'Portugal Resident' POLL - Do you agree that Goncalo Amaral should pay 500,000 euros damages to the McCanns?

It seems crazy to me that the McC's were awarded that much money, considering:
In Portugal for the loss of life or permanent disability the courts usually hand out sentences of tens of thousands, usually between 30,000 € and 50,000 €. Talking about death or permanent disability.
In case of libel, even involving high ranked politicians we have no memory of an amount bigger than 10,000 €.

So how on earth would the McC's be awarded that much? I think Portugal should be asking the judge in question "please explain".

I found one case where a child was sucked into the water outlet of a water park, and drowned.
The Park had to pay damages of € 300,000. For a DEATH by negligence and lack of maintenance and so on.
Half a mill for hurt feelings is ludicrous.
So ludicrous and the decisions given with so little justification, that one hopes it was one purely to stimulate a heated appeal.
