Looks like The Sun encourages these non Maddie sightings.

Why every Maddie sighting is crucial
As missing girl is 'spotted' in Ibiza we
explore why they must ALL be considered

LAST week it happened again – another possible sighting of missing Madeleine McCann and a new flicker of hope.
There have been hundreds of them since the little girl went missing more than five years ago.
This time, as The Sun revealed on Friday it was a German businessman convinced he spotted her with a German family on a holiday jet from Ibiza to Munich.
Tourist Frank Bode took a blurry snap of the youngster aboard the resort’s airport transit bus. He claims that the girl was British and did not seem to fit with the family.
He immediately contacted “Find Madeleine” investigators in the UK and Scotland Yard cops are now following up his claims. While inquiries are still underway with this latest possible sighting, so far all the other “maybes” have ended with a crushing wave of fresh pain for parents Kate and Gerry McCann as their hopes are dashed once more.
It may seem a cruel ordeal, but her parents and the police know that no possible sighting — however seemingly bizarre — can be dismissed.
In fact, according to former Met detective Ian Horrocks who served in the kidnap and ransom squad, the longer Madeleine has been missing, the MORE likely it is that sightings are made.
He said: “It has previously been said, ‘Who is going to openly walk out with the world’s most wanted child?’
“This was clearly relevant in the days, weeks and months following her abduction but, as time has gone by, whoever took Madeleine is likely to be more confident about taking her out in public.”
He added: “The reality is that none can be totally ignored, and all need to be considered.
“Anyone who genuinely believes they have seen Madeleine should immediately contact police.”
Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday apartment in Portugal in May 2007, just days before her fourth birthday. She would now be nine-years-old.
So far possible sightings have stretched as far and wide as Spain, Britain, India, New Zealand and Australia. And the way the McCanns deal with each one has become a well-rehearsed routine.
They are given all available details of the sighting, and if a photo has been taken they are sent a copy.
It is all part of the Met’s review of the case, which has so far cost £2.5million.
Met Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe has just asked the Government for more cash to keep the search, including the probe of possible sightings, underway.
He said: “We are still reviewing a lot of material.”
Meanwhile Kate McCann, 44, of Rothley, Leics, says it does not matter how many years go by — she will always recognise her beloved eldest child.
She once told me: “I know I would, I just know that if she came in here now I would know it was her.”

And yet they DO appear to dismiss every sighting. Even when asked in a televised interview about sightings we have seen Gerry give Kate that odd smirk, and Kate herself could not recall a single sighting that gave her "hope". Not even the sighting that resulted in a drink bottle being DNA tested. And if we recall from the very early days, she was exceedingly p**sed off when the police were driving too fast to view CCTV footage of a possible sighting. In fact a sighting is the thing that seems to interest them least of all.

Fascinating stuff.
Lazerelli going soft ?
Let us just spell it out so that she and TM and CM, and C-R, and all the rest understand.
Every "sighting" reported is the clearest possible proof that the search for Madeleine Beth McCann goes on, and has in no way been prevented or diminished, not even by one jot or iota, by the publication of Dr Amaral's book.
Which means that the basis for their action against him in Portugal falls at the first hurdle.
Second, the comments which accompany each report of these 'sightings', even those which the press allow, make it abundantly clear that the thinking public simply do not believe the original story.
So they have fallen at the first fence, and then had themselves humanely destroyed !

Agreed, and if you WERE really searching for your lost daughter you'd pounce on each and every possible sighting in the hope that it would, at last, be your child. The lack of interest shown over the sightings by Team Mc speaks volumes. It's conclusive in it's own way.

Hi Dawnie
to the forum
Antonella Lazzerri is not exactly known for accurate reporting, in fact many of her articles are bizarre and beyond belief. I am sure though, that she sells a modest amount of papers with her tales of Madeleine.
If no possible sighting should be ignored, why then, when Madeleine was allegedly spotted in Belgium, and we all awaited the results of a DNA test taking from a glass or cup, did Kate and Gerry hot foot it to Huelva Spain?
And of course, as Maebee says, the dogs evidence is meaningless

Seems the 'every sighting is crucial' storyline idea originally stems from the Olive Press...Yet again!! (27th August). Nice little set up going on for Jon Clarke since he became Publisher/Editor 'sometime' in 2007
http://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2012/08/27/false-maddie-trails/
MORE than five years after Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, the media spotlight remains firmly on the little girl’s fate.
Despite continued speculation about her whereabouts and a consistent stream of potential sightings, the trail remains cold.
With each story that appears, hope is temporarily revived only for it to seemingly be dashed again, but the media has a duty to keep these cases in the public domain.
However unlikely or tenuous the link may be, there remains the possibility that one piece of evidence could become a vital piece in the jigsaw.
The danger is that the story becomes a case of the boy who cried wolf, and that when a genuine sighting emerges, no one takes it seriously.
Either way, the real tragedy of the case is that there are thousands of other missing children around the world who do not have the benefit of worldwide media interest in their fate.

Re: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/4516642/Why-every-Madeleine-McCann-sighting-is-crucial-and-cant-be-ignored.html
Let's analyse the logic of this. A man sees a girl and “My intuition told me that the girl, who was around seven to 10 years old, could be Madeleine” He takes a completely useless picture of her, and then rather than passing on his suspicions to airline staff, passport control or any officials at the airport he goes home. [color=red]Even then Instead of reporting this to police instead he contacts "“Find Madeleine” investigators in the UK", although it would be a simple task for German police to check the plane's manifest, identify the family in question and determine the validity of the claim. That would take the police what, two hours? Perhaps four hours to actually send officers round to the family's home. So they would know that same day if this was Madeleine or was just another baseless 'sighting'.
What role would the 'Find Madeleine investigators' have to do with this procedure? Even if Bode had contacted them first, surely they would have either told him to contact the police or taken the details and reported it to the German police immediately themselves, as they are the only people able to quickly and definitively resolve it. So if this was genuine, it would have been all done and dusted on the same day.
Yet the next day, the Sun reports this as an ongoing investigation, further hope etc. The only way it could be ongoing is if it had not been reported to the German authorities, and if it had not been reported to the German authorities how serious an investigation was it really?
Predictably, the Olive Press, having been put in contact with Bode by someone recycles the story. By the time they go to press the resolution i.e. dismissal of the claim would be days old but then surely no-one takes that silly paper seriously on this issue any more.
It only takes a modicum of critical thinking to see through this fabricated rubbish.
