MADELEINE McCann's parents have vowed to never give up searching for their missing daughter.
They say they will carry on "for as long as it takes", as the UK's top cop admits she doesn't know the high-profile case will ever be solved.
Kate and Gerry McCann's pledge comes as Scotland Yard chief Cressida Dick said of the £11.75million hunt: "I don’t know whether it will [be solved].
"But we are carrying on. While there are still lines of inquiry we will of course continue with this."
But Maddie’s parents insist it is “still entirely possible” they can find out what happened to their daughter and will never give up even if police do, a family pal said.
The source told The Sun Online: “Kate and Gerry appreciate the Metropolitan Police is doing everything in its power to find out what happened to Madeleine and they are very grateful for the continued support.
"If it comes to a point where officers have to give in, without any resolution, they will carry on searching themselves with the help of private investigators and finances set aside for this purpose.”
Maddie’s parents said earlier this week they were “not getting their hopes up” over cops closing in on a new prime suspect. In a reported breakthrough, Portuguese police are examining a “new clue and suspect” after talks with officers.
WHAT HAPPENED TO MADDIE?
Three-year-old Maddie disappeared from an unlocked holiday flat while her parents were dining with pals in a nearby tapas restaurant on holiday in 2007.
She had been left sleeping alone in the Portuguese apartment with her younger twin siblings Sean and Amelie - she would be aged 16 now.
Eminent heart doctor Gerry and former GP turned medical worker Kate, both 51, from Rothley, Leics, are briefed regularly by officers working on the vastly scaled down Op Grange inquiry.
It has recently been given an extra £300,00 in Home Office funding to keep the search going for another nine months.
Kate said in a log standing post on the Find Maddie website: “As a parent of an abducted child, I can tell you that it is the most painful and agonising experience you could ever imagine.
"My thoughts of fear, confusion and loss of love and security that my precious daughter has had to endure are unbearable - crippling.”
The Facebook page, endorsed by the McCann’s, have now emblazoned across their cover: “For as long as it takes” with an iconic last holiday snap of Maddie a three-year-old grinning under a sunhat whilst clutching tennis balls.
Ms Dick, discussing the London force’s application for new funding on LBC Radio on Monday, said: “We have active lines of inquiries and I think the public would expect us to see those through.
"A very small team continues to work on this case with Portuguese colleagues.

Former CEOP Boss Big Jim Gamble, How many "Paedophiles did your Organisation unfurl" or hand over to UK Police to be processed by Crown Courts, Operation Ore, or all those names wrongly exposed, eh Jim?
How many "Elites/Upper Echelons" from Society did you unmask, None?
Now, friend of the Family, Big Jim 90% Surety on (RM) as Lead Paedophile suspect, 2007, now Twelve years later, little Madeleine may have wandered from the Apartment, My arse, No that's Jim's lips moving?
Forty to fifty years of Cover Ups on Child Sexual Abuse by Former Prime Ministers, MP's, "We'er All In This together" as Rebekah quoted to Cameron?
You think the MP's will divulge the Truth, after taking an "Oath " to Protect Queen/King of the UK, just paid shills, that's All?
Operation Midland, Yewtree, what did the Metropolitan Police uncover on Child Sexual Abuse spending Two + Million pounds in that process, catch any "Paedophiles", er No, catch any Media Moguls, er No, the only person caught now being processed by the "system", Mr Carl Beech, who made allegations of child Sexual Abuse, No One else?

If these are our top cops it's no wonder this crime, amongst many others, have never been solved.
