Reviews 'unjustified' appeals by the family
by Lusa02 May 2012
The father of Madeleine McCann considers "unwarranted" criticism of the volume of resources allocated to research on the child's disappearance, which occurred five years ago in Portugal, claiming that the crime remains unsolved.
"I do not know if it is a justified criticism because, after all, there is a missing child that was taken to the family and responsible still at large," Gerry McCann said Friday, a news agency Lusa.
According to information made public, the British police has already spent two million pounds (2.5 million) and has, for several months, a team of 37 people focused on a review of all available information about the case, created after the intervention of Prime Minister, David Cameron, in response to an appeal by the parents.
In Portugal, although the process is terminated since 2008, the Judicial Police has also created a team at the Port to monitor the British research and review the case.
For the parent, "this is a serious crime that needs to be resolved and if not resolved there an innocent child who may be in danger and there may be other children at risk of abduction."
In your opinion, "serious crimes must be addressed and appropriate resources should be assigned to the investigation," adding that this should happen with other cases of missing children.
On the other hand, the couple is also convinced that the media attention that has surrounded the disappearance of Maddie has helped to a greater sensitivity to the society and authorities for these situations.
"I think some organizations have also benefited," emphasized the mother Kate McCann, who has participated in actions of raising money for some and that, from next year, aims to help one of them, Missing People.
The fund created by the couple to finance the search for her daughter was financially strengthened thanks to sales of the book written by Kate last year.
"Actually, that was the reason why we did, because then we were the ones to look for Madeleine, as the investigation has been closed since July 2008," explained the author.
Despite having forgone private detectives since the British police began working on the case, keep costs assessors and operation of telephone lines and website.
But Gerry McCann states that "once responsible for the disappearance is found, the remaining money will be used to help other families or organizations."
Madeleine McCann disappeared a few days before to four years, May 3, 2007, the room where he slept with the two twin brothers, the youngest, in an apartment in a resort in Praia da Luz in the Algarve.
The parents and another Briton, Robert Murat, were made arguidos by the Portuguese authorities in July 2007.
The July 21, 2008, the Attorney General's Office ordered the filing of the suspicions against the couple.

This is the same bit translated by babelfish.................
Apesar de terem prescindido de detetives privados desde que a polícia britânica começou a trabalhar no caso, mantêm despesas com assessores e o funcionamento de linhas telefónicas e da página na Internet.

I am not surprised at all. According to TM's own press release the fighting fund should be empty by now. I guess we will find out now who really had that little girls safe return at heart and the ones solely in it for the money.

Strange that not one UK paper has mentioned in all the articles they fed us over the last fortnight that the Private Detectives have gone.

Re: McCann PI's are no longer working for McCanns DN Portugal
So the detectives have gone.
Where is the money now going?
Is the large advance that didn't go into the last accounts to March 2011 now found and in the Fund? the serialisation money paid (£200,000?) by NI May 2011 should be in the Fund. Also royalties should flood in once the royalties cover the advance paid.
There should be lots of money now in the Fund.
No doubt the accounts for the year to 31 March 2012 will tell us a lot..!! They of course will be filed at the last possible minute as usual - so we have to wait until Dec 31 2012 and pay the fee to Companies House to get the information for this Fund that kate pledged would be accountable, transparent, blah, blah, blah.

Re: McCann PI's are no longer working for McCanns DN Portugal
I wonder if Edgar, as an long served and now retired DI, began to realise that he had been taken for a ride.
Did he ask a question ?
Did he realise he was being set up ?
Did he come to an understanding that he had been lied to ?
Did he tell TMN and CM to ****, rather than the other way round ?
If so, he may have some fascinating tales to tell.
And David, worth a lot of money to the Tabloid press.
A lot of money. More than your pension.
A real reward for what they put you through.
There is always the thought that Redwood may now want to talk to him. Two coppers, over a pint or two, somewhere discrete, ....
