Mr & Mrs Robert Murat: live in Lagos and had a 'fantastic' world cruise earlier this year
Robert Murat – update
Robet Murat keeps us all up-to-date on Facebook with details of his happily married new life with Mrs Michaela Murat (formerly Walczuk).
They appear, from his FB page, to have a new home together in Lagos, where he apparently owns a computer shop and business. By now, one presumes, he may have worked out how encrypted material ends up on one’s home computer – a ridle he was unable to solve when questioned by police about Madeleine’s disppearance in 2007.
With the benefit of his £600,000-plus gains from being libelled, and an additional £100,000 to his bride-to-be Michaela, the couple (they got married in April 2009) were able to enjoy a fairy-tale world cruise on the Queen Mary II at the beginning of the year.
Stop-off points on the cruise included Dubia, the United Arab Emirates, Capetown, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Naral and Durban in South Africa, and Fremantle and Perth in Western Australia.
“A fantastic trip”, exulted Robert.
His brother Richard Murat, however, lives a more humble existence, working in a branch of Tescos in the English town of Warwick.
It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good...

I'd certainly be happier if, in view of the unanswered questions about Robert Murat in connection with the McCanns, he didn't boast about the lifestyle that he now has.

Recently I saw Murat's behaviour described as ' a dignified silence'......

Murats and Smethursts in Lagos, 10th August 2012
Hi all,
I am just wondering if the Smethursts (Edward Smethurt's FIRST of his three families that is) called in to see the Murats in Lagos on their recent month-long holiday (their 14th) in Praia da Luz? - which, sadly for them, ends today.
It was only as recently as 10th August that the first-born of Smethurst's six children - Annabel - tweeted to the world:
Excited to go to Lagos tonight, literally having the best time ever in Portugal
P.S. I hear that Ed Smethurst is a fan of Pixie Lott!!!

Poor Madeleine McCann will never have the chance to go on a World cruise. I wonder if Robert Murat thought about that when he updated his Facebook page with his fantastic holiday news.
Perhaps people who have benefitted off the back of Madeleine should get their brain into gear before boasting about how rich they are now!

Fancy that!
My understanding is that Smethurst has rented a luxury flat in Praia da Luz for four weeks every summer since 1999, in July & August, but I don't know if it's always the same one, or they rent different ones each time. According to Dr Kate McCann's book, 'madeleine', Brian Kennedy ordered his in-house lawyer, Edward Smethurst, to 'phone the McCanns on Wednesday 12 September, and offer Brian's help. Just two days later [14 September], Kennedy & Smethurst and a team of high-powered lawyers met in London to discuss how to help the McCanns. Top lawyer Angus McBride drove up to Rothley to collect the McCanns - and presumably he or someone else drove them back again in the evening. As a result of that meeting, says the book, Kennedy offered financial help for the McCanns' private investigation efforts and soon afterwards set up his investigation H.Q. An informant has told me that this H.Q. is a house in Knutsford. I have often wondered about the exchange that took place between Dr Gerald McCann and Edward Smethurst when they were introduced to each other at the London lawyers' meeting on 14 September. Was it:Lance De Boils wrote:Any idea where they stay when they holiday there? Smethursts, that is.
Brian Kennedy: "Drr McCann, please meet my in-house lawyer, Ed Smethurst"
Edward Smethurst/Dr Gerald McCann: "How do you do?"/"Pleased to meet you" etc.
Edward Smethurst: "I know Praia da Luz very well, you know, I've been there on holiday for the past 9 years".
Dr Gerald McCann: "Have you? Well, fancy that!"

Or you could look at it another way and think good for him after what they put him through.
He deserves every penny - so what if he enjoys it.
I know I would.
Its no-one elses business how he spends it.

Re: Mr & Mrs Robert Murat: live in Lagos and had a 'fantastic' world cruise earlier this year
The problem is that it is by no means certain that he is in no way involved in the cover-up surrounding whatever happened to Madeleine. For that reason I would be happy for him to keep quiet about his good fortune now.
Interesting isn't it that the McCanns have shown no signs of wanting to investigate the South African businessman's claims that Madeleine is buried at Mr Murat's mother's house when they were so willing to believe the worst of him.

From: http://www.madeleinefoundation.org.uk/

Robert Murat’s interview five days after he received his £600,000 libel award:
Asked to comment on his libel victory, Murat declared, on SKY TV, and reading from a prepared text: “The newspapers in this case brought about the total and utter destruction of mine and my family’s life, and caused immense distress”.
Five days after Robert Murat received his libel pay-out, and while still an arguido, he gave a TV interview for the BBC. This is how the interview went:
Murat: “I would like to know why...um...er... I was made an arguido...er, because, er, sincerely, I don't understand why I was made an arguido. Erm, yeah, I would like to find out. I would like to find out.
[...]
The U.S.-based website ‘Eyes for Lies’ has analysed this interview, looking at the facial expressions. The full analysis by the ‘Eyes’ website (run by a U.S. lady) can be viewed here: http://www.eyesforlies.com/
In summary, the ‘Eyes’ website makes these points:
‘Eyes’ suggests that five day later, we would expect Murat to be showing the same sign of distress as in the statement he made five days earlier on SKY.
QUOTE
“We should see a man, who is angry, violated, misunderstood and unjustly treated”.
She continues: “Is this what we see when we watch Murat speak here? Absolutely not. What we see, instead, is a man who is enjoying the spotlight. You'd think in this interview that Murat was sitting down for an afternoon tea, and not a serious conversation about how his life was ruined. He is enjoying speculating and bantering about this whole scenario as if it had no implications for him, yet he readily acknowledges he is still a suspect.

Blind eye
Thank you tigger for bringing the 'Eyes for Lies' analysis of Robert Murat to this forum - and how very telling it is. But I'm afraid even this accurate analysis of Murat won't change the views of the likes of Olive_Boyle and Chatelaine who, Nelson-like, put a telescope to their blind eye and say: "I see no problems whatsoever with Murat's actions, I only see a saint who has been treated terribly"tigger wrote:QUOTE

Tony, perhaps it's because some people simply aren't aware of the doubts about Robert Murat, the same as others who only know what the media tells them about the McCanns.

Refusal
That's true of a great many people, Jean, but not, e.g., of Olive_Boyle and Chatelaine, who have mountains of evidence available on this forum alone to raise all sorts of questions...it's just, as I say, that there are those, even on this forum, who refuse to even consider the evidenceJean wrote:Tony, perhaps it's because some people simply aren't aware of the doubts about Robert Murat, the same as others who only know what the media tells them about the McCanns.

I resent that comment, Tony. I really do.
I have no idea why you would want to come down on me, as we [the two of us] have never, ever discussed Murat in detail.
And I would appreciate, if you wouldn't do that again, until we'd have had the chance to go into detail as to what a possible involvement of a Mr. Robert Murat might have been in the case of Doctors McCann. I have been on fora since 5 years and have a wide and ready knowledge about this case. I have my ideas, prognoses, and I have my doubts. That's not necessarily something I would vent at n'importe which occasion, but 'm always ready for debate/discussion/analysis/theory, if you know what I mean.

JD's remark seems reasonable to me, Spaniel.
It is most likely in my opinion that the claims from the South African business man are nonsense and therefore Mr M has no reason to worry.

Tony Bennett responded: Chatelaine, these are the facts:
1. Olive_Boyle said: "Good for him after what they put him through". INTERPRETATION: He's the wholly innocent victim of outrageous libels and deserves every hundred grand he can get
2. Olive_Boyle also said: "It's no-one else's business how he spends it
3. You (Chatelaine) said, emphatically: "I agree".
Unless I've minsinterpreted you, you agree with OLive_Boyle's view that 'they' put an innocenet man through the wringer, Murat deserves every pound going, and it's none of anyone's business how he spent it.
Now let's recall that this is about a British girl who went missing in circumstances which the spokesman for the Doctors McCann, Clarence Mitchell, described as 'a complete mystery' - hence the forum-owner's decision to name this forum as she has done.
Now let's also recall just one of the nine concerning things that I summarised about Murat on another thread recently, namely this: He lied 17 times when first questioned by Portuguese Police (on 14 May) about his movements between arriving in Portugal early on 1 May and 4 May. As is documented in the released Portuguese Police files, he changed his original story 17 times when re-questioned on 10 and 11 July - basically because by then the Portuguese Police had analysed his mobile 'phone pings and knew he wasn't telling the truth. He lied about his movements on the three days before the moment Murat was reported missing.
Despite the above and all the other items of concern - like the meeting he had with his lawyer and Brian kennedy and Edward Smethurst on 13 November 2007 - you agree that his £600,000-plus and his world cruise are: "good for him after what they put him through...and no-one else's business...".
I rest my case, Chatelaine, but nevertheless, as you've confirmed that you're "always ready for debate/discussion/analysis/theory", I look forward to continuing that debate [i.e. re Murat] amicably with you.

Tony, he got his money, that's what I agreed to. I will not question how he's spending it. That's immaterial.
I don't turn a blind eye to anything in this case, to the contrary. I'm just careful in stating what I believe or, as for that matter, what I imagine might be the case. I'm well versed on statements and PJ documents and TV and paper interviews. I know to a certain extent how to analyse statements and body language ... and the only thing I am confident in so far, is that "they" must know what happened. Nothing more than that. And as long as I'm not sure, I may post some IMO's at the max. And keep watching ...

This statement is absolute garbage. The real truth is, it was jane tanner who identified robert murat as the abductor despite never seeing his face. It was 3 members of the tapas 9 who 10 days later suddenly stated they saw robert murat on the night of the 3rd May, not one single person outside the tapas 9 confirmed this and said the complete opposite that he was never there, from various sources from the GNR to holiday makers! Doesn't take much intelligence to work out the set up going on here from within the tapas 9 group
The fact is the PJ followed what the mccanns and their tapas 9 group were telling them, the media followed suite as is their bushiness to report. This putting aside the UK government intervention. The fact is, robert murat NEVER sued the SOURCE...Tapas 9 friends and the one who committed the most slanderous and libellous allegations without a single shred of evidence other than a 'feeling'....lori campbell
Further, in 2012 robert murat agrees to be on a BBC documentary slating the PJ (thereby supporting the mccanns and Tapas 9) in April 2012, despite the fact that the sources who were solely responsible for putting him in this situation...... he is now on their side!
What changed the situation was the brian 'bulldozer' kennedy meetings in November 2007. This is the point when all parties concerned changed to be on the same page and together. You don't need to be an Einstein to see this, just rich enough to be able to employ a lawyer to tell the truth
You don't need to look any further than the Everleighs and Symingtons ...especially the Symingtons in more ways than one. Together with murat they 'owned' PDL and their motive is to protect it & their business for their own personal reasons, not to mention the underlying family ties

Re: Mr & Mrs Robert Murat: live in Lagos and had a 'fantastic' world cruise earlier this year
It's quite amusing to read JT's rogatory on Murat. She wants to say that she never identified him - it never happened, but she can't. So she fudges as well as she can.
Murat should have sued her, as she was the reason the PJ had to make him an arguido. They'd been following Murat and had tapped his phones, but had nothing definite on him at all and in fact Amaral wasn't at all keen on him as a suspect.
Amaral states in the book that the PJ were pushed in Murat's direction by the British and had no option but to arrest him after the identification.
The amazing speed with which the newspapers settled - the Tapas about 55.000 each and Murat 600.000 from 11 newspapers plus extras for his girlfriend and friend - is suspicious imo. Out of court as well whilst it could be proved that a lot of the material printed was actually provided by TM et al.
From the article on Murat :
quote:
As many noted, whilst Murat bitterly attacked the British tabloid press, he completely failed to tell his student audience that the McCanns’ chief press spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, was amongst those to articulate a possible connection between Robert Murat and double child-murderer Ian Huntley. Neither did he mention the McCanns having pointed the finger at him in January 2008; they had claimed that there was cogent evidence that Murat was a ‘spotter for a gang of paedophiles’.
Just as puzzling: neither did Murat criticise Jane Tanner for identifying him as the abductor on 14 May 2007, nor did he have a word of condemnation for the other three members of the ‘Tapas 9’ who had a day or two later positively identified him as having been hanging round the Ocean Club apartments on the evening of 3 May.
Clarence Mitchell had made the ‘Huntley’ reference to Murat. The McCanns referred to evidence that he was a ‘spotter for a paedophile gang’. Jane Tanner was adamant that he was the abductor she’d allegedly seen. Three others of the ‘Tapas 9’ claimed they’d seen Murat near the McCanns’ apartment the night Madeleine was reported missing - and tried to out-face Murat at a tense confrontation with him organised by the Portuguese Police on 11 July. Yet in his Cambridge Union address, Murat was totally silent about all of this.
Why? Why did he vent his spleen on the tabloids - and not on Mitchell and six members of the ‘Tapas 9’ who had so actively conspired to smear him?
If we knew the answer to this riddle, we would be much the wiser - and perhaps nearer the truth about what really happened to Madeleine McCann.
