropolitan Police Commissioner who can boast on his C.V. that he once launched a thousand balloons - costing £1 each to sponsor - the proceeds of which were used by the McCann Team of Drs McCann, Brian Kennedy, Edward Smethurst and Clarence Mitchell ('The Famous Five') to fund corrupt senior Catalonian police officer Antonio Jimenez as their lead investigator in Spain and Morocco, who is now serving 18 years for helping career criminal drug-dealers to steal £25 million worth of cocaine from a ship docked in the port of Barcelona, and of course not forgetting how the balloons also helped to fund the £500,000-plus paid over to crook Kevin Halligen for his heroic efforts to
The 'Famous Five' know how to pick 'em!!
We can all sleep easier tonight knowing that Hogan-Howe will give appropriate direction and leadership to Detective Chief Inspector Redwood's Scotland Yard Madeleine McCann Review Team!

Oh no! bad news?
i didn't realise that the Met is in charge of SY? I jolly well hope not!. Wasn't the job given specifically to SY? Otherwise we will all have to write to DC until something is done. Perhaps getting that US chap would have been better.
O yes, and I want the archbishop of York to become archbish of Canterbury. A man who speaks his mind!

are the home secretary Theresa May and/or the mayor of London in any way involved?
If so, then we have a whitewash in accordance with the present and the last Government.

Re: Bernard Hogan-Howe new Metropolitan Police commissioner
Is there no one in the Government/Police/Media who are not McCann supporters and will do the right thing and ensure Madeleine McCann gets the justice SHE deserves?
Madeleine is the VICTIM and she is being totally overlooked in favour of the perpetrators.
What's the betting this new bloke is a freemason.

Re: Bernard Hogan-Howe new Metropolitan Police commissioner
I have just looked at The Metropolitan Police website, is too much to expect to see an appeal for information on the Madeleine McCann case?

Re: Bernard Hogan-Howe new Metropolitan Police commissioner
There is nothing on the entire Met Police website about Madeleine McCann except their very limited response to a FOI enquiry.
As Sharonl said you would expect the lead police force carrying out a review costing us £3.5 million to at least have an appeal on there.

Re: Bernard Hogan-Howe new Metropolitan Police commissioner
Not yet but seeing as Mr Hogan-Howe has already released balloons in aid of the McCanns suspiciously opaque fund - who knows now he is top dog.

Re: Bernard Hogan-Howe new Metropolitan Police commissioner
Did he release the balloons under the previous or present Government, as it might make a difference.
ETA The balloon release was in June 2007, so he might be under a totally different remit now. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A plain-speaking police chief renowned for his ruthless obsession with cutting crime was yesterday appointed head of the beleaguered Metropolitan Police.
Bernard Hogan-Howe, 53, vowed to put fear back in the minds of criminals after winning the race to become commissioner at Scotland Yard.
Britain’s new top officer faces an enormous task trying to restore morale in the Met in the aftermath of the phone hacking scandal, widespread criticism of the force’s handling of the London riots and concerns about burglary and robbery figures.

It's a very upsetting situation but I don't think it's the true reflection on Britain as a nation. Unfortunately there is corruption and crime everywhere. Besides I am very heartened to see that Kate didn't get to have tea with the Queen. It's not looking good for the Vatican either.

True, but unfortunately for whatever reason his mind seems to be in favour of the Drs McCann rather than looking for justice for their poor little daughter. He seems to have been a consistent supporter from the word go.

Far from restoring morale it has actually plummetted. Hogan-Howe is hated by the rank and file officers and is regarded as being even worse than Sir Paul Condon, which is quite something given his disastrous spell as commissioner.
