What has always amazed me is the fact that the whole family, who presumably knew Madeleine, were immediately four-square behind the whole story.
One gave up a job to manage the fund within days.
One lot flew out to Portugal and stayed for months, didn't they have jobs to go back to? Children even?
One was the main source of all information to the press in the early days.

All of them must have known that the myth of a sweet, little happy girl who would light up the lives of those she touched, was an outright lie. There are plenty of quotes which describe her as a very difficult child.
The natural reaction of honest people would be to distance oneself from the affair, at least in private.

IMO they are all in on whatever reason was given for the cover up. This might be the same as what most of the Tapas were told: e.g. accident, no PM.
But the family seemed so ready, they apparently even took their swimsuits going out to Portugal. Perhaps it was their holiday too?

Well said Tigger. I know that families are supposed to stick together through thick and thin but this lot take the concept to whole new lengths. It's the coloboma story that gets to me in particular and shows how the whole family was up to their necks (or their eyeballs?) in it. They must have known that this crucial identifying feature was merely an insignificant fleck yet not one of them ever spoke out.

Or could it just be that the thought that Gerry and Kate would lie about something like this is incomprehensible...so therefore they have to be telling the truth.

Brings to mind a quote from Clarence I have just read on having a lie detector test. He said, "they don't need one because they are telling the truth."

So that's that then!

Although I do wonder if some members of the family have doubts in private.

They'd run the risk of something slipping out, especially after a few drinks or a crisis of conscience, the family all loved Madeleine and there are the twins to consider. I wouldn't mind an invite to the next family party big grin

But on the other hand there is the coloboma, not to mention a trailer of (pardon the pun) doctored photos.

"McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "Of course they are not going to take the test. It's inadmissible in Portugal and there are doubts about the accuracy.

"Gerry and Kate don't need to do one as they are telling the truth."
