Sick trolls raised £25k for McCann cop's court appeal
SUPPORTERS have given more than £25,000 to help a Portuguese ex-police chief fight a libel payout to the parents of Madeleine McCann.
by Jerry Lawton / Published 1st June 2015
It was revealed that 1,559 people, including trolls, have pledged donations via a website to Goncarlo Amaral’s appeal against a £357,000 order.
And one four-figure donation is allegedly from members of the Metropolitan Police in London, which is conducting its own probe into Madeleine’s disappearance in Portugal in 2007.
The donation to Mr Amaral’s fighting fund on website gofundme.com was credited to “MPS”, believed to refer to the Metropolitan Police Service.
It is claimed the money came from “an anonymous but very large group of British police officers” said to be “outraged at the way in which a senior investigating officer has been treated”.
Mr Amaral was ordered to surrender the cash by a Portuguese court after accusing Kate McCann, 47, and Gerry, 46, of covering up their missing daughter’s death in a book about the case.
Leanne Baulch, 22, from Birmingham, said she launched the fighting fund in a “quest for justice” because Mr Amaral couldn’t raise the money.
She said cash had poured in from “all over the globe”.

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Well that headline was predictable but the important details are there, the amount raised, the amount of donators, the MPS donation (not saying exact amount will generate more hits and more than likely more donations - link kindly given for ease of search ) and the fact that the donations have came from around the world. Pity Leanne did not get a bigger mention but she can be very proud of what she has achieved this past month. :-)

Yeah!!! I love it that even the MPS donation is mentioned.
More publicity: maybe more donations.

Its funny now that Goncalo Amaral after his statement of
(Quote)
"Each thing in its own time, it won't be only the McCann's, but their group of friends, and other people and entities that will be sued"
Maybe some are starting to get nervous about what could be revealed about this case, in its own time, and who will be held to account for what they have done to discredit GA and the viciousness of their public attacks on him in the MSM. Every dog has its day i guess.

Considering the headline, perhaps the next collection could be for the sick trolls who despite their ill-health managed to contribute.
Hijacking the Lisbon verdict seems to have been a bad move. At some stage the fact that there is an appeal may be published. Just reading the comments on Gofundme will make previously uninterested people search further.
Standing up for the underdogs is a very British tradition, more and more people may realise they're not to be found in TM.
It's brilliant though and the MSM are leaking more and more in subtle ways. Drip. Drip.

Lovely article: spot on Daily Star! Kudos!
(the accuracy of your headline merits some minor improving but serves the purpose well: of attrackting attention to the stuff that really matters)

I don't wish to dampen everyone's enthusiasm but the Daily Star has recently been the mouthpiece/chosen tabloid for McCann articles so I'm wary of a whoopin' and a hollerin' about anything they publish (no change there then).
In the run up to the forthcoming Cycle Challenge for Missing People it will only take one paid shill/loopy person/spin doctor/unscrupulous journalist to post something that could be taken/construed as even mildly threatening about Kate McCann and everything comes back to 'Trolls' and the McCann victimhood.
To see a headline along the lines of 'Kate McCann pulls out of Cycle Challenge after threats from online trolls' wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Sorry if I'm raining on the parade.

But why would the Mecs themselves want to draw attention to the success of the Fund, the fact that so many people sought fit to contribute, the access to the Fund, and the -presumed- involvement of the Met?
Would they really? What's in in for them?

@Portia
The McCanns are never seen as a source for any article in any newspaper. There is an active spin machine for this. This article still calls people 'sick trolls' it's in the headline.
It's far easier for a tabloid to print positive articles from press releases/a source close etc. It's all money making for the tabloids. It's an easy fast buck too - reporters such as Jerry Lawton needn't leave the office/home to write a few paragraphs.
I know I'm a cynical old sod but why would a tabloid even bother to buck the trend and actually do some genuine reporting when it's being fed easy stuff from PR companies that appeals to the masses? It makes much more sense to keep the McCanns as persecuted by Trolls. Kate McCann and the disappearance of Madeleine is the new Diana.
Slightly off topic here but I believe there is a tenuous link. If you look at the article/interview with Jim Gamble in the Belfast Telegraph you'll see it wasn't an interview at all. It was (imo) a PR exercise, why it was almost as if the reporter had been handed a list of questions to ask. Even the photograph of Jim Gamble was carefully selected to look saintly.
Once again I apologise but if anyone thinks the media are going to kill the golden goose that is Madeleine McCann then think again. This slight acknowledgment to people online who question what happened to Madeleine is feigned imo and will revert back to trolls. There is always an agenda.

Portia:
‘But why would the Mecs themselves want to draw attention to the success of the Fund, the fact that so many people sought fit to contribute, the access to the Fund, and the -presumed- involvement of the Met?’
I’m sure they wouldn’t, and quite why Lawton posted the bit about the Met and also the link is a bit of a mystery, although the majority of DS readers wouldn’t access the paper on line, so a printed link is less ‘followable’.
Possible future face-saving attempt for himself?
Anyway the fund is nearly up to £26k now thanks to the DS.
I also have to agree with Aquila that the ‘pink machine’ will be in full flow running scenarios over the bike ride.
I posted this on Lazz guestbook the other week:
‘Unfortunately, I think TM will play the bike ride for all it's worth, with a lot of success. If I was CM, I would be planning the 'poor hard done by me' card for all it was worth. All sorts of accidents and incidents, nails in the road, stolen bikes, even the odd crash - the MSM would just lap it up and blame it all on us 'trolls'. In the almost certain absence of any balanced reporting, I suggest that the best approach is to leave well alone, as even the odd jeering call from the pavement is only going to be misrepresented to the Mc's benefit, let alone the type of 'bad joke' non-existent 'death threat' we saw at the marathon the other year. Nobody bothered to turn up to the 'anniversary gig' at Rothley the other week, so a similar approach is probably needed.’
A complete pull out in advance could certainly be ‘trolled-up’, but a succession of events could keep it in the paper for a week or more. Who needs Bell-Pottinger?

I really don't think that TM can play the victim or sympathy card with any credibility as it seems to me that the McCanns have little, if any, public support. They have shot themselves in the foot, imo. But I agree that sheer indifference is probably the best way to go. Simply ignore them. They are, in any case, pawns in a much bigger 'game', imo.
It is the Met police, the media and other bodies that are responsible for this charade having gone on so long with so much public money wasted. And nothing at all done, imo, to raise awareness of child abuse. On the contrary. But the tide has turned.
It's a pretty desperate effort of the paper to call supporters of Detective Amaral "sick trolls" but still in other respects it's a good article as it demonstrates that there is considerable public support for Amaral.

Re: Sick trolls raised £25k for McCann cop's court appeal - Jerry Lawton, Daily Star, 2 Jun 2015
Wiki:
Madeleine McCann[edit]
Both the Daily Star and its Sunday equivalent, as well as its stablemates the Daily Express and Sunday Express, featured heavy coverage of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in May 2007. In 2008 the McCann family sued the Star and Express for libel. The action concerned more than 100 stories across the Daily Express, Daily Star and their Sunday equivalents, which accused the McCanns of involvement in their daughter's disappearance. The newspapers' coverage was regarded by the McCanns as grossly defamatory. In a settlement at the High Court of Justice, the newspapers agreed to run a front-page apology to the McCanns on 19 March 2008, publish another apology on the front pages of the Sunday editions on 23 March and make a statement of apology at the High Court. They also agreed to pay costs and substantial damages, which the McCanns plan to use to aid their search for their daughter.[6] The Daily Star apologised for printing "stories suggesting the couple were responsible for, or may be responsible for, the death of their daughter Madeleine and for covering it up" and stated that "We now recognise that such a suggestion is absolutely untrue and that Kate and Gerry are completely innocent of any involvement in their daughter's disappearance."
..........................................................
That's their position and they presumably need to stick to it unless they have irrefutable evidence that it's not the case, otherwise they will be straight back in Court.(I say 'back' in the loosest of ways as the original case was of course settled out of court)

How would Mr Lawton 'explain', face to face, to a 'member' of the MPS, who 'donated' to GA's lawyers appeal 'fund', that he/she 'is a vile, disgusting, evil, McCann troll'?
Maybe, a 'member' of MPS, who 'donated', will 'take offence' at being labelled a 'troll' by Mr Lawton.
Does anyone 'know', how many 'members' of MPS have 'donated' to the McCann's privately registered plc, Madeleine's Fund, Leaving No Stone Unturned.?
How 'ironic' would it be, IF 'members' of MPS, or former 'members', seconded to OG, 'donated' to GA's lawyers 'fighting fund'?
Is there a 'fund' set up for former SIO, IO, at OG?

Another 'take' on the 'sick troll' donators.
http://www.inquisitr.com/2137703/madeleine-mccann-trolls-pay-for-amaral-court-appeal/
Madeleine McCann ‘Trolls’ Pay For Amaral Court Appeal
The search for Madeleine McCann remains fruitless, but numerous members of the public — across the world — are publicly showing support for the former detective who notoriously accused her parents of covering up her death. Goncalo Amaral may have lost in court against the missing child’s parents, but more than 1,500 people have come forward to show support for the former cop by paying for his court appeal en masse. The Daily Star has referred to these charitable donors as “sick trolls,” but they’ve nonetheless raised more than the £25,000 needed for his court fees. That means Goncalo Amaral can continue the fight for his right to publish evidence and theories against Kate and Gerry McCann.
Among the 1,559 donors who contributed to the fund, it’s believed that officers with the Metropolitan Police Service also donated a large amount of money. Those presumed officers claimed that they were “outraged at the way in which a senior investigating officer has been treated” in relation to the Madeleine McCann case. The donation from the MPS may not have been what pushed the funds to the intended goal, but it certainly did help.
The fund was started by a 22-year-old Birmingham woman after news broke that Goncalo Amaral had been ordered to pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kate and Gerry McCann. CBS News CrimeSider reports that the McCanns won a libel payout after a long battle pertaining to Amaral’s published book Truth of the Lie, which pointed out all of the investigative evidence against the parents while theorizing and speculating that they may have accidentally killed Madeleine due to negligence before covering up her death. It only took about a month before donations from all over the world funded the entirety of Amaral’s appeal.
Madeleine McCann vanished over a decade ago from her parents’ vacation rental in Portugal. The then-3-year-old child was left alone with her two infant siblings while Kate and Gerry McCann partied with friends at a tapas bar when she disappeared. This detail has long since been a point of contention with members of the public who are split between feeling sympathy for the parents and feeling that they are responsible for at least being negligent with their children. There are also numerous members of the public who have read the available police files regarding the case and support Goncalo Amaral in his pursuit of answers for Maddie.
What do you think about this case? Do you think the people supporting Goncalo Amaral are “vile trolls” like the UK media reports, or are they fighting for justice for a missing child who has no voice?

Good bit of publicity for the fund.
But I find this use of the word 'troll' incredibly tedious lately . The meaning has evolved into what cry-baby pant wetters call you if you dare disagree with them.

sick trolls support Amara fundl
Jeanmonroe and fellow posters,
The best way to show our disgust is not to join in any jeering and do not let the MSM have any excuse to vilify people who disagree with their thesis as GM would say.
There will be coverage by MSM at some stage of the bike ride and I would ask any reporters what amount of funds are exempted from going to the Charity, as figures above £2200.00 per rider will go to the charities.
10 x 2200=£22,000 for costs of per participants
15 x 2200=£33,000 " " "
I wonder if they will divulge how much is raised excluding the proposed£2,200.00 per rider for hotels, bike repairs, etc

The use of the words "sick trolls" in the heading is unfortunate.
If they truly believe donation that claims to have come from MPS really came from MPS then that heading takes in bunch of police officers from MPS as "sick trolls".
I am not sure myself if the MPS donation needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, the papers mentioning it, as if it is already a proven fact must raise blood pressure in certain quarters, so that's the good that comes out of this "sick" heading.
All-in-all, not bad that the GoFundMe suddenly attracts all this coverage. At the very least the "Fund" gets promoted to the wider public. More people will now google about it.

It's a disgrace this sort of language is being used to describe charitable people. A troll in the modern internet definition means somebody who posts messages online which are malicious or intended purely to be disruptive. I suspect the vast majority who donated money have never even posted a message about Madeleine in their life. People who donate to this fund are no more trolls than the people who donated to the find Madeleine fund in 2007. It's like calling those who were awarded Jim'll Fix it badges paedophiles.

Yes the word 'troll' has been around for ages, and its funny how msm are just now picking up on this as their favorite new catchword since they doorstepped Brenda Leyland. It is so childish and they sound like kids in elementary school. I always thought a troll was some mythical creature that lived under a bridge, and i love those little troll dolls when we were kids. Anyway is Shrek kind of a troll, cause i love the Shrek moviesRichard D. Hall wrote:It's a disgrace this sort of language is being used to describe charitable people. But seriously, IMO msm by using the word troll to describe people generally are showing themselves up to be very silly, and good point you make about how many have never even commented about the case.
