19 May Mail on Sunday: 'MADDIE: UK CLEANERS ARE SUSPECTS' + WHO SOOTHED A WEEPING MADDIE the Express
I think the McCanns and Mr Justice Tugendhat will allow me to post this news report: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Scotland Yard has identified a number of potential suspects who may have abducted Madeleine McCann, the force’s top detective revealed today. Investigators carrying out a review of the case have drawn up a list of people who they say are “of interest” to the inquiry. Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell, the head of Scotland Yard’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said there were a “good number” of individuals who should be questioned. Today he urged the Portuguese authorities to investigate the new leads identified by the British review. DCS Campbell, speaking on the eve of his retirement from the Met, said: “There are a lot of people of interest. There are people who could be properly explored further, if only to be eliminated.” He refused to give numbers but said there was “more than a handful” of names of “people of interest”. Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2007 as her parents Kate and Gerry McCann dined with friends near-by. The official Portuguese inquiry was shelved in 2008 but Scotland Yard launched a review of the case in 2011 after David Cameron responded to a plea from Madeleine’s parents. Last year the review team led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said it had identified 195 potential leads after examining a huge bundle of material. Today DCS Campbell said the 30-strong review squad had done a “fantastic” job in identifying “further investigative and forensic opportunities.” He said it was “perfectly probable” that information which could identify the suspect responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance was already within the Portuguese files. He added: “We have to ask ourselves why are cases unsolved and, on many occasions, we find we passed the suspects by already and the suspect sits within our system.” DCS Campbell said there were a “good number” of people who could be interviewed and eliminated to allow investigators to focus on a smaller group. Detectives from the Yard’s team have travelled to Portugal around 10 times to liaise with the authorities there and gather evidence in an inquiry which has cost more than £2 million. So far, Portugal’s attorney general has ruled out a new inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance but the comments from the senior Yard detective will raise hopes of a fresh investigation. DCS Campbell said: “The Portuguese hopefully will pursue some of these investigative opportunities with our assistance. There is room for further work and collaboration to resolve the case.” He re-iterated a claim that Madeleine could still be alive. He said: “You only have to look at the case in Cleveland, Ohio, and the European cases. Of course, there is a possibility she is alive, you cannot exclude it. But the key is to investigate the case and, alive or dead, we should be able to try and discern what happened.” He added: “The purpose of the review is to look at it with fresh eyes…there has been real benefit in doing it".

That's what I was hoping too when I read it. Also this bit:
He said it was “perfectly probable” that information which could identify the suspect responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance was already within the Portuguese files.

Actually, I meant Tapas 9.
Whether the McCanns like it or not, they haven't been eliminated as suspects by the Portuguese authorities. That's a fact.

This bit's wrong.Tony Bennett wrote:"Detectives from the Yard’s team have travelled to Portugal around 10 times to liaise with the authorities there and gather evidence in an inquiry which has cost more than £2 million".
In answer to a recent Freedom of Information Act question, Scotland Yard admitted that the Review had already cost £4.5 million and was costing nearly £70,000 a day.
That was a few weeks back.
It's probably cost £4.6 million by now.
You really can't trust everything you read in the papers

come on people, grasping at straws. It doesn't cost this much time and effort to review a case file, it cost this much to cover up!..

As the Greeks would say 'perimenoume' 'we wait'. This is only a press release (on the eve of an SY officer's retirement). Let's see what transpires. Whatever it is it won't be quick.

Even though I have followed this case since the beginning, I am totally bewildered by this rogues gallery of 'suspects'.
Please could someone who is knowledgable about the background to the suspect e-fits, link the pics to some info about each?

I don't think I would be celebrating if I were in the McCann camp. It is clear that SY are working closing with the PJ - ten trips to Portugal, and it is highly unlikely that the Portuguese will agree to any more wild goose chases. The retiring detective has not stated that anyone in the files has been ruled out, in fact several will need to be re-interviewed, if only to eliminate them from the enquiry so that they can focus on a smaller group. The fact that he has used the word 'group' is interesting, most of us are only aware of one 'group' and I would imagine that Hewitt and Murat, would have been referred to as 'individuals of interest'.

This would be THIS Hamish Campbell!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Hamish Campbell from the Met, was in charge of the disastrous investigation into the murder of Jill Dando.
Jill Dando was allegedly investigating claims of a vile paedophile ring linked to Jimmy Savile, the BBC and beyond.
Her high-profile death may have been a warning to other journalists to keep quiet.
Hamish Campbell IGNORED ALL OF THESE BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS CLUES, (seems liking he's BLINDINGLY IGNORING all the 'OBVIOUS' LIES in the T9 STATEMENTS TOO!) and did something stupid.
He arrested a vulnerable loner called Barry George.
Barry George was the victim of a media witch-hunt and was eventually imprisoned for eight years.
Barry George was released on appeal and cleared of the murder.
Was Hamish Campbell reprimanded for his stupidity?
Not at all.
Hamish Campbell has risen through police ranks.
Despite HIS MONUMENTAL COCK-UPS Hamish Campbell has now been place in charge of Operation Yewtree which is investigating child-abuse allegations relating to none other than Jimmy Savile, the BBC and beyond.
This beggars belief.
Is there something we should know about Hamish Campbell?
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Is it any wonder why some people think that more direct action is the possible way to go?
With the brilliant Hamish Campbell in charge NO 'vulnerable' SUSPECT is safe!
I wonder which Maddie 'ABDUCTOR' will Hamish fit up as CHIEF suspect?
Also it would appear that HC is calling the entire PJ 'totally dumb' for not finding these 'leads'
Add to that the entire Leicester police force!
I think all this is because May and Cameron are coming under pressure to explain about the 'unlimitless' resources for the McCanns, as Cameron PERSONALLY 'promised' them in the studios of ITV,(because it's HIS money, you understasnd!) who were named arguido/arguida in Madeleines 'disapperance', when people are dying from THEIR imposed bedroom tax!

Madeleine McCann: British police identify potential suspects and urge Portuguese cops to make arrests
British police investigating [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] have drawn up a list of potential suspects who may have abducted the schoolgirl.
They have identified a "good number" of people who should be quizzed by their colleagues in Portugal and have urged authorities to investigate the leads as a matter of urgency.
And the top cop working on the review case has revealed that it was "perfectly probable" that the suspect responsible for Maddy's disappearance could be identified from information which is already contained in the Portuguese files.
Portugal’s attorney general has ruled out a new inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance but the comments by the head of Scotland Yard’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command, Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell, has raised hopes of a fresh investigation.
Madeleine was nearly four when she disappeared from Praia da Luz in Portugal's Algarve on May 3, 2007.
The little girl was snatched from her holiday apartment as her parents dined at a tapas restaurant with friends nearby.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, DCS Campbell, said the review team had done a "fantastic" job in identifying "further investigative and forensic opportunities."
He said: "There are a lot of people of interest. There are people who could be properly explored further, if only to be eliminated."
He explained: "We have to ask ourselves why are cases unsolved and, on many occasions, we find we passed the suspects by already and the suspect sits within our system."
DCS Campbell still believes there is a possibility that Maddy is still alive and added: "The Portuguese hopefully will pursue some of these investigative opportunities with our assistance. There is room for further work and collaboration to resolve the case."

Perhaps he's been chosen - as he's retiring - to take the flak this time?
I'm reading this:
Today DCS Campbell said the 30-strong review squad had done a “fantastic” job in identifying “further investigative and forensic opportunities.”
He said it was “perfectly probable” that information which could identify the suspect responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance was already within the Portuguese files.
Detectives from the Yard’s team have travelled to Portugal around 10 times to liaise with the authorities there and gather evidence in an inquiry which has cost more than £2 million.
He re-iterated a claim that Madeleine could still be alive. He said: “You only have to look at the case in Cleveland, Ohio, and the European cases. Of course, there is a possibility she is alive, you cannot exclude it. But the key is to investigate the case and, alive or dead, we should be able to try and discern what happened.”
He added: “The purpose of the review is to look at it with fresh eyes…there has been real benefit in doing it".
Snipping away further window dressing:
he speaks in the past tense: 'has done a fantastic job'
he mentions the non parallel cases then diminishes the likelyhood: 'a possibility - cannot exclude it. But ... investigate (alive or dead) what happened.
he says again that there 'has been' benefit in doing it.
Then the 2 million inaccurate number added. I think hey're desperately trying to wind it down, hand it over to the Portuguese and it will be their fault if they don't re-open the case.

Forty years ago, Hamish Campbell joined the ranks of Scotland Yard as a fresh-faced, 16-year-old cadet.
It was the Seventies — the setting for popular TV police drama The Sweeney and, decades later, Life on Mars — and a senior officer recommended the young recruit as having the potential to be a “good and honest” policeman.
Detective Chief Superintendent Campbell retires today as head of the Yard’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command — London’s most senior murder squad detective.

"GOOD and HONEST"???????????
Tell THAT to Barry George!
WHY is/was London's MOST senior MURDER SQUAD defective (sic) reviewing a case of supposedly child abduction?
Still, he won't be there tomorrow, then perhaps we will get a PROPER, HONEST cop to expose the LIES of the T9 in their statements!

The press release is brilliant.
It says absolutely nothing of any value.
We shall have to wait, and wait, and wait
They are not going to name their suspects before their arrest, so we are unlikely to hear anything for a very long time.

Exactly who are we looking for?
It would be interesting to compare Scotland Yard's 'more than a handful' of suspects, 'persons of interest' and 'people we wish to eliminate from our enquiries' with the McCanns' current list.
This can be found of course on the current Home page of findmadeleine.com
According to the McCanns, they seem to be looking for FIVE individuals.
Look at thr right-hand side of the page and three sketches come up in sequence:
1. BUNDLEMAN (a) as drawn by Melissa Little and (b) as shown in the Channel 4 documentary, May 2009
2. SPOTTY MAN, and
3. AUSTRALIAN YOUNG WOMAN, said to be a Victoria Beckham-lookalike, as described by an anonymous British banker who had been drinking for several hours in downtown Barcelona bars and spoke to her at 2am and then agonised for two years before telling theNews of the World the police about what he had seen.
Then, below that, are links to five short audio clips. These are as follows:
Nos. 1 and 2 appear to be 'Spotty Man', as described by a teenage girl who claims she saw him on two separate days. Her description is:
1.8m tall
light skin
not Portuguese-looking
thin
aged 30-35
short hair
thin lips
wearing black jacket
wearing white T-shirt with a blue mark on it
wearing faded blue jeans
spotty
ugly
in fact disgusting
on the second day he had a pen with a clip in his jacket pocket
No. 3 seems to be someone different, described as
dark
'perhaps Portuguese'
dark hair
wearing yellow T-shirt
5' 6" or 5' 7"
No. 4 is clearly JANE TANNER derscribing how she saw BUNDLEMAN.
She saw him 10-15 feet away (about the width of a typical room in a British house). He was
aged 35-40
thin
5' 10"
dark skin, not English-looking
dark, shiny, messy, long hair down to the shoulders
scruffy
not like a typical tourist
bomber-style jacket but not thick
yellow trousers
black shoes that looked 'fairly standard'
Audio tape No. 5 is clearly the man claimed to have been seen by Martin Smith from Ireland.
He describes the man as
'didn't look like a tourist'
white
1.75m to 1.8m
aged 34-35
slim
short brown hair
wearing beige trousers.
I wonder if the McCann Team and Scotland Yard Team will clarify for us all whether we are still supposed to be looking for all these 5 individuals.
If Scotland Yard know who these individuals are, why do they not issue descriptions now so that we can identify them? Why wait for the Portuguese Police to respond?.
Why does the McCann website give some heights in feet and inches, and others in metres? Isn't that confusing? Why don't they give out the height in both units of measuement, for clarity?

I'm lost - is this actually a real interesting development or is it just carefully timed spin from TM?
Since Mark Williams-Thomas seems to be the go-to TV guy for horrible crimes I wonder what would happen if (purely hypothetically because anything is possible) the McCanns were to be arrested and even charged? Would he get himself a nice little half hour documentary with him revealing his previous support of the abduction thesis was purely to lure them?

Would he get himself a nice little half hour documentary with him revealing his previous support of the abduction thesis was purely to lure them?

Errr... haven't SY been going through the files for the last 2 years, what is this comment supposed to mean...

He said it was “perfectly probable” that information which could identify the suspect responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance was already within the Portuguese files.

I think we should get the HONEST, PROPER COP in from Derbyshire that got, in his words, JUSTICE for the Phillpot kids by exposing their B*****D PARENTS as the ones that killed them!
Not a pratt that has 'special' contact with McCanns 'spokesman'!
ETA
Maybe this is what R Murats 'bring them all back' recently was all about!
And KM 'visit' to PDL to maybe 'have a word' in his shell like!
What cop in the world would 'tip the wink' to a possible 'suspect/s' by going public in a newspaper?
Anyone who remotely thought they were a suspect, will NOT be where they were, when they read that 'news'
Northern Cyprus gonna be busy! lol.

Why ever not, PeterMac?PeterMac wrote:They are not going to name their suspects before their arrest, so we are unlikely to hear anything for a very long time.
We are told that these are 'persons of interest' and 'people we wish to eliminate from our enquiries'.
A three-year-old missing British girl has been missing for over six years.
Why should we wait a moment longer to be given as full a description as possible of each of these 'more than a handful' of suspects, so that we can locate them and tell the police where they are?
TWO OTHER POINTS.
Since what date exactly did the Metropoiitan Police decide not to put out a public statement by media release to all and sundry, but instead release the information exclusively to the London Evening Standard?
Also, is 'more than a handful' a new description we can all now use?
Does it come somewhere between 'a few' and 'several'?
Or is it more than 'several'?
e.g. as in: How many pints have you had? 'More than a handful'
How many times have you been to Spain for your holidays? 'More than a handful'
How many suits have you got? 'More than a handful'

What?!*%!*!&??? You mean that all that stuff they seized from the offices of Metodo 3 and from Kevin Halligen was totally useless??????candyfloss wrote:Errr... haven't SY been going through the files for the last 2 years, what is this comment supposed to mean...He said it was “perfectly probable” that information which could identify the suspect responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance was already within the Portuguese files.

I see the Sky News article mentions that the parents were totally cleared and found to have no link to Maddie's disappearance. Strange, I thought the particular wording was more along the lines of there not being enough evidence?
Obviously this has been prompted and probably generated from TM. What's interesting is the clear, single filter that exposes it to be balderdash.
If there was ANY belief that Maddie was still alive wouldn't there be a tad more urgency than public announcements of having more than a handful of suspects? Furthermore, if they believed she was still alive wouldn't they just get on and investigate rather than alert the perps and give them time to go underground?

Sky's Mark White has just said that they contacted Clarence Mitchell on behalf of McCanns and he said.....

Strange you would think he would have said they were very pleased about this latest news.

martinbrunt @skymartinbrunt [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Scot Yard says it has identified "more than a handful" of suspects for murder of Madeleine McCann in its review of Portuguese case
murder? He's obviously made a mistake
