Carlos Anjos: 'Brits' search for Madeleine was an £11million waste of money' says Portuguese cop

On the 10th anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance inspector Carlos Anjos said the Met's six-year probe into a possible burglary was 'absurd'

As Madeleine’s parents focused on tonight’s 10th anniversary vigil, Carlos Anjos trashed the Met police’s six-year probe which says she was possibly taken during a burglary that went wrong.
Mr Anjos said: “The theory is absurd. Not even a wallet disappeared, no TV disappeared, nothing else disappeared. A child disappeared.”
Mr Anjos has claimed the Met is trying to pin the blame on a drifter working at the Praia da Luz resort where Maddie vanished, aged three, on May 3, 2007, as parents Kate and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], 48, dined with friends.
The McCanns will tonight be joined by dozens of friends, family and villagers for a prayer service in Rothley, Leics.
Rows between the McCanns and UK and Lisbon police have been confirmed by a leaked 2010 Home Office report.
It says: “The McCanns acknowledge a distinct lack of trust between all parties.”
It adds the Portuguese said the Met acted “like a colonial power”.
Last week Met Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said his team are following a “significant line of inquiry” and have not ruled out the burglary theory. In 2014, UK detectives questioned four men as part of the “failed break-in” investigation.
