SCOTLAND Yard’s hunt for Madeleine McCann is being led by a top murder cop already battling London’s knife crime epidemic, The Sun can reveal.
Det Chief Insp Mark Cranwell has recently been put in part-time charge of Operation Grange, which has cost taxpayers £12 MILLION to date.
He runs a tiny four-cop team trying to crack a case the Met has been investigating for EIGHT years.
So far it has not made a single arrest - yet was still granted another £300,000 by the Home Office in June.
Meanwhile police are trying desperately to turn back the tide on knife crime in the capital.
Shock figures showed blade offences had soared by seven per cent in the year to June, a record high.
DCI Cranwell is playing a leading role in trying to combat it - making a series of appeals to the public in a raft of recent teenage murders.
RECORD HIGH BLADE OFFENCES
On Tuesday he asked witnesses to come forward over the fatal stabbing of Ben Lines, 20, in Bexley, South East London, on Sunday.
Meanwhile a freedom of information request shows the Operation Grange team he leads is made up of four full-time detectives, including three constables and one sergeant.
The costs are being covered by Special Grant funding from the Home Office, usually available to police forces when they face significant or exceptional costs.
The £12million total spent already is more than double the £5million promised by David Cameron when Operation Grange was launched in May 2011. The task force at its height was 37-strong.
Tens of thousands of pounds have been spent on flights to Portugal and to investigate other sightings around the globe.
The Met said: “As of 30 September 2019, there are four officers working full time on Operation Grange; one Detective Sergeant, and three Detective Constables.
“The Senior Investigating Officer is Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Mark Cranwell, who does not work full time on the investigation.
“DCI Cranwell reports to Commander Stuart Cundy from the Met’s Specialist Crime command, who has chief officer responsibility for Operation Grange.”

What happened to DCI 'Nickers' Wall ?
As his high profile approach involves making a series of appeals, and 'asking witnesses to come forward' I am sure he will solve the case within decades.

Maybe the useless London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, could have a word with his brother about the knife crime epidemic...after all, he's a Met Police frontline Commander.
Together they should be unstoppable in the fight against knife crime, right?
eta: scrub that - it's actually Sajid Javid's brother not Sadiq Khan's. But, even so, Sajid was the Home Secretary at the time.

Looks like you need to re-send your letter Peter? Or do you think it will get passed on to DCI Cranwell?PeterMac wrote:What happened to DCI 'Nickers' Wall ?

Operation Grange is in name only.
Three detective constables and one detective sergeant? What exactly are they investigating - the tea-leaves or the hour hand on the clock?
The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was conducted by the Portuguese police - as it should be. Since then, there has been no official force proactively searching [sic].
What the hell has it got to do with knife crime anyway?
As regards the media, Madeleine McCann is history. Knife crime across the nation is current and very serious.

It is not 'Knife Crime" any more than a bank robbery is "Balaclava and shotgun" Crime or a City Fraud is 'cheque book and biro" crime.
They know perfectly well what it is.
It is young black men fighting for control of the supply of Class A drugs, and punishing anyone who gets in their way.
Everyone knows this. Everyone understands this, but the Lib-Left who now dominate refuse to allow the various authorities to deal with it.
True they concentrate on the import, and are taking many tons of cocaine out of the system. But not often enough.
Paradoxically that makes the situation on the streets infinitely worse, as contracts are broken through lack of supply.

DCI Mark Cranwell's biography on LinkedIn is quite revealing:
About
1990 - Now [October 2019] 29 years and 9 months in Policing within the Metropolitan Police Service, achieving Detective Chief Inspector rank as a Senior Investigating Officer in the Homicide Command.
Achieved PIP level 3 accreditation, awarded by the College of Policing. During 2018 was the SIO for in excess of 11 Homicides, along with many other allocated investigations. Trusted to lead and manage several significant high profile, sensitive and complex investigations.
Currently and have performed the role of Senior Identifications Manager (SIM) – Management of the ante and Post Mortem data, leading to the identification of victims within mass disasters. SIM for the Grenfell Tower mortuary for the first two weeks, working with the coroner to ensure all process in place for correct identification.
Worked in International policing (Extradition, Foreign National offenders and International assistance), managing over 100 staff.
Worked in Confidential unit managing sensitive and secret material/intelligence, working with key stakeholders across government and sensitive partners.
In summary I have worked in a variety of roles within the MPS, which has developed me as a manager of complex investigations, high/demanding workloads and people.
===================
So, in summary, he is within three months of 'retirement age' for police officers, i.e. the completion of 30 years' service, therefore very possibly about to retire.
Also, he is...
"Trusted to lead and manage several significant high profile, sensitive and complex investigations", and "Worked in Confidential unit managing sensitive and secret material/intelligence, working with key stakeholders across government and sensitive partners".
So...
...we see the word 'sensitive' THREE times there, plus he is trusted with 'secret material', and intelligence, and 'high profile cases'.
It seems, then, that he is just 'the right man for the job'.
Plus he will probably be promoted to the next rank up - Detective Superintendent - as he likely writes and edits the final report of Operation Grange - the cover-up of the century so far, which will confirm that Madeleine McCann was abducted by someone who is either dead or cannot be traced.
I hope the likes of Det Chief Insp Andy Redwood, Det Chief Insp Nicola Wall and now Det Chief Insp Mark Cranwell can sleep soundly at night.
It must be exciting, and very rewarding, to be entrusted with such a great cover-up.
But maybe just a touch unsettling at the back of your mind...
...in case the truth ever comes out

Shining in Luz, how goes it? are you writing about your dog called Goncalo?
Have you stopped doing tours in PdL since your move?
Are you at all interested in what happened to a little girl who went missing twelve years ago?
Thanks for the recipes.

My apologies Jill if you think I'm off topic. ShiningInLuz (aka Elca Craig) writes a blog which I read from time to time. He has also appeared in mainstream media as doing 'ghoul tours' in PdL. His blogs are difficult to fathom. He has a dog called Goncalo who he claims to be training as some sort of snifferdog. He writes mostly about food, recipes, gardening etc.Jill Havern wrote:What has your post got to do with this thread Liz?

His appearance on the forum is spasmodic and I am given to understand he spreads himself thinly on various other fora. I have learned over the years he is no friend of Tony, so I find it strange he has posted on a post Tony made.

To be accurate, I am neither a friend nor foe of Tony. I know very little about him.
However, I do like to give credit where credit is due.
Perhaps 6 weeks ago I wrote an article on my blog, to the effect that DCI Nicola Wall had retired, and I put a name in the frame for her replacement. The latter I got wrong.
We have now moved on to the correct name, plus a profile of the replacement.
For this I am grateful, and logged on merely to say thanks.
Make your own mind up about what the fact this replacement is fast pushing retirement age implies for OG.

Could you possibly post-up the link to your blog ^^^? It would be most helpful.
I for one, didn't know that DCI Nicola Wall had retired. Operation Grange would appear to be now operating in name only so I don't take much interest unless something new is revealed - like a suspect!
Thanks for your time .

This FOI response places DCI Nicola Wall in situ in October 2018..
The MPS can confirm that Operation Grange is still being worked by four full time officers under DCI Nicola Wall.

...................
In April 2019, Mark Saunokonoko of 9news.com.au, contacted DCI Nicola Wall about the Dr Mark Perlin groundbreaking DNA Cybergenetics. He didn't receive a reply so that can't be taken as evidence that DCI Nicola Wall was still at the helm.
As suggested by a comment on your blog, maybe another FOI is the answer - if indeed it's of any great importance.

I wish you all the very best in your move to Spain. You never know, you might hook up with the Olive Press.ShiningInLuz wrote:Liz Eagles wrote:Never fake banter with an honest person.
Here is what you posted
Many thanks. Most revealing.
That is plain and simple language. Thank you. Very informative. I can't make it any simpler or clearer.
With all due respect Liz, I will leave you with your 'fake banter about an honest person'.
That comment epitomises why I am not a regular poster here.
Adios.

Re: Cop ‘leading the hunt for Madeleine McCann’ is already battling London’s knife crime epidemic
Considering the sort of splash we had when Redwood retired and Wall took over:
Detective leading hunt for Madeleine McCann steps down
DCI Andy Redwood, who has led Scotland Yard's Madeleine McCann investigation for the past three years, announces he is retiring from the Metropolitan Police
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/madeleinemccann/11275266/Detective-leading-hunt-for-Madeleine-McCann-steps-down.html
the way Nicola Wall has just slid out the back door without even a goodbye, surely speaks volumes for the nonsense that is (or isn’t!) Operation Grange.
I wonder whether Mark Saunokonoko will be interested in trying to take this any further?
