PINK BALLOON DAY for Madeleine - 12 August 2012

There's less than 48 hours to go now before we enter 'Pink Balloon Day for Madeleine' - on Sunday 12 August.

Downloadable pink posters are available on the link. So far, 350 people have signed up to join the action.

I believe the aim of the day is to 'raise awareness'.

It will mark 1,931 days since Madeleine was first reported missing at between 9.30pm and 10.00pm on Thursday, 3 May.

They have been on about this on the official Madeleine McCann facebook page for a couple of weeks. It is designed to get more publicity (you have to buy the luggage tags) so is just as Olympics end.

Pam (loves the limelight) Guerney has been instrumental in setting it up but it wasn't her idea.

There certainly aren't any comments from her (not that I can see anyway) and the only name I recognise is that of Pedro Silva, that fine upstanding member of JATYK2.

Perhaps Pam is too busy tidying her sock drawer at the moment.

Her comments are on the official Find Madeleine facebook page. I was reading it before they announced the balloon release.

Pink mouth piece, pink balloon.,,what's next? Wonder are there going to be pink snoots on the balloon? Ooops watch out for pink snoot flying past your window.

What do you win if your luggage tag goes the furthest ?
I remember a lovely case many years ago when at the point of release one person managed to pull the label off and then sent it by post to a mate in Germany, who sent it back to the organisers, who paid out the 50 quid ! Brilliant, but I can't now remember how we got him.

I like it PeterMac! It reminds me of the time my brother was going to let one of those balloons go. He waited until the wind changed, so that his balloon would go furthest. Only trouble was a gust of wind caught it, and blew it into a tree where it snagged on a branch. And that was the end of that.

What's the big deal with the 12th August date though? That's what's puzzling me.

it is the closing ceremony of the olympics. high profile but not as high profile as the opening.

Just wondered why this hasn't been all over the papers?? Not like them at all not to latch on and publicise it. Anyway some photos here of today's Pink Balloon Day, it doesn't appear to have been very successful looking at the page...............

Now we know what Pam Gurney looks like - the footage is sideways on for some reason!

I thought that this was an organised event in a particular place but now it seems that the idea was for people to release balloons wherever they happened to be.
