THE Irish mother of missing Ellie Silva will embark on a round of TV interviews in a bid to highlight the case of her daughter.

Candice Gannon has not seen her child Ellie in more than five months and is still no closer to finding out her location.

Ellie (8) was last seen in Dublin Airport in July when her mum waved her off on a holiday with her father to the Algarve.

Candice's former partner Filipe de Silva (35) failed to return the child at the agreed time.

Police in Faro, Portugal, who are also investigating the Madeleine McCann case, have been tasked with looking for the missing girl.

Worry

Candice's husband, Dublin businessman Philip Gannon, said that the family have been going out of their minds with worry.

They were home in Ireland with their two-year-old daughter Olivia over Christmas and have pledged to go back to Portugal to ramp up the search.

"Unfortunately, there have been no new developments recently," Mr Gannon told the Herald.

"Ellie has been missing without trace for over five months now.

"We are submitting a petition to the Portuguese Embassy in London this week and Candice (28) will be on some morning TV shows in London to help raise awareness," he added.

Mr Gannon said that they have appealed to the police in Faro to step up the search as Ellie has been completely prevented from having any contact with her mother, family, friends or school.

"The police have been ordered by the civil courts to look for Ellie but the criminal courts still need to order the police to look for her father," he said.

Ellie was living in Madeira with her mother, stepfather and Olivia, after Ms Gannon won full custody in 2010, following a prolonged court battle.

The family's biggest fear is that Mr de Silva has taken their daughter to Brazil, where he has business interests. Ellie has a British passport because her mother was born in the UK.

Trace

Faro police were ordered to look for Ellie on September 13 last but Portuguese police have not issued a warrant for Mr de Silva's arrest for child abduction. The Faro police did not respond to queries from the Herald at the time of going to print.

The court also ordered that Ellie's details should be inserted into the Schengen Information System to help trace her whereabouts.

Mr Gannon said that Mr de Silva's friends and family have all told police that they have not seen him or Ellie since September.

Ms Gannon hopes that through raising awareness, someone will eventually help to reunite her with her daughter.

DETECTIVES have been given a photo which appears to show Madeleine McCann with an abductor.
The Sunday Express was passed the picture independently but Scotland Yard appealed to us not to publish it while it continues sensitive global investigations into the missing girl.
Officers were happy for us to describe the potentially key evidence which shows a healthy fair-haired girl aged three or four in pink trousers, a green top and a blue hat.
The child is walking along a road, possibly near a port or airport as there are many people with suitcases in the area. It is sunny with a palm tree in the background.
This is a matter for Scotland Yard and I am sure they will get to the bottom of it. Kate and Gerry have confidence in Operation Grange.

The photograph was allegedly taken in Brazil in June 2007, a month after Madeleine, three, was snatched from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on Portugal’s Algarve coast.
The girl is holding the hand of a swarthy foreign-looking man aged about 50 with long dark hair and a beard. He is wearing cut-off jeans and a green T-shirt.
Nearby, another man in checked shorts and a black T-shirt is pulling a red suitcase. There is no sign of a woman and the child looks out of place with the older men.
If the picture is genuine, it would be the biggest breakthrough in the case to date.
A Portuguese speaking man living in Brazil forwarded the photo to a detective on Operation Grange, the Yard squad trying to find Madeleine by reviewing thousands of documents.
The man suggests paedophile Raymond Hewlett, who died of throat cancer, aged 64, in Germany in 2010, was involved with others in the abduction.
Hewlett was staying on a Portuguese camp site when Madeleine was taken. In a deathbed letter to his estranged son Wayne he claimed to know what happened to her.
The man in Brazil has also sent the Yard a picture of a market scene, apparently shot in Portugal, purportedly showing Hewlett standing near a white van used in the abduction.
Hewlett denied taking Madeleine but later mysteriously said she had been “stolen to order” by gipsies. In an e-mail to the Yard, the man writes in Portuguese: “The London police holds in its hands the real opportunity to rescue Madeleine. I know how.”
He wants to be flown to London to give officers the “entire route taken by the bandits”.
The man says he is not a policeman, is not seeking money nor fame and wants to remain anonymous. He adds: “I am sending you more photos of the bandits taking Madeleine McCann and running from the police.
“Unfortunately, we have to break the normal investigation rules, only for this specific case. Your presence, together with me, and also your investigators, we will rebuild the bandits’ entire action.”
Giving his phone number and address he provides details of a flight from Ibiza to Munich in which one witness saw a girl looking like Madeleine “with the bandits”. Scotland Yard and the McCann investigators are used to dealing with letters from cranks, but are taking this more seriously because of the photographs provided.
We can also reveal the man has been in contact with Isabel Duarte, Kate and Gerry McCann’s civil lawyer in Lisbon.
Mrs Duarte told the Sunday Express: “It is an interesting picture but you cannot say it is Madeleine.
“I communicated with him by e-mail because I wanted to know where the picture was taken and who took it and who the men are.
“He was not prepared to tell me but said he would talk to the police. I don’t know exactly what this guy wants but it needs to be checked out. It is a matter for the police to look into.”
Last week she sent all details of her correspondence with the man to Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry in Leicestershire.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “An image has been passed to us and it is being assessed.”
The Yard may send the picture to FBI imaging experts in America for an opinion.
This week the Yard is expected to ask detectives in Brazil to interview the man before considering whether to fly him to London. Officers want to know what he knows about Hewlett, who was jailed for abduction, attempted rape and assault of girls aged six, nine and 14.
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCanns, said: “This is a matter for Scotland Yard and I am sure they will get to the bottom of it. Kate and Gerry have confidence in Operation Grange.”
Operation Grange was launched in May 2011 at the request of Home Secretary Theresa May.

Once again, a very lukewarm response from Team McCann. Will we ever hear them say that a potential sighting is "exciting", "hopeful", "encouraging" or anything which indicates they believe it can be real?

It is also SO predictable in it's timing, haven't we all known that a sighting would occur in the week or so before the court case? I do hope that Operation Grange is taking note that sightings ONLY emerge as naff PR stunts when something is occurring to challenge the official story?

Well, that;s it then.

All of us who thought there was no abduction have been proved wrong. (I'm assuming that the Express would never print anything like this just to sell papers, would they?)

And it must be Amaral who has caved in before the trial when faced with this evidence. (Well, he would have to, wouldn't he?)

But we never knew about Hewlett standing in front of his white van did we? (Nor did we know he was convicted of offences against girls as young as six. I'm assuming the Express knows he was convicted and not just questioned as a suspect. After all, it's been known for totally innocent people to be questioned as suspects, hasn't it?).

And it was such a shock to me when I read that a swarthy, foreign looking man was involved. (Presumably, he is foreign looking to the eyes of an Express reporter. If anyone is foreign-looking in Brazil, it would be someone like Madeleine).

Nor did we ever think that anyone would actually be able to photograph Madeleine McCann.Presumably the photo's of a high enough resolution to show her eye coloboma fleck when the FBI are able to look at it with all their super-duper equipmentt. (Just as well that the photos of Madeleine haven't been photoshopped so that this picture can be compared with the pictures of Madeleine released by the family, isn't it?)

Such a shame that the anonymous man has taken so long to come forward but at least he's done so before the Amaral trial. What a waste of time that trial would have been,

It seems odd that Correia does a bunk to Brazil then suddenly the case against Goncalo Amaral is suspended whilst they try to reach a settlement, then we get yet another timely sighting of Madeleine.

What scared Marco away? Does Mr Amaral hold an Ace too many?

This doesn't fit with the information supplied by a dying Raymond Hewlett in a hospital bed in Aachen in Germany, who managed as he was dying to write a long letter to his estranged son (Wayne Hewlett, a builder, in Telford, Shropshire) who had disowned hom 20 years previoulsy, giving him details of how one long summer evening in Portugal, they were sitting around a gypsy camp fire, drinking of course, when a gypsy gang leader let slip that, actually, he'd organised the abduction of Madeleine McCann between around 9.11pm and 9.14pm on Thursday 3 May, and then supplied her to a wealthy North African family for money, this information then being conveyed by a 'mystery man' who it seems travelled from Germany to bring him this letter, whereupon Wayne duly read it, was troubled by it, burnt it, and, having burnt it and thought about it, decided to inform either the McCann Team, or the Sun, or both, whereupon the Sun mounted a major 'Exclusive' on the matter in their edition of 1 September 2010, telling their 6-million-plus readers all about this 'breakthrough'.

One thing is absolutely certain, though.

I have the greatest possible confidence that Det Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, head of the Scotland Yard Review Team, and his team of 37 detectives and support staff, will be able to use their combined intellect, experience and wisdom to carefully analyse whether the 'Madeleine stolen by gypsies' is 'a strong lead', or 'Maddie seen walking along a road in Brazil on June 2007' is a strong lead.

Or whether both stories are, in truth, utter balderdash which should never have seen the light of day in a British mainstream newspaper.



P.S. Marcos Aragao Correia was in the pay of the McCann Team, as he admitted himself. He met with Metodo 3 at the Arade Dam on 10 December 2007 to plan the two searches for Madeleine's bones in January and March 2008 - and on 8 April 2008, with the agreement of the governor of Odemira Prison, he met in that prison with Leonor Cipriano, the murderees of her own 8-year-old daughter Joana, and agreed to represent her in her claim that she'd been tortured and beaten into making a false confession by Goncalo Amaral and four detecrives.

He couldn't still be in the pay of 'The Team'.

This is a story in a newspaper. It is there to sell newspapers. The facts have probably been totally distorted as have the quotes made by people involved.

I'm sure we all realise that about all you can believe in newspapers is the date at the top - and even with that, you might need a second opinion!

Of course we know that this is a load of twaddle. It's just another illustration of how stupid the media thinks its readers are.

My guess is that he knows more than he has told.
Any good detective does that.
Very often the "final fact" is not even revealed in the court case, if it is not needed.
You hold it back in case the defence try something.

But we all know that policemen make mistakes. Look at Colin Stagg.

Enough evidence to arrest, charge and take the man to court. The police involved were convinced he was guilty even after the case was thrown out. But, he was innocent.

So, SY have asked for this picture not to be published, yet they have been up and running for nearly 2 years, and how many pictures and sightings have been published in that time? Why didn't the stop those??

ed1976, you may have missed the point that these stories, however improbable, have a collective influence on the consciousness of a great many people.

Has not public perception been right at the very core of this case?

Anyone else wonders why the spotter in Brazil would hand the photo to Isabel Duarte instead of handing it to the local Police?

How did he know about ID and where to find her? Apparently they exchanged email according to ID, so how did he get hold of her email addy?

If he knows about missing Madeleine surely he must know the Mccanns run a high-maintenance website listed as open 24/7, so why didn't he ring this hotline? Why ID? ID is lawyer, not Police, not Madeleine's parents, or even METS?

Mad-marcos is such an amateur when it comes to covering his track.

All the tell tale signs are there - Marcos in Brazil, ID in Portugal, Pinky -source of the story, and lastly the SY was involved. It's a such time consuming bloody long chain communication to get the SY involved while the swarthy foreigner is roaming freely towing Maddie.

I wonder what SY made of all these pseudo-sightings when they are the last to be informed, and despite their caution to the Press not to print the photo it was published, and they OKed for the story to be printed. Apparently they did not caution the Mccanns not to spin this but to leave it to the Police.

What is happening?

Well, at least it hasn't been burnt like the Hewlett letter. I bet it isn't a perfectly clear picture of Madeleine though, it will probably be just as fuzzy as some of the others we have seen, or it was taken at a distance and the child is just a dot on the picture.
