Weather In Praia Da Luz
I have researched the weather during the McCanns holiday to PDL.
These are all taken from this website.
http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/LPFR/2007/5/3/DailyHistory.html?req_city=Lagos&req_state=&req_statename=Portugal&MR=1
I started looking to see if the "last photo" was really taken on the 3rd and seeing the weather I doubt it.
Could someone get these resized for me?

Thanks for this Gilly. You could try here for shrinking pics: http://www.onthegosoft.com/shrink_pic.htm

I am trying to make them wider but nothing I do will work.

Reliability of weather reports
I lived in a Med country for several years. I used to use wunderground for weather forecasts. I learnt to pay no particular attention to them. My local weather station satellite often said rain/cloud etc and I'd be sitting in blazing heat. I'd ring a friend a couple of miles away and find out she was under a deluge of rain.

These aren't weather forecasts they are from historical weather records from an actual weather station

Hi Gillyspot,
what I was trying to say is that on the same day a weather station could have said it was raining in my area when I had no cloud or rain and yet my not so distant neighbour would have found that historical record to be correct. I'm not a weather expert. I agree that if the records quote an earthquake (which I was unfortunate enough to experience a large earthquake) then there would be no denying that.

Re: Weather In Praia Da Luz
The weather does show a trend though. The early part of the holiday was sunny and warm then it gets cloudy and some rain after the 2nd day. It still makes me doubt that the last photo was taken on the 3rd May when it was much cooler and not sunny.

I agree with you Gillyspot in trying to establish whether that photo was taken on 3rd May, I think it would be far more accurate if we were blessed with other people's photos taken on the same day in that location. That would be definite proof. The pity is that anyone with an ounce of sense who was there at the same time (unconnected with the disappearance of Madeleine) probably wouldn't offer photographs for fear of losing their privacy at best or becoming embroiled in what IMO is a bloody fantasy/scandal. I know if I'd been there I'm not sure I'd want to become embroiled in this.
We're singing off the same songsheet.

Re: Weather In Praia Da Luz
Sorry to necropost. Recently shared this on twitter, and searching was surprised to find weather station data here corroborating exactly what the satellite imagery I found shows - scattered cloud. The above chart says Luz was only overcast around 1530. The especially dense clouds are over to the East.
This was taken by a NASA service on May 3rd. With a little digging I was able to ascertain the time window it was taken in. the metadata says it was taken between 1040 and 1225 UTC, so move that one hour ahead for the time in Portugal.
The particular service used for this image was the 'MOD09GQ - MODIS/Terra Surface Reflectance Daily L2G Global 250m SIN Grid'. You can search the data yourself here.
Note - gillyspot's data is for Lagos, which in terms of this image and cloud coverage, is exactly the same as Luz (geographically 6 miles between the two).
I want to stress this is posted for the factual content. It is still my belief that the 'pool photo' was taken earlier in the week and was repurposed to paint a happy picture. Very much admire PeterMac's work on this topic.
To corrborate the above charts further, this image was taken on May 1st (sadly this array doesnt photo daily, or we'd have a much better photo):

No, as written I meant UTC, I was told all times on these images are UTC

No worries, I had to look up what the time difference was with UTC myself! I guess it's an easier time to keep for NASA since the States has three timezones across it.ferrotty wrote:Ah apologies.Mainline wrote:ferrotty wrote:Portugal is not 1hr ahead of GMT if that's what you mean.

It's a highly relevant point.aquila wrote:I lived in a Med country for several years. I used to use wunderground for weather forecasts. I learnt to pay no particular attention to them. Just yesterday, my beloved returned from Lagos, telling me it was chucking it down. Our car was still dripping rain.
At exactly the same time of the downpour, I was roughly 5 miles north of Lagos, walking my dog. The clouds were ominous, but all we got was the very slightest spit of rain.
Records are a starter, but reality is somewhat more complex.
