DETECTIVES searching for Madeleine McCann are set to be given more cash in the £11m hunt for the missing girl.

The Home Office is likely to approve the Met Police's request for extra funds to help continue the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.

Funds for Operation Grange - established to probe what happened when the little girl went missing - are set to run out in days.

But a source told the Sun Online "there will be no problem" with new funds being given the green light and the operation will not be axed.

A Met Police source said today: "There has been some recent speculation that the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance could be put on hold or discontinued because of the coronavirus epidemic and a shortage of officers working.
SEARCH 'WILL GO ON'

"This isn't the case and we can't see the outbreak causing a problem for this ongoing inquiry.

"Neither can the Home Office.

"We've been told there will hopefully be no problem with new funding."

Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry say they're buoyed up by Scotland Yard's "iron will determination" to continue with the search for their daughter, who vanished during a family holiday in Portugal nearly 13 years ago.

Through their spokesman Clarence Mitchell, the couple say they are "greatly encouraged that officers believe there is active work left to be done".

Mr Mitchell said: "While an active investigation is ongoing, it gives them hope that one day they will find out what happened to Madeleine after all these years.
MADDIE VANISHED ON HOLIDAY

"The Met has an iron will determination to find the answers Kate and Gerry so desperately want."

Maddie was just three when she disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007.

Her parents were dining in a nearby tapas restaurant with friends, but were making regular checks on their three children.

Heart doctor Gerry, 51, and former GP Kate, 52, who live in Rothley, Leics., have never lost hope that their daughter could still be alive.

Maddie would now be almost 17.

The Sun Online revealed last month that police had requested extra cash.
FAMILY STILL HAS HOPE

Detectives put in a formal bid to the Home Office for funding to continue when the current amount runs out on March 31.

A source said: "There is still work left to be done on this inquiry and we are anticipating our new funding request will be approved."

The operation launched in May 2011 on the orders of then Prime Minister David Cameron.

There were concerns it could be shelved because of the demands placed on policing by the coronavirus.

Mr Mitchell said the McCanns "never take for granted" that further funding will be automatically approved.

However, he said they have "not been advised that the inquiry is coming to an end".

Maddie's great uncle, retired headteacher Brian Kennedy, has previously told how the family "still has hope, even after all these years".

The 80-year-old, who spoke on the 12th anniversary of the girl's disappearance in May 2019, said: "We're just grateful that police are still searching. It gives us hope."

Officials from the Met Police said today: "The Met has previously said that the team leading the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is small in number.

"The team continue to lead that investigation, but can flex if it is required.”

Representatives from the Home Office have been approached for comment.

So while detectives like my daughter who work on genuine investigations are taken off child abuse to go on duty in uniform with no protection to get spat and coughed at, the four detectives in Operation Grange get the green light to put their feet up on their desk looking for a phantom 'abductor'.

Yes, ladyinred, I'm also as angry as BlueBag.

If the cops are rightly so anxious about the lack of adequate PPE, then they should raise the issue of the misuse of public funding on operational grange in a time of national crisis. The funds should be used for face masks, disposable gloves and hand sanitiser for every uniformed officer
And yes, it really is a f-ing disgrace, but you know my theory, based on RoE and also espoused by Richard D Hall that there is a very strong MI5 involvement in the Maddy case and on going cover-up. As such, I surmise that the home office funding to the Met is visibly diverted from the Intelligence service budget allocation. Grange needs to be seen to continue to prevent any enquiry or detailed FOI responses.

Met Police detectives hunting Madeleine McCann 'are set to be given more money' in £11m search for missing girl

Funds for Operation Grange will expire in days but more resources are imminent
Police chiefs said to reject claims the coronavirus crisis will affect investigation

Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

The operation to find Madeleine McCann is set to receive another cash boost, on top of the £11 million already pledged in the hunt for the missing girl.

Detectives have requested extra money to continue their investigation into the disappearance of the toddler in Portugal back in 2007, according to The Sun.

Funds for Operation Grange will expire at the end of the month but it's suggested more resources to ensure the search continues should not be an issue.

A Met Police source told the site: 'There has been some recent speculation that the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance could be put on hold or discontinued because of the coronavirus epidemic and a shortage of officers working.

'This isn't the case and we can't see the outbreak causing a problem for this ongoing inquiry. Neither can the Home Office.

We've been told there will hopefully be no problem with new funding.'

The news has been welcomed by Maddie's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, according to their spokesman Clarence Mitchell.

'While an active investigation is ongoing, it gives them hope that one day they will find out what happened to Madeleine after all these years,' he said.

'The Met has an iron will determination to find the answers Kate and Gerry so desperately want.'

Three-year-old Madeleine vanished after she had been left sleeping alone with her younger twin siblings while her parents were dining in a nearby tapas restaurant at their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

The couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, who insist they made regular checks on the children throughout that evening, have never given up hope of finding their daughter.

However, ex-detective Mark Williams-Thomas recently claimed the case will never be solved because a crucial CCTV camera was switched off when Maddie, who would now be 17, disappeared.

The Met took over the hunt in 2011 after the parents made a personal plea to then-Prime Minister David Cameron, and has received more than £11m in funding, despite some police chiefs calling for the search to end.

There were fears the demands of the Covid-19 pandemic on policing would mean further funding could be shelved, but it appears detectives will continue to be backed in the coming days.

Officials from the force told The Sun: 'The Met has previously said that the team leading the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is small in number.

'The team continue to lead that investigation, but can flex if it is required.'

I think the ridiculous pieces published in the rags are there simply to provoke a reaction.  IMO they are "placed" by a media manipulator or even something more sinister.  Therefore, I won't comment on them in future.

they should be posted on the forum, and left with no comments, in isolation, to expose the madness of this case.

Poor Madeleine.

"There is still work to be done".

"We have an iron will".

Honestly? How DO they get away with it?

What is the secret about what really happened to Madeleine McCann that needs this elaborate, thick web of deception?

Who was REALLY responsible for her disappearance?

Who, when and why was that grim-looking Make-Up Photo taken?

The McCanns know the answers. So, for sure, does Jon Corner. So do the bosses of MI5 and the security services. So do all the Prime Ministers & Met Police Commissioners since May 2007. And a great many others.

It MUST be a very nasty, very dirty secret

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

I think you are absolutely right Tony. The only sane reason I can think of is, while the investigation is live, they can hide behind the freedom of information act and not release any information or answer any questions.
