If there is any good news here, at least the McCann family is considering additional charges against Halligen, who is not expected to spend any more time in a U.S. jail since he’s already served a number of years while awaiting trial. He will be sent back to England next month, where more troubles await him.

“It is understood that Kate and Gerry McCann are now considering suing Halligen for allegedly fleecing their fund. He could also be arrested if the couple make a formal complaint,” the Mirror newspaper reported this week.

Can't help thinking that he knows a few things about them which would come to light if they sued him.

No, after a pregnant pause, the news will be announced that they have decided not to sue him because he has no funds and it would be wrong to diminish the Fund further with legal expenses that will bear no fruit. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Perhaps this will then get people to start contributing again or perhaps another 'bearded jumper' will appear from out of the blue and offer to pay the expenses for them.
Come to think of it, isn't wots-his-name from the windows factory paying their legal fees and didn't he introduce Kevin to them.
Yes, if right be right, it's his duty to pay the fees, he's to blame (it's never the McCs fault) so they have permission to go ahead and sue now, nothing stopping them and I'm sure Kevin's got a bit stashed away somewhere. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Contract/Agreement for Services, Invoice, Proof of Payment, Services Received/Not Received, Correspondence. That's all that's needed to sue isn't it?

He's so intertwined with NSY and Mi5, his limbs are confused. Try suing a guy under Mi5 protection, even CR couldn't manage that. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

No need to sue, apparently they can get the police involved. Let's wait and see if they do.

I doubt very much if the McCanns will go ahead and sue but hey, there is nothing stopping them making the necessary noises off, as per usual, to keep the public interested.

It would help the Fund too and money will be getting tight soon no doubt.

There is nothing simple where the search for Madeleine is concerned. Your post reminded me of a play I saw on Broadway a few years ago - Noises Off.

Noises Off is a 1982 [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] by the English playwright [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. The idea for it came in 1970, when Frayn was watching from the wings a performance of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that he had written for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. He said, "It was funnier from behind than in front, and I thought that one day I must write a farce from behind."

There is nothing funny about Madeleine's disappearance, there is nothing funny about any of it but there is something quite striking about the farce written about the farce.

Nothing is simple for the McCanns. Nothing - apart from 'knowing' that their child was most definitely abducted.

Post by sharonl 25.05.13 23:00

What exactly went on here? What exactly is Halligen accused of in relation to the McCann fund?

We were told by Mitchell that the McCanns had employed a top firm of detectives, Red Defence or Oakley International, "The big boys of private investigation, the best there is". Where did Mitchell get this information from?

These detectives were supposedly employed to search for Madeleine, the McCanns' very precious 3 year old daughter, and at a very high cost. So it is not unreasonable to expect that the chosen firm of investigators would have been very carefully selected after much research into their background, their experience, their credibility, reliabilty and their suitability for the position. References, credit checks and previous cases would have been looked at. So why did the McCanns not know that this was a one man band recently set up and with no experience of finding missing children? Did Halligen lie about his company or produce false documents, false testimonials? Highly unlikely as his company records would have been publicly available at companies house. So what did he do? Did he steal the money? Access the bank account and make fraudulent transfers? No, he did not.

Halligens' company was hired by the Team McCann, who not only failed to check him out to ensure that he was suitable for the job but also paid him a very large sum upfront when there was no need. These payments could have, and should have been staggered over the period of the contract to avoid such a loss.

Halligen overcharged the McCanns for a job that he carried out badly, but the money was paid to him willingly by team McCann who had failed to check him out in the first place.

It seems to me that what we have here is a case of bad management on the McCann side rather than fraud on Halligens side.

In short we have Clarence Mitchell telling us that the McCanns have hired a top firm of investigators, who they have not even checked out, and the McCanns paying him huge upfront fees even though they know absolutely nothing about him or his newly incorporated firm. NAIVE??????

I don't think anyone can really say this without knowing the exact reason(s) he was hired. He may have done exactly what he was paid to do and his fees reflected the nature of the job.

IMO ONLY!
I've never been able to escape the idea, that hiring fraudulent PI's is a subtle way for money-laundering. If I were SY I would try and follow the money-trail to and via Metodo 3, who claimed they got far less money than McCs/windowcleaner claimed to have paid. Swiss number account one wonders ... ?

Precisely Shubob. Without a contract/agreement, invoice, proof of payment and documentation it is very easy to dump a pile on Halligen, after all what's he going to say?

Yes agreed. Surely SY`s antenna would pick up that something odd is going on when both detective agencies TM hired have been charged with money laundering AFAIAA. Beats me why they cannot see what everyone else can see.

Halligen was apparently broke when arrested, so where did all that money go? Yes, he was living the high life, but surely not £500,000 worth - and he`d already received £2 million odd from another company he conned.

In total TM must have paid these PIs around £1 million for zero results AFAIAA.

All just my opinion.

And it is not just Motor-mouth Mitchell. The solicitors acting for the Fund and the Trustees / Directors all bear a responsibility to perform 'due diligence' before entering any contract sing the funds entrusted to their keeping.

yes hopefully that is all being checked out by operation grange. Probably fund wanted only dogy detectives it seems, since thats all they seem to have employed! they knew how to employ best lawyers and PR Media searchers etc so only spent time on researching what was most important to them it seems. Id check all the money out and all the people. would not assume anything before started any review which seems to be case here!Just because someone keeps telling you there innocent does not make it so, of course that's what there going to say and im not even a detective. Theres been millions of pounds spent and if all who were present night child went missing have not been requestioned cant understand it. they would be able to help most as they were there and able to answer questions to help

IMHO, I think Halligen was the perfect choice as far as TM are concerned, £1/2M up front then X amount returned in bundles, knowing full well he was a wanted man in America. Perfect.

Shame on Mrs for not laundering her clothes so well.
