From a Mr Steven James

How much did the recent trip to Portugal by Met detectives for the Madeleine McCann case cost the UK taxpayer?

For the avoidance of doubt, I am referring specifically to the trip which returned on Wednesday 29th January as per the news article below:

REPLY: The cost of the flights was £1,500.

++++++++++++++++++++

From a Valerie Fulford:

I wish to know whether Kevin Halligen, currently in a London Jail for fraud has been interviewed by the SY Review team involved in
the Madeleine McCann Case.

The Madeleine fund supposedly paid Halligen £300,000 when he had no experience of tracing missing persons, Money Laundering and Fraud were his main expertise and it is inconceivable that the fund directors would not check out his credentials before parting with such a large amount, largely donated by myself and other donors. Mr Halligen is wanted by the Justice system for other offences, is he still in Jail in the U.K.?

REPLY: In accordance with the Act, this letter represents a Refusal Notice for this particular request under Section 17(1). Please see the legal annex for the sections of the Act that are referred to in this letter.

The MPS can neither confirm nor deny that it holds the information you requested as the duty in Section 1(1)(a) of the Act does not apply, by
virtue of the following exemptions:

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

In the news business, if you get the equivalent of a No Comment (as above), that's generally accepted as a Yes... wouldn't you say, TB?
