I don't know how Gerry McCann managed to worm his way into the Edinburgh Media Conference in August 2007. I strongly suspect it had something to do with the McCanns new found influence in the world of media, aided and abetted by their advisor and staunch friend, Clarence Mitchell.

Much the same way that Gerry McCann wriggled himself into the British Police Bravery Award Ceremony and the Leveson inquiry.

I am bumping this video because if you watch and listen carefully, it tells all you need to know about the character and smug arrogance of Professor Gerry McCann.

Don't forget this interview was filmed only four months after Madeleine disappeared.

Sometimes you can be having a really good time and then suddenly you realise it's tinged cos it suddenly just stops you and, you know .... you know we had a really lovely day last week and em, it was sunny and you could smell the grass it was being cut and I thought it's really nice and then .... it just kinda kinda gets you .... err Madeleine's still not here.

Gerry McCann's speech on return to the UK

9th September 2007

When we touched down in the Midlands, I couldn’t hold back the tears any longer, even though I could see how they were worrying Amelie. We were home at last; home without Madeleine. Soon we would be walking into our house, the house we’d only ever lived in with Madeleine. My chest hurt, my throat felt swollen and my head began to spin. Gerry put his arm round me. I glanced up to see the strain on his face and his red, watery eyes. He was being so strong but I knew he was dying inside.

Slowly and solemnly, we came down the steps from the aeroplane, Gerry with a sleeping Sean resting against his chest and me with Amelie, tired but awake, on my hip. What did the future hold for our family now?

On reaching the tarmac, Gerry gave a short statement to the waiting reporters and film crews. He was breaking, his voice tight as he fought the persistent urge to bawl.
