Breaking News - coming up...SOON
Re-opening of the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine Beth Mccann jointly by Opoto & Yard.
I am in extremely good mood this morning.
Just read on the MissingMadeleine site from a very reliable Portugal poster that "the Jornal de Notícias announces that the Oporto PJ and SY are to reopen the McCann case."
Would that be to follow up pseudo sightings?
Err.....hmmm... you know...since team mccanns has not come out guns ablazing....err... you know ..shouting from the rooftop about this great news - errr..you know....it cant be going down that alley.
Hmm...it's eerily silent from Rothley Broadcasting House - we have not heard a dickie bird from them, not even congratulatory words for their "Fighting Fund' in house lawyer, Edward Smethurst. zee. Even though this representation has been regarded as contributing to ED's achievements since this got mentioned.
Let's see how long before they wheel out their pinky pork in a hole to spin, that is, if he's still on retainer.
ETA: Implication of that on the ongoing litigations they instigated would be significant.

That is positive news. Wonder how the dark side are taking it? So surely now this means new evidence and.the possibility of a reconstruction, could this now be ordered , as opposed to left to choice, as it appeared before? Perhaps this may be moving on after all.

I wonder whether they are still going to chant the same mantra that the Review was taken at the mccanns behest and therefore they must be innocent? Any one want to have a guess?

Judiciary Police will not Reopen the Maddie Case
by Tânia Laranjo
The Judiciary Police will not reopen the Maddie Case, since there aren't any new leads regarding her whereabouts.
A Judiciary Police source told the CM that the process is, at the
moment, being re-evaluated, in cooperation with a team of London
investigators.
The team is coordinated by Helena Monteiro [Superior Coordinator of
Criminal Investigation], from the the PJ in Oporto, and was set up
several months ago. However nothing new was found that could help
discover the whereabouts of the child. This is the second time that the
PJ requests the aid of a "foreign" team to examine the process, in
order to understand if there was a lead that wasn't followed.

Team mccanns is spnning like mad.
Since when the REVIEW is a 2nd request for help from PJ?
You would think the mccanns would be overjoyed at the reopening, but NO.
They said because there is no new lead to follow hence no re-opening! Err...what happens to Metodo 3, eight new significant leads claim?
I wonder whoever gave them the idea the review team's remit is " to examine the process, in
order to understand if there was a lead that wasn't followed" - this quotation bit must be from their source, and we all know who mccanns official source is.
They shot themselves in the foot again - are they now admitting there wasnt a lead that was not followed then?
Effectively they're saying the PJ were thoroughly efficient yet they spent a fortune on bogus private detectives to come up with fabricated sightings.
This is a pair relentlessly asking for money from the public for their search; instead using the money to sue people whom they alleged hamper their search!
If that being the case, shouldn't they be suing the Yard for concluding none of their leads is genuine enough to follow up - would the non- effort of the Yard constitute hampering their search?

Joana has said on her blog that she is going to translate the original Jornal de Noticias article where they say they ARE reopening the case as soon as she can get the paper copy.
Fingers crossed something is going to happen soon.

Re: Breaking News - coming up...SOON
With acknowledgement and thanks to Joana Morais.
If there is not going to be a reopening, why is there a need for their PR to say anything at all? The non event will be self explanatory isnt it?
Meanwhile at about that same time [1:00/30am], Rogério Alves the mentor of the McCann's lawyer team in Portugal was already “spinning like Mitchell” at Rádio Renascença and at SIC Notícias.
Stating, with a straight face, the following: “The issue is not closed. The criminal process was closed with the archival, but the issue is not closed, because we continue to not know what happened to Madeleine, who abducted her, which likely happened. While that is not found, the police can always resume one investigation and that investigation is the one that might reopen the process at the Public Ministry”.
One has to wonder if Dr. Rogério Alves is enjoying his new role as a PR.
Let us look at what he says carefully - the Judiciary Police can do “one investigation”, in other words, a parallel investigation to the Official and Archived PJ Investigation. But there are no new credible leads to follow, so what exactly is the “one investigation” going to “investigate”?
And should the PJ really spend more two, three, four million euros - the latter being the alleged cost of the Official and archived PJ Investigation, paid by Portuguese Tax-payers - in an useless “review” that will result in nada?
What about all the other Portuguese missing children who never had those resources at their disposal? All of them together, did not even get one-third of what was spent in the Portuguese investigation to Madeleine's disappearance!
Or is Dr. Rogério Alves suggesting the Police should follow more valueless “shocking” leads, as revealed by Dra. Isabel Duarte in an impromptu press conference outside the Palácio da Justiça in Lisbon, in February 10, 2010? Which reminds me, what were the results of that “shocking” lead? Were the photos related to Madeleine at all, or was that just a pretext for something else?
Moving on. Dr. Rogério Alves, goes on to suggest that “one investigation” into nothing can actually reopen the Official and Archived PJ Investigation. I beg to differ, I fail to understand how that would be materially attainable.
Wait a minute, did Dr. Alves forget that his clients, Gerald McCann and Kate Healy can reopen the Official and Archived PJ Investigation if they come to Portugal - no, not to sue right and left - to do a reconstruction at almost zero cost for the Portuguese tax-payers, at least that would be comparatively inexpensive to the McCann's lawyer suggestions.
Yes, you can, McCann!
The McCann couple can reopen the investigation into their daughter's disappearance, if they do and ask their friends, dubbed the “Tapas 7”, to take part in the re-enactment and clarification of the events that took place on May 3, 2007, something that was requested by the Portuguese Police years ago.
Wasn't the reopening of the investigation to their missing daughter what the McCann couple asked to the English Prime-Minister David Cameron, in a letter published by Rupert Murdoch's tabloid 'The Sun'? To which the Sun, replied: 'PM David Cameron reopens Maddie McCann files' - only that wasn't true, was it? The case files continue to be archived to today, the police investigation is stalled.
To be able to reopen your missing child's police investigation by doing a reconstruction, wouldn't that be an opportunity that any desperate father or mother would take, that being perhaps the only step that the McCanns can take at this moment to reopen the police investigation into Madeleine's disappearance?
Though Dr. Alves' clients, particularly the McCann acolytes, seem to want to highlight only certain parts of the dispatch that archived the investigation, and did not clear the McCanns of anything except of their arguido status [formal suspect according to the Portuguese Penal Code], since only a court of law can decide if a person is guilty or innocent; let us recall then here what the public prosecutor, José de Magalhães e Menezes, and the joint prosecutor João Melchior Gomes wrote in the archival dispatch: - “We believe that the main damage was caused to the McCann arguidos, who lost the possibility to prove what they have protested since they were constituted arguidos: their innocence towards the fateful event; the investigation was also disturbed, because said facts remain unclarified.”
But, as if Madeleine's tragic fate isn't sufficient, isn't what the prosecutors wrote another clear reason to do the reconstruction? “For the McCann arguidos” to prove their innocence. And while here in Portugal use that chance to dissipate any doubts and respond to the Police questions that were never answered...
Again, let us recall the probable reason for the above extraordinary spin - that is, extraordinary only for those who are not used to Team McCann antics, for the rest of us this is a mere PR exercise in damage limitation, preemptive spin to be precise. “The usual McWhoppers”, some would say. The reason seems obvious and was published in this blog just a few days ago, in an interview with the leading coordinator of the Madeleine McCann investigation, where the former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral, said:
«The decision of that Prime Minister has been twisted. The McCann couple has spoken of a re-examination of the child’s “sightings”. When, in fact, what is known is that Scotland Yard, who were appointed to re-evaluate the whole investigation, has set aside the pseudo-sightings, focusing instead on the investigation process that remains archived. Elements from the Scotland Yard have been working with an investigative [Judiciary Police] team from Oporto (Oporto because Algarve and Lisbon have already been involved), and what is known is that the “affair” is not going well for the McCanns.»
Try again Dr. Alves, you're not as good as Clarence Mitchell, not yet at least.
Pre-emptive spin, indeed.
If there is not going to be a reopening, why is there a need for their PR to say anything at all? The non event will be self explanatory isnt it?

Ah say boy Ah say did you hear the news on BBC Radio
The ol Rooster god bless him is beside himself having just heard the BBC report that a team of Portuguese Detectives are going to be working with Scotland Yard with the intention of re-opening the Madeliene McCann case. I'm 99% certain that that is what I heard. Those blaggers the McCanns have peered to close to their images in the water and are about to get a soaking metaphorically speaking. Get thee hence!

I am inclined to "wait and see" before getting excited about this - as Annabel has said in her post -

Judiciary Police will not Reopen the Maddie Case"
This must only be what they said initially "a Review" - anyone?

Effectively the PJ have reopened the case, not using the protocol route, but then this is an exceptional case requiring exceptional measures.
The way I see it, the focus is on mccanns and the reconstruction should have been done long ago. The Yard was right when they state the the archiving was too hasty.

"Although it was formally archived, we still have a disappearance without explanation. The archiving does not mean that the Judiciary Police is less interested in clarification and in searching for answers," Pedro do Carmo, a joint national director, explained to JN.
Hasty archiving
According to information that was collected by JN, the English authorities have travelled to Portugal four times already. The investigators from Oporto have also recently been in Portimão.
Within the ongoing diligences – although the process has not been formally reopened by the Public Ministry – the possibility of the re-enactment of the circumstances that preceded Maddie's disappearance, on the 3rd of May, 2007, in Praia da Luz, Lagos, is open.
This diligence was not carried out because – it should be recalled – the McCann couple and six of their friends refused to participate. "The British authorities' interest values all of the work that was developed by the Portuguese police and questions the reason for a hasty and abrupt archiving. The material truth still has to be established," Gonçalo Amaral, the first coordinator of the investigation, now retired, stated to JN"

How strange! The McCann's are conspicuous by their absence. One would have thought that they would be putting out press releases at every opportunity, telling the World how fantastic the re-examination of the case is. If I were in their position, I would be saying, how relieved I was, not only that they are looking for Madeleine, but now Gerry and I have an opportunity to show the World that we had NOTHING to do with our daughter’s disappearance. But my guess is, they are out shopping for washing detergent to wash those extra undies they are using up.

This must be worrying for them.
What really surprised me is CM is still on retainer 5 years on. One would have thought once the case is shelved they shouldn't be needing a porte-parole.

Re: Breaking News - coming up...SOON
Again, with acknowledgement and thanks to Joana Morais blog.
The «World» still searches for Madeleine. Even the PJ created a special unit that will review case, along with the Scotland Yard
by Patrícia Pires
Never before the disappearance of a child created such a huge media frenzy.Madeleine McCann disappeared on the 3rd of May, 2007 in Praia da Luz, Algarve.
From grieving parents to suspects, the McCann consciously or not, fueled the mystery and the media. One year later, the case was archived. Without arguidos, without conclusions, without answers and plenty of controversy between the British couple and the Portuguese authorities.
Maybe that is why, even today, the world waits for answers. Even the PJ has created a special unit that will review the case, along with Scotland Yard.
But if in real life no one knows what happened to Madeleine McCann, there is a place where she is very much alive: in the Internet. Sites, blogs, books, videos, documentaries.
The website created by Maddie's parents is still active. In «Find Madeleine», Gerry and Kate explain why they don't give up and call for new donations for the fund that ensures the search for their daughter. They show photos, videos and they sell products: wristbands, posters and even T-Shirts with Maddie's photo.
However, the truth is, the vast majority of the sites that found in the internet defend that the child has died in the apartment in Praia da Luz. And that the parents are responsible for what has happened.
There are sites extremely comprehensive in terms of the information that is provided. They even have all the investigation, disclosed by the Portuguese Public Ministry, translated into different languages. They gather news articles and actually do interviews.
And, it is curious to note, that in addition to sites in English and Portuguese, it is also very easy to find pages in other languages, such as these two: «Hasta que se sepa la Verdad» and «Unterdenteppichgekehrt».
What about books? Over 20 books on Madeleine McCann were written. One of the latest, was written by an American profiler, Pat Brown. The book went on sale in the form of an ebook on Amazon, but soon after, it ended up being removed after the legal representatives [Carter Ruck] of the McCanns deemed it as «defamatory».
As early as in 2009, the «Diário IOL» (now TVI24.pt) interviewed Tony Bennett, a British solicitor, in his 60's, now retired, who soon after the disappearance of Maddie initiated a struggle so Kate and Gerry would be accused of negligence. Later on he wrote a book titled «What Really Happened to Madeleine McCann? 60 Reasons which suggest that she was not abducted»
Still, the book that raised more controversy book was, without doubts, «Maddie - The Truth of the Lie» written by former Judiciary Police inspector, Gonçalo Amaral, who led the investigation into the disappearance of Maddie in the first months. Madeleine's parents were even able to forbid the sales of the book for a while.
On YouTube, a search with Madeleine McCann's name finds close to six thousand videos. Many created by anonymous, without any connection to the case, to the investigation or to the family.
And since the digital world is not limited in time and in space, after her disappearance, Madeleine «emerged» in social networks. Not only in the official facebook page created by parents, but as well in many others, of people who felt touched by the story. The same happened on twitter.

Re: Breaking News - coming up...SOON
Sunday March 11,2012
By James Murray
DETECTIVES are using the latest computer technology to try to create a new image of a “prime suspect” who might have been involved in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
They are also working on a “computerised reconstruction” of the night she disappeared by putting thousands of pieces of information into the police Holmes computer.
The developments come at a significant time with the Policia Judiciaria in Portugal announcing it has a cold case team working on the investigation in Porto, north Portugal.
The Portuguese officers will work closely with the Scotland Yard detectives and will have “primacy” in the investigation.
The Sunday Express understands the Yard team have been examining all photofits, e-fits and drawings of people suspected of being involved in the disappearance of three-year-old Madeleine from an apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007. One of the best known drawings was based on a description given by a friend of Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate. Jane Tanner claimed she saw a man carrying a child in his arms but did not get a good look at his face.
The Porto team is very experienced in these cases
PJ deputy chief Pedro do Carmo
Other images were created from witnesses who saw people acting suspiciously in the vicinity around the time of the crime.
Irishman Martin Smith and members of his family saw a man carrying a child in his arms at about 10pm, about 45 minutes after the Tanner sighting. However, he was not asked to help produce a photofit. The Met refuses to discuss the details but it is expected that officers will approach Mr Smith and his family for help. Yard experts are looking at ways of improving the images to end with one pristine likeness of the “suspect”.
Officers are using the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System for computer logging of all relevant information and have tailored it to help create what is described as a “computer reconstruction” of the key events of the night of May 3.
It is hoped that eventually there will be an almost minute by minute account, which will assist officers.
The Yard launched its review last year after Kate and Gerry McCann appealed directly to David Cameron. Officers have visited Portugal several times and are said to have a good relationship with their Portuguese counterparts.
PJ deputy chief Pedro do Carmo said: ‘‘The Porto team is very experienced in these cases.”
Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leicestershire, hope the review will lead to a full scale reopening of the case.
