“Perhaps Amaral had tapped into some kind of national subconscious desire for this to all just go away. The country was already reeling from a child-abuse scandal involving Casa Pia, a state-run institution for orphans and other disadvantaged children (when this finally came to court in 2010, six men, including a TV presenter and a former UNESCO ambassador, would be convicted) ..' unquote Kate McCann.

Doesn't really go well with: “Police don't want a murder in Portugal and all the publicity about them not having paedophile laws here, so they're blaming us"?

So what were these six men accused of? Not paedophilia, since according to our source Kate there are no such laws in Portugal, they must be in prison for other crimes. Stealing toys? Or were the children unsupervised and so these men are in prison for child neglect?
