Madeleine McCann case 'closer to being SOLVED' by Portuguese police
THE 12-year case into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is closer to being solved, according to reports in Portugal.
By Jamie Micklethwaite / Published 3rd May 2019
A report in Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha claims detectives are closer solving the 12-year Madeleine McCann disappearance case.
Brit girl Maddie vanished from her holiday apartment in Praia da Luz while her parents ate tapas in a nearby restaurant.
There were fears the case could never be solved, with DNA from the scene of too poor quality to use.
But the Portuguese paper claims investigators have progressed in their bid to find out what happened to the three-year-old.
It reported: "Portuguese police admit to being nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine McCann."
The report adds authorities had "many doubts" over Maddie still being alive.
Police are yet to issue an official response on the report published in the Portuguese newspaper.
Her parents Kate and Gerry McCann have released a statement on the 12th anniversary of their daughter's disappearance.
They said: "It’s that time of year again. As much as we’d like to fast forward the first couple of weeks of May, there’s no getting around it.
“The months and years roll by too quickly; Madeleine will be sixteen this month. It’s impossible to put into words just how that makes us feel.
“There is comfort and reassurance though in knowing the investigation continues and many people around the world remain vigilant.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and for your ongoing hope and belief.
“For as long as it takes.”
The report also claims cops have been handed a new suspect in the investigation.
New clues, which are not believed to relate to her parents, are being actively investigated by cops.

So Scotland Yard are ruling out Mr Julian Totman as creche Dad for the "Suspect" they haven't found yet?
Scotland Yard are looking for the "Lone Paedophile" Once again, you see, the lone Paedophile wasn't part of a Gang of Paedophiles they targeted in 2007 along with Interpol, they were looking for a "Gang"?
That Once given a "Remit" you stick to that remit regardless of where it takes you, you stick to the Remit, in this case "Paedophile Gangs", quite a simple mistake to make, "Your Not looking for alone Paedophile" its a Gang?
So if they are are on their own, they are Not a suspect Nor person of Interest, its a "Gang"?

I can, for this reason alone..
Kate McCann joins Maddie service on 12th anniversary as cops ‘investigate new suspect’
KATE MCCANN tonight joined friends and well wishers to remember her daughter on the painful 12th anniversary of her disappearance as Portuguese police reveal they could be closing in on her kidnapper.
Maddie’s brave mum and her twins were warmly welcomed by their community during a poignant prayer service in their home village of Rothley, Leicestershire, while her heart doctor husband Gerry was busy working in Italy.
Former GP Kate, 51, was “overwhelmed” by the support as she joined in prayers and readings to mark the occasion - the first anniversary without Gerry by her side.
Her uncle Brian Kennedy said before the half hour service that the family “still had hope even after all these years”.
The retired head teacher, 80, declined to discuss detectives' potential new leads which they have yet to be informed about, saying: “We’re just grateful that police are still searching. It gives us hope."
Kate, wearing a purple puffa jacket and black jeans and with her hair freshly highlighted and trimmed, fought back tears during as children, including her 14-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, lit candles for Maddie and other lost youngsters.
The gathering had been due to take place at the war memorial in the McCann’s home village of Rothley, Leicestershire, where a candle burns around the clock as a beacon of hope for the world’s most famous missing child.
But it was moved into the nearby local Baptist Church to avoid expected rains showers.
Vicar the Rev. Rob Gladstone, who led the prayers, opened the service by saying: “A warm and a very dry welcome. Even after twelve years of hoping and praying we trust that God has not abandoned us or Madeleine. We come together again to show our support for Kate and Gerry, for other parents of missing children and young people, to help keep alive the tune of hope which persists through all the storms and sorrows.”
Kate chose not to say any words publicly - Gerry normally addresses the anniversary well wishers - but she later thanked the near 100-strong crowd individually for their continued support.
Brian - the brother of Kate’s mum Susan Healy who was at a prayer service in her home city of Liverpool - said: “We are all very grateful to those who turned out this evening in less than pleasant conditions. It means a lot to us that people are still willing to support us.”
He told how eminent cardiologist Gerry would be remembering his daughter during his hectic business trip to Milan.
During the service touching messages of support were read out by school friends of Maddie’s younger twin siblings.
They joined locals placing name tags of missing people on a vine tree of hope, including Claudia Lawrence and Ben Needham.
A schoolboy paid tribute to British and Portuguese police hunting for Maddie’s abductor, saying: “We pray for the team of women and men who still searching for Madeleine. Guide them as they work hard to find the truth."
Three-year-old Maddie vanished from a holiday apartment in Portugal’s Praia da Luz in May 2007.
She was discovered missing from her bed in a seaside complex apartment by her horrified mum shortly after 10pm.
She had been left alone her younger siblings while her parents were dining in a nearby tapas restaurant with their seven pals.
Portuguese officers, believed to be acting on a tip off from Scotland Yard, say a sex fiend who speaks English and wears a surgical mask could have snatched Maddie from her room.
Kate and Gerry cling onto a glimmer of hope that Maddie - who would turn 16 in nine days - could still be alive.
In a new posting on the official Find Maddie campaign website they vowed to carry on looking for their daughter “for as long as it takes”.
They told of their “comfort and reassurance” that the police hunt to find her continues.
In message to mark the latest harrowing milestone which they wish they could “fast forward” they share their heartache that Maddie would soon be celebrating her sixteenth birthday.
They wrote: "It’s that time of year again. As much as we’d like to fast forward the first couple of weeks of May, there’s no getting around it.”

Downright ludicrous - to coin a phrase.
You can't pin the disappearance of Madeleine McCann on a jailed German paedophile without evidence. Imagine the repercussions.
A dead patsy however is another kettle of rotting sea bass.

Re: ***NEW! 8 May 2019*** Daily Star says there's THIRTEEN SUSPECTS (The Daily Star: Madeleine McCann case 'closer to being SOLVED' by Portuguese police)
A suspect does not need to be charged, tried and convicted in order for a crime to be "pinned" on them! All it takes is for police to establish that the suspect had the opportunity - ie was in the location at the time, a prior history of similar offences, and an allegation that he has since boasted about or revealed his part in the crime to someone, such as another inmate. These, together with a Portuguese police statement that he is considered a serious contender, and the job is done. The vast majority of the public will be fooled into believing the McCanns were innocent after all. The active investigations will become cold cases with the promise to keep a lookout for any new evidence. Result - the McCanns are off the hook and Grange and the P.J. can put the whole affair away. I hope this doesn't happen but fear it will.

KATE McCann believes an efit linking Maddie's abduction to a German serial killer could finally crack the case of her daughter's disappearance.
She made the revelation in her book "Madeleine" where she spoke about how important it was to find four people based on sightings of men in the days leading up to Maddie’s abduction in May 2007.
'SCOTLAND YARD
Mr Mitchell said that Portuguese Police’s fresh bid to close in on Maddie’s kidnapper was “action on a tip off from Scotland Yard".
He explained: “The Yard has been doing a fair amount of work on this new person of interest and they then ask Portuguese officers to nail it down.
“If activity needs to be done, the local police have to do it even if it’s a foreign force’s investigation.
“And if Ney is the person of interest a German force will then have to get involved to interview him on their soil.”
He added: “Kate and Gerry are not in a position to comment on this, nor would they because it is operational detail and they will not discuss it.
“It is purely for the police if they choose to comment.
“The family will wait to hear of any developments and remain grateful to the British police for everything they are doing.”
A close friend of the McCann’s said: "If Ney is the suspect can you imagine how Madeleine’s parents will be feeling, knowing that a child killing pervert many be involved in their daughter’s kidnap.
"It is beyond horrendous."
The suspicious man is described as a caucasian male, fair-skinned, assumed not be be Portuguese, aged 30 to 40, medium height, medium-slim build, very fair cropped hair.

The suspicious man is described as a caucasian male, fair-skinned, assumed not be be Portuguese, aged 30 to 40, medium height, medium-slim build, very fair cropped hair.
He was wearing a pale T-shirt at the time.

Re: ***NEW! 8 May 2019*** Daily Star says there's THIRTEEN SUSPECTS (The Daily Star: Madeleine McCann case 'closer to being SOLVED' by Portuguese police)
As the online edition of the Daily Star was behind a pay wall, I had to cycle down to the local supermarket to buy - for the first-time ever in my life I think - a copy of the Daily Star (45p) - to find out who the '13 suspects' were. There is a two-page spread about them on pages 4 to 5.
ETA: I have four scans of the two-page spread but after several attempts to upload them here, I've given up. I will try later.

THE 13 MADELEINE MCCANN SUSPECTS
Daily Star, 8 May 2019
by Jerry Lawton
1 ‘THE ‘MAN IN THE MASK’
2 THE ‘WILD-EYED CHARITY COLLECTOR’
3 THE CHILD-OBSESSED INTRUDER
4 THE ‘CLEAN CUT COLLECTOR’
5 THE 'VICTORIA BECKHAM MUM’
6 & 7 THE ‘DISTURBED PARENTS’
8 THE ‘SCRUFFY VAN MAN’
9 THE ‘STEALTHY STRANGER’
10 THE ‘POCK-MARKED’ PROWLER’
11 & 12 ‘THE BLONDS’ (Two blond men allegedly seen by the Jensen sisters)
13 THE ‘DODGY DAD’ (‘Smithman’)
Many of these alleged ‘sightings’ are based on very dubious evidence.
Some have been formally ruled out by the Portuguese Police already, for example, the ‘Dodgy Dad’, i.e. ‘Smithman’. The PJ said Martin Smith’s evidence was ‘unreliable’. Even the Metropolitan Police in a Freedom of Information Act reply said that they were no longer seeking the public’s help in identifying him.
Other suspects are purely speculative in that they rely on historic evidence of break-ins elsewhere on the Algarve.

@ Tony Bennett. The P.J never "Said that Martin Smith's evidence was unreliable".
Snipped from the P.J. final report -
"Further on this issue, the testimony of MARTIN SMITH was considered, pages 1606 and following, reporting the sighting of an individual carrying a child, in one of the streets that lead to the beach. It was said that the child could be MADELEINE McCANN, although it was never peremptorily stated. Some time later, the witness alleged that, by its stance, the individual who carried the child could be GERALD McCANN, which was concluded when he saw him descending the stairs from an airplane, pages 2871, 3991 and following and 4135 and following. It was established that at the time that was being mentioned, GERALD McCANN was sitting at the table, in the Tapas Restaurant."
Op. Grange have said they are no longer seeking the public's help in identifying Smithman. Perhaps he has already been identified and, since 2013, there have been no new suggestions as to who he is. Op. Grange is unlikely to draw attention to this sighting now in any case since it has been publicly confirmed that the Smiths still maintain it was Gerry McCann.
