Just watched this. Always interesting to hear what's volunteered that you didn't know, long after the originating question has been dealt with.

Both of them are absolutely fascinating to watch, knowing there's a narrative.
One thing he's not doing tho is accepting guilt all on his own here. Whilst acceding to a bit of blame giving credit to Kate being the more cautious parent, he drags the rest of the Tapas 9 right into it in his own moral acceptance of his share of guilt about who disappeared to "check" the kids. We all did.
Whatever went wrong it was ultimately down to them as Maddies parents, but they weren't taking the rap alone, so we get a cover up. A theory purported. Nothing more.

They are important because it was precisely this publicity campaign which meant they COULD NOT POSSIBLE WIN the Privacy issue in the ECHR
The mere fact of going on TV, blabbing about their sex lives in the book and in the Sun, The Mail, the Daily GutterSnipe, the Daily Strong Tissue . . . doomed the entire thing, from the Court of Appeal, through the Supreme Court and the ECHR from the start.
As any competent lawyer should have advised them.

But for some reason (money ?) their lawyers did not so advise them, with the results we predicted and have now had confirmed.
